Human visual system(HVS) is applied to wavelet transform in this thesis. Wavelet transform decomposes the spatial frequency domain to octave band scale and this process is similar to that of HVS. So the wavelet transform and modulation transfer function(MTF) of HVS can be optimally in order to gain coding efficiency. Several quantizing step-sizes are determined for each subband by integral ratio which is from frequency response of wavelet filter and MTF. Compared with JPEG, the result shows superiority.

When images are presented by Markov process and corrupted by the point spread function(PSF) of blur and/or Gaussian white noise, these are restored by the base of least squares estimation and Roessor's model. Roessor's model is modified to be suitable for the Kalman filtering, so a set of 3-dimensional(3-D) state-space models based on Roesser's model is introduced. The 3-D models extend the regions of the correlation of image pixels and of the PSF of blur to a nonsymmetric half plane(NSHP). These two models (image process and PSF of blur) can be reduced to one by merging their signal flow graphs, thus result in lowering the order of state. A state-space model for filtering was derived from this merged 3-D model, and this state-space model was applied to Kalman filer. By the simulation experiment, this 3-D model has been effective for the images that have poor contrast and are blurred with Gaussian white noise.
한글ㆍ영문 겸용 Word Processor System 개발에 관한 연구

The design theory and implementation of a word processor system with more efficient processing of Korean and English text are studied. A screen editing method is implemented which is more flexible to handle the texts. Convinient control of the keyboards, cursors moving, texts editing, line marking and block operations are considered. The codes to avoid the complexity and inefficiency which are caused by difference of the code length between the Korean and English characters are reconstructed. File management systems and algorithms for executing the control commands are also studied. As a result, a successful word processor system is designed and implemental which performs a complete screen editing system. The performance of the system includes flexible cursor movement, margin setting, block operations of insertion, deletion and copying any sizes of the line and blocks; and also, the printout routines for size variation of the characters are worked out.

This paper introduces an adaptive recursive filter for restoring noisy images. This filter is initially derived from a stationary causal image model. In order to improve the visual quality of restored images, visibility function is incorporated in the implementation of the sequential kalman filter.
