본 논문은 디지털 기술의 이중성에 의해 변형되는 사라짐의 형식에 관한 고찰이다. 최근 사라짐의 방식은 기술에 의해 다양한 형식으로 변형되고 있다. 이것은 비단 디지털 영역에서 뿐만 아니라 인간에게도 그 영향이 미치고 있는 것으로 보이는데, 이런 현상은 디지털 기술에 본질적으로 내포된 이중성에서 비롯되는 것으로 여겨진다. 따라서 본 논문은 이에 대한 숙고를 위해, 물질성에서 가상성으로 이행하는 과정에서 디지털 기술의 이중성이 어떻게 이런 사라짐에 영향을 미치는 지를 추적하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 자연적인 사라짐은 물질적으로 존재하는 대상에게서는 본질적으로 일어나는 현상으로 인식되어 왔다. 하지만 디지털 데이터는 본질적으로 스스로 사라질 수 없는 상태로 존재한다. 이것은 디지털 데이터가 물질성에 기반을 두지 않는다는 점에서 비롯되는 것으로 보이며, 이런 이유로 디지털 대상은 인간이나 시스템에게 특정한 사라짐의 방식을 요구하게 된다. 결국 디지털 데이터는 자연적 사라짐과는 다른 방식의 사라짐의 속성, 즉 “자기-사라짐의 부재(absence of self-disappearance)”를 드러낸다. 디지털 디바이스는 디바이스 안에 장착된 전자 칩에 미리 세팅된 수명에 의해 물질적 붕괴와 무관하게 사라짐의 여부가 결정된다. 이런 계획화된 사라짐은 디지털 디바이스가 물질적 상태로 존재함에도 불구하고 자연적 사라짐과는 다른 방식의 사라짐의 조건, 즉 “속박된 사라짐(chained-disappearance)”의 형식으로 존재하게 한다. 기술에 의한 “속박된 사라짐”과 “자기-사라짐의 부재”는 기술적 대상에게서 뿐만 아니라 인간에게서도 나타나는 것으로 보인다. 이런 현상들, 즉 기술 시대에 이러한 사라짐의 변형과 자기-사라짐의 부재는 기술의 이중성에 대한 질문과 함께 기술 시대에 본질적 사라짐이 무엇인지에 대한 숙고를 요청한다. This paper examines the form of disappearance that is transformed by the doubleness of digital technology. Recently, the way of disappearing has appeared in various forms by digital technology. It seems to be influenced not only in the digital domain, but also in humans being, and this phenomenon is believed to stem from the inherent doubleness in digital technology. Therefore, this paper investigates the disappearance of the technology era and examines how the doubleness of technology between materiality and virtuality affects this disappearance. Digital data exists in a state where it can not disappear by itself essentially. This comes primarily from the fact that digital data is no based on materiality. And this reveals the "absence of self-disappearance" rather than a natural disappearance from the digital object. Digital devices are determined to decay at pre-set lifetimes in electronic chips mounted within the device, regardless of material collapse. Thus, digital devices also, even though they exist in a phys-ical state, have the disappearance condition of other way as in digital data. And this reveals as the form of the "chained disappearance." The absence of this disappearance calls for a reflection on what is the essence of dis-appearance in the technology age with the question about the doubleness of technology.
