This paper shows behaviors of macro- and micro-structures and mechanical properties for specimen's welding region welded by F.S.W according to welding conditions with 5mm, aluminum 5083O alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone in case traveling speed was changed to 32mm/min under conditions of tool rotation speed such as 800 and 1250rpm with tool's pin and shoulder diameter 5φmm and 20φmm, pin length 4.5mm and tilting angle 2º. The ultimate stress,σT=330.37MPa and the yield point, 147.25MPa are obtained at the condition of 32mm/min of travel speed with 800rpm of tool rotation speed.

The Possibility and weldablity of lap joints by PFSW was investigated according to tool shape and welding condition. Tensile shear test were carried out for lap jointed 1050 Al Alloy sheet, and the hardness variations in the weld regions are discussed. The kind of pin shape are 2 types; a simple cylindrical and notched cylindrical shape. Using the notched cylindrical shape tool with 2.2㎜ plunging depth, 1600rpm rotating speed and 3s dwelling time, joints strength were superior to that of simple cylindrical shape tool. The maximum tensile load of lap jointed specimen was 5807.5N. The optimal dimension of the notched cylindrical shape tool was as follows; the diameter of the shoulder and pin were 18 and 10 , and pin length was 2.2㎜.

This paper shows mechanical properties and behaviors of macro- and micro-structures on friction stir welded specimen with 6061-T6 aluminum alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone jointed at welding conditions like the traverse speed of 267㎜/min, tool rotation speed of 2500rpm, pin inserted depth of 4.5㎜ and tilting angle of 2° with tool dimensions such as tool pin diameter of 5mm, shoulder diameter of 15㎜ and pin length of 4.5㎜. The tensile stress σT=228㎫ and the yield point σY=141㎫ are obtained at the condition of traverse speed of 267㎜/min and tool rotation speed of 2500rpm. With the constant rotation speed, the higher traverse speed become, the higher tensile stress and yielding point become. Vickers hardness for welding zone profile were also presented.
