In this study, a fan coil unit with an oval-type heat exchanger has been developed. By comparing with the previous fan coil unit with a circular-type heat exchanger, the performance of the present fan coil unit has been investigated. For the fan coil unit with the circular- and oval-type heat exchangers, the heat flux and pressure loss through the heat exchangers were measured at standard operating conditions. In addition, the wind speeds exhausted from the fan coil units were compared for the same fan motor operation. The experimental results show that the average wind speed of the oval-type heat exchanger is 20 percent higher than the circular-type heat exchanger. The performance of heat flux and pressure loss in the oval-type heat exchanger is enhanced 40% or more than the circular-type heat exchanger.

By using the microcellular foamed polymer, the manufacturing cost is decreased cause of its micro void fractions. Also, the reduction of mechanical property is smaller than conventional polymer foaming process. Refer to the previous research, the cell morphology of microcellular foamed polymer is showing the new properties (reflection, thermal insulation, permittivity and etc…). This study is to know the cell morphology of microcellular foamed polymer by using external force. To know the different of applied the external force for polymer crystallinity, we used the XRD. Also, to view the cell morphology, we used the SEM.

In this study, the optimum operating condition has been investigated in a fan-coil unit with an oval-type heat exchanger. Pressure drop and non-dimensionalized heat transfer characteristics were measured under heating condition for various water flow rates and wind speeds. As a result, heat flux increases with the flow rate and wind speed. However, the Colburn j-factor as a non-dimensionalized index decreases with the wind speed, and has an maximum when the wind speed is about 1 m/s in this study.
