        면담과 교과서 분석을 바탕으로 한 핀란드 영어교육의 시사점

        The purpose of this study was to explore what Finnish English education implies for the development of English education in Korea. For data collection, this study performed oral interviews with three professionals involved in public English education or service. Furthermore, this study analyzed third-grade English textbooks widely employed in Finland, and compared them with a third-grade English textbook widely used in Korea. The interviews revealed several implications as follows: 1) the necessity of increasing exposure to authentic language resources such as TV, ICT materials, and books, 2) the expansion of teachers’ autonomy in curriculum development and class management, and 3) task-based language activities outside the classroom. Meanwhile, data from the textbook analysis and comparison suggested some implications for Korean English textbook development as follows: 1) integrating spoken and written language from the beginning of English teaching, 2) teaching simple grammar to help learners understand English text, and 3) presenting a variety of authentic expressions such as idiomatic expressions and children’s phrases. Along with the implications from this study, future research ideas on the topic were suggested at the end.
