It is sometimes not easy to determine physical modes of complex system such as automotive powertrnin by EMA(Experimcntal Mode Analysis). The procedure of EMA and several methods for validation of the EMA result are introduced briefly in this paper. And then, the methods are applied for some EMA results of the automotive powertrnin to determine physical modes.

In this paper, Verification of the qualitatively identical relationships existing between simulation data and experimental results allowed for a new analysis procedure of a planetary gear set -- in an automatic transmission -- to be conducted. Tooth profiles were found to be crucial to the gear mesh forces of the planetary gear set. Based on Kahraman's Model, dynamic resonances of the planetary gear set were found to be out of operating range. Most importantly, a 2DPLANETARY FEM program, an innovative design tool for planetary gear sets, was utilized.

The NVH optimization of high performance diesel engine needs new concept of development. There were a few tries to Include NVH features on the stage of concept design. We could use proper NVH features at concept stage by the improvement of previous engine’s weak points and test results of major competitor in the market. The 2ND generation engine needs to have not only quiet sound but also pleasant sound characteristics. We applied some sound quality index to get better sound features. We tried to consider vehicle interior noise at engine test bench. We developed a competitive diesel engine which was accomplished by using efficient develop process and approaching new area of NVH.
