Water spray characterization of a multi-hole water injector is investigated by numerical simulation. Two points of spray characteristics validate spray simulation using CFD. The first validation method is geometrical evaluation involving spray penetration and angles. The second one is conducted concerning heat and mass transfer of water spray, especially for evaporation process of water and resultant cooling effect on air flow. The primary purposes of this study are the development of relevant simulation model and evaluation of the effect of water injection. The ANSYS CFX Software is used to simulate the water spray and gas exchange process of the engine. The 8-hole water injector is applied to water injection, and the spray simulation model for the water injection is developed and calibrated by experimental results.
디젤 엔진에서 목질계 열분해 연료의 적용 가능성에 관한 연구

Many research groups carry out a study for engines using bio-oil produced by biomass. Fast pyrolysis oil produced from wood is acidic and highly viscous. In addition, it contains large amount of water and char than conventional fuel. This research is conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using reformed bio-oil to diesel engine. For the experiments, IDI diesel engine was used. The engine equip in-line fuel-injection pump, throttling-pintle nozzle and premixed chamber. The results of performance and emissions of neat diesel, biodiesel, and two emulsified bio-oils were determined and compared. The results show that the two emulsified bio-oils deteriorate the fuel consumption compared to diesel and bio-diesel, while emissions of NOx and soot are reduced. However the problem that the bio-oil deteriorate the fuel pump and injectors due to char included in bio-oil need to be improved and researched.
