This paper examines the transitianal spaces design for office buildings at C.B.D. in the urban fringe of Korea. This study lays its purpose to analyze the role of transitional space in the aspect of urban environment, and to propose a possibilith considering its limitation involved originally. Also a proceeding direction of transitional space is explored. The results of the study are summarized as follows : 1. Transitional factors of the external part of building are almost eliminated in the stage of planning. So, a plan to unify materials and pattern for floor paving should be considered in the level of urban plan in order to give uniformity of street. 2. While the number of stair becomes less to make accessibility more easier(the type to lessen change of stair level), slope for the handicapped in not considered. Function to give cubic effect and to prevent flow of outside environments as an original purpose of turnstile have been lost. So more careful pre-examination should be executed. 3. To maximize a rental space, the concept of lobby becomes less, and just hall remains. Even of there is a lobby, mostly it remains empty, and no more roles as exhibition, rest, waiting and meeting. In order to use lobby with various functions, more detailed preparations should be made in the beginning stage of planning.
