본 논문의 목적은 중국이 동북아 다자간 안보협력의 제도화에 대해 현재의 ``소극적 기조``로부터 ``적극적 기조``로 변화함 가능성이 있는지를 분석하는 데 있다. 이 글에서는 그 변화의 가능성을 세 가지로 추론해보았다. 첫째 현재 중국 국익의 핵심인 경제이익과 대외정책간의 상관관계가 경제성장의 정도에 따라 변화함 것이라는 점. 둘째 현재의 호의적인 안보환경을 안정적으로 재생산하기 위한 수단으로서 다자간 안보협력의 제도화를 적극적으로 고려할 여지를 가지고 있다는 점, 셋째 경제성장의 지속과 그에 따른 자신감의 회복이 역으로 지역 다자안보협력체를 미국의 지역 패권주의를 제약하는 메커니즘으로 활용할 여지를 제공한다는 점 이다. 그리고 이러한 가능성은 중국의 국내·외적 요인의 변화에 의해 입증될 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to analyze whether China would assume an active position towards the institutionalization of multilateral security cooperation in Northeast Asia. China is attaching importance to the ``internal affairs first`` principle termed the wealthy country and a powerful army through economic growth, and the maintenance of the current security environment for this purpose and maintaining a passive position as to multilateral security cooperation. But if China comes to develop into the big economic power as expected with the trends of continual economic growth like the current situation, the position of their foreign policy would be changed into a more active one with the degree and speed of its development. And their position about the institutionalization of multilateral security cooperation would be changed into an positive one as well. The result of this study revealed the prospect that the position of Chinese government would change into an active position. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate the factors supporting this by dividing them into the internal factors and the external factors.
