Heritabilities and genetic correlations were estimated by Henderson`s method 3 on the basis of the data from 867 heads of Korean native cattle tested at Korea Native Cattle Improvement Center. The traits for estimation of genetic parameters were body weights at birth, weaning, yearling. and 18-month of age, and chest girth at yearling age. The heritability estimates were 0.12±0.08 at birth weight, 0.31±0.17 at weaning weight. 0.11±0.08 at gain after weaning, and 0.19±0.07 at yearling weight. The genetic correlation between birth weight and gain after weaning was negatively estimated(-0.60), but that between gain after weaning and yearling weight was positively estimated(0.66).

This study was carried out to seek the effects of environmental factors and properties of growth as being based on genetic evaluation of Korean native cattle. Analytic data were collected from 973 heads of male calves tested at Korea Native Cattle Improvement Centre from 1985 to 1988. Body weight at birth, weaning. yearling, and gain from weaning to yearling were affected highly(99.99%) by testing year-season and location at birth but the effects of parity was a little significant for growth traits. As data of chest girth at yearling showed highly skewed distribitions. it might be requested for transformation of data for genetic evaluation.

For the evaluation of breeding values of animals, A trial to get solutions from the Iterative(SUR: Successive underrelaxation method) and the G-inverse was carried out using a sire model with 76 levels of 7 independent factors in this study. The results showed no differences between the solutions from directive(G-inverse) method and that from iterative method. For the four(0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.35) different relaxation factors(W) to speed up the convergence to the final solution, even though the number of rounds of interaction was affected, there were no differences in the final solutions. The numbers of rounds of iteration t get final solutions from a restriction({ b₁^n+1 - b₁} $lt;0.0001) under for the 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 035 relaxation factors were 1729. 928, 649 and 563 rounds respectively. It is the good iteration parameter(w) whether the convergence is speeded up or not. Since Iterative method is very simple to be programized and needs relatively small computer memory, it could be useful for solving large and complex equations in animal evaluation.

This study was conducted to estimate heritabilities and genetic correlations on body weight and body measurements obtained from 4193 records of cows after 500 days of age in Korean native cattle(hanwoo). Results obtained were summarized as follows ; 1. Heritabilities and standard errors of body weight, chest width and chest girth were 0.35±0.084, 0.20± 0.053 and 0.24±0.062 respectively, and the estimates were higher values than those of other traits(wither height, rump height etc.). 2. Genetic correlation coefficient was estimated 0.96 between body weight and chest girth, 0.94 between body weight and rump width, 0.97 between wither height and rump height and 0.94 between body length and rump width. 3. For improving hanwoo as beef cattle, improvement for rump width as standing for developing latter part might be concurrent improvement for body length and body weight.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the performances of the body weights and the 11 body measurements of Hanwoo raised between 1987 and 1989 in farms and Hanwoo progeny test center. The body weights at birth, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months of age were 22.49kg, 148.18kg, 223.48kg, 267.76kg, and 291.77kg respectively. The body measurements were increased rapidly up to about 6 months of along with the body weight. Feeding managements and the nursing capacity of dam were considered important. factors to develop the body size of a calf early growing stage. As compared with the previous reports, for the body weights at 6 and 12 months of age and the measurements for body length, chest girth, and shank circumference at 6, 12 and 18 months of age were somewhat increased. This might be come from the improved feeding managements and the change of growth type by selection. The hipbones width(pinbones width), which had not been reported, at birth, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months of age were 8.96cm, 19.09cm, 19.26cm, 21.04cm, and 22.19cm respectively. The body measurements of 11 traits of male calves at 7 months of age shown to be similar to those of female calves at 12 months of age.

These studies was carried out to clarify the genetic relationships of Korean Native Cattle by blood protein polymorphisms. Heterozygosity, genetic identity and genetic distance among five regional groups of Korean Native Cattle were estimated and dendrograms were constructed by principal component analysis and cluster analysis. The genetic differences among regional groups of Korean Native Cattle were not significant but Korean Native Cattle could be classificated in two groups of Seosan-Jeonla-Chungchoung and Kangwon-Kyoungsang by dendrogram. It was found, by dendrogram using data of other reports, that the genetic influence of Indian breed on Korean Native Cattle was slight.
