DME (Dimethyl ether) is a multi-source, multi-purpose, clean and environmentally friendly form of energy. It also has potential to complement LPG since their physical properties are similar. Therefore, DME is able to contribute to LPG supply and energy diversification. It can be used as a diversion to LPG import prices and provide one solution to the issue of LPG supply. DME fuel has been investigated for diesel engine, as cetane number of DME is almost same as diesel. While DME’s physical properties are similar to LPG, DME has a lower calorific value than LPG, and therefore cannot be used in Autogas engine equipment that are rated for LPG. This paper will explain LPi engine performance characteristics and exhaust emissions using DME-LPG blends fuel and, discuss about optimum blending ratio of DME-LPG blends fuel.
