N/A 1) Small bowel transit time of lactulose in 10 healt!y subjects averaged 73+-29 minutes (range 40-120). 2) In 7 patients with suspected contaminated small bowel syndrome, vi ho showed fat malabsorption and ileal stricture due to intestinal tuberculosis, 6 subjects produced H2 originating from contaminated small bowel loop. 2) In 3 subtotal-gastrectomised patient- with suspet 3 contaminated small bowel syndrome, one suhject showed small bowe H2 peacks. These results suggest that. Lactulose breath hydrogen test is a relatively simple method for screening small intetinal colonization.

A case of autoimmune chronic active hepatitis was diagnosed in a 28 years old female. She came to the hospital because of proximal muscle weakness, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, cold intolerance, psychomotor retardation, jaundice and hepatomegaly. Liver biopsy showed chronic active hepatitis without evidence of viral infection nor injury by hepatotoxin. Other laboratory work-up showed polymyositis, renal tubular acidosis, and autoimrnune thyroidtis with antinuclear antibody, RA factor, and antimicrosomal antibody. we report this case as a autoimmune chronic active hepatitis accompanied by autoimmune thyroiditis, renal tubular acidosis and polymyositis, with a literature review.

To identify the effect of the gastric acid on brush border membrane-bound enzyme on duodenal mucosa, sucrase and alkaline phosphatase activity were assayed in the duodenal bulb and 2nd portion of the duodenum. The results were as follows: 1) alkaline phosphatase activities of duodenal mucosa were not changed according to the stage of duodenal ulcer. 2) sucrase activities of duodenal mucosa in active stage of duodenal ulcer were decreased comparing with those of normal subject, which returned to normal level in scarring stage.
