Gel Stability according to the Degree of Crosslinking of Electro-Active Hydrogels
문봉열,김인중,나재운,정창남 한국공업화학회 2001 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2001 No.-
Polymer gel can change their volume and shape reversibly, depending on several external stimuli, such as temperature, solvent composition, pH and electric field. The electro-active hydrogels for polymeric actuator were prepared by using the Acrylic acid (AAc) and 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (VPy) and N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAm). Hydrogels were obtained by free radical polymerization using ammonium persurfate (APS) as initiator and methylenebisacrylamide (MBAAm) as crosslinking agent. Gel stability of hydrogels according to the degree of crosslinking was measured by swelling ratio and Textuer analyzer. The hydrogel under 0.75wt% of the degree of crosslinking agent shows gel instability at high pH. The hydrogel more than 0.75wt% of the degree of crosslinking easily break for reason of low elasticity. The hydrogel with 0.75wt% of the degree of crosslinking agent shows satisfactory gel stability and gel strength.

Electroactive hydrogel(EAH) actuators have been attracted very interest as one of the intelligent materials, which have a possibility as an artificial muscle. In our previous studies EAH, we reported feasibility of poly(1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone-co-acrylic acid-co-N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogels as electroresponse and showed two special characteristic which were electric bending behavior in electrolyte solution and increase of physical properties. In this study, to improve electroresponsibility and gel stability, hydrogels were added to silver nanoparticles. The electric behavior of hydrogels according to the amount of silver nanoparticle was measured by bending test in electrolyte solution and gel stability in varying buffer solution. Mechanical properties were measured by Texture analyzer. EAH containing silver nanoparticle was very stable in Na2SO4 electrolyte solution and buffer solution.
