In this paper, we propose a novel localization method that utilizes the gated recurrent unit (GRU) and ultra-wideband (UWB) signals. To this end, a UWB transmitter (Tx) and multiple UWB receivers (Rxs) are considered in a confined space. The input signals to the proposed GRU model are generated from the received UWB signals, and the GUR provides the location of the UWB Tx as an output. The generation complexity of the input data is low. Furthermore, the localization performance, i.e., a root-mean-squared error (RMSE), is improved compared to the conventional methods. For example, the proposed GRU-based localization method can achieve a lower RMSE up to 0.8 meters compared to the existing convolutional neural newtork-based method.
