Finite element analysis of eccentrically-stiffened plate/shell may entail discrepancies in stiffness and location of mid-surface unless a special attention is given to eccentric stiffener. The numerical results show lacking/overestimating of the stiffness, if the eccentric stiffener is modelled by beam element or shell element. The offset beam element evaluates the stiffness and the location of mid-surface of the eccentrically-stiffened plate/shell more correctly than beam element or shell element, irrespective of H/L(ratio of height of stiffener to width of plate). The beam element and shell element can be employed for the eccentric stiffener by modifying geometric input data, but these modifications may require tedious work in preparings data for complex real applications.
