The purpose of this study is to analyze spray hole parameters, especially spray hole diameter and spray hole length. These spray hole parameters are very important factor for spray preparation. Because GDI Engine is a direct injection system differently Port Fuel Injection. The Combustion physics can be changed according to the spray preparation in direct injection engine. So the study of spray hole parameter is essential to the development of a GDI engine and performance improvements. In order to analyze spray characteristics, Spray visualization system and PDPA system (Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) was set up. Spray behavior Characteristic was analyzed using spray penetration length and spray atomization characteristic is studied using SMD value. Also, experiment was conducted using 1 hole and 6 hole GDI injector.

Gasoline engine has been developed from PFI engine to GDI engine because global needs and exhaust regulations. GDI engine is well known for higher performance and combustion efficiency compared to PFI engine. However, the direction injection engine has emission problem like a PM, PN. Also, GDI engine must be reduced because of the enhanced emission control. In order to reduce the PM emission, GDI engine has more higher injection pressure from 100bar to 200bar. Because Higher injection pressure cause to lower SMD and good mixture formation. However, cylinder wall wetting is higher due to the longer spray penetration. Therefore, The purpose of this study is to optimize nozzle hole parameter, especially hole length. Spray penetration is proportional to hole length due to the spray momentum. But spray velocity of long nozzle is faster decrease than due to small SMD
