아빠가 휴대폰을 망치로 깼다: 청소년 스마트폰 사용에 관한 한 가족의 갈등경험

이 연구는 청소년의 스마트폰 사용으로 인한 가족의 갈등과 그 의미를 이해하고자 이루어졌다. 이를 위해 스마트폰 사용으로 갈등을 경험한 한 가족을 대상으로 참여관찰과 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였고, 해던 매트릭스를 적용하여 분석하였다. 청소년 스마트폰 사용으로 인한 가족의 갈등경험을 통해 알게 된 점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청소년들이 스마트폰을 사용하는 것은 독립성, 또래와 연결, 관심의 확장, 성취와 인정이라는 그들의 욕구를 충족시켜 주기 때문이다. 둘째, 스마트폰은 갈등전과 이후에 다른 역할을 갖으며, 가족 구성원 마다 다르게 인식하고 있었다. 셋째, 아빠가 자녀의 휴대폰을 망치로 깬 사건은 교육문화의 영향을 받은 것으로 가족 구성원들에게 공통적인 의미와 개별적 의미를 갖는다. 아빠에게는 학업을 방해하는 장애물의 제거이며, 자녀를 통제하기 위한 힘의 회복이다. 청소년에게는 자신의 흥미나 관심을 무시하고, 또래집단에 연결되고자 하는 욕구를 인정하지 않는 것이다. 그리고 가족 모두에게는 학업중심 체제에 순응하는 것이다. 청소년 스마트폰 사용으로 인한 가족 갈등에서 서로의 입장을 돌아보며 갈등해결에 대한 의미 있는 논의가 이루어지기를 기대한다. The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning of family conflicts brought on by the youth's use of smartphones. For this purpose, I collected data through participation observation and interviews with a family who experienced conflict because of a smartphone. We analyzed the data by applying the Haddon Matrix. The following were learned through this study: First, youth smartphone users meet their desire for independence, connection with peers, expansion of interests, achievement, and recognition. Second, the smartphone had a different role depending on the time of the conflict and perceived differently by family members. Third, the case in which the Dad broke the child's cell phone with a hammer was influenced by the educational culture in Korea. It has a common meaning and an individual meaning to the family members. To the father, it means the elimination of obstacles impeding the studies. At the same time, it means the recovery of power to control the children. However, it also takes for granted the youth's interests and means of connecting to peer groups. We also believe this is in response to the academic oriented system of families. I want discussions that will result in resolving conflicts due to youth's excessive use of smartphone.
