무령왕릉은 6세기 중국과 백제의 문화교류를 이해하는 데 아주 중요한 물질사료이다. 본고는 무령왕릉을 중심으로 백제문화와 중국 남조문화의 교류현황에 대해 살펴보았다. 본고는 크게 네 부분으로 구성되었다. 첫째, 무령왕릉에 대한 중국 학계의 관심과 연구 현황, 둘째, 문헌에 보이는 웅진시기 남조와 백제의 관계, 셋째 무령왕릉에 보이는 남조문화의 영향, 넷째 무령왕릉과 관련된 향후 연구과제 등이다. 가장 관건이 되는 것은 세 번째 장으로서, 여기에서는 묘지 선정 및 묘실, 그리고 출토부장품 분석 등 크게 두 가지 방면에서 이뤄졌다. 먼저 묘지의 입지, 묘의 배치, 묘실의 구조 등을 남조 지역의 묘와 비교함으로써 백제의 장의문화가 남조문화의 영향을 받았음을 설명하였다. 나아가 출토품을 매지권, 묘지, 석수, 청자, 동경, 유리동자상, 탄화목 동물형 패식 등으로 나누어 남조 미술의 영향을 밝혔으며, 나아가 남조와 다른 백제 문화의 독창성에 대해서도 언급하였다. 마지막으로 출토유물 가운데 아직 연구가 미진한 용봉문 환두대도와 청동제 완, 수저, 젓가락 등에 대한 논의를 통해 향후 연구 과제를 제시하고, 나아가 그 방법에 대해서도 간략히 언급하였다. 무령왕릉은 동북아시아 문화를 이해하고 연구하는데 귀중한 자료를 제공해주고 있다. 왕릉의 구조와 묘실, 그리고 부장품 등은 남조문화 요소를 강하게 풍기고 있으나, 왕과 왕비의 관, 그리고 부장 복식 등은 백제의 문화를 잘 반영하고 있다. 이처럼 무령왕릉은 고대 동북아시아 문화교류의 실상을 전해줄 뿐 아니라, 나아가 백제 고유문화의 성격을 드러내는 물질사료로서도 커다란 역사적 의의를 가지고 있다. The tomb of King Muryong is a very significant historic site for the understanding of cultural exchanges between China and Baekje in the 6th century. This thesis discussed cultural exchanges between Baekje and Southern Dynasties based on the tomb of King Muryong. The thesis was composed of the followings: first, Chinese researchers` interest in the tomb of King Muryong and the current state of their research; second, the relationship between Baekje and Southern Dynasties during the Ungjin period; Third, the influence of Southern Dynasties detected in the tomb of King Muryong; and fourth, future research tasks related to the tomb of King Muryong. The most important part is the third chapter, which proved Baekje`s funeral culture was influenced by the culture of Southern Dynasties by comparing their grave positions and arrangements and the structures of burial chambers. Furthermore, the influence of the art of Southern Dynasties on Baekje was proved after excavations from the tomb of King Muryong were sorted out into land purchase record, epitaph tablet, stone figure placed before a tomb, copper mirror, glass child statue and animal-shaped burned wood ornament. Moreover, the originality of Baekje different from that of Southern Dynasties was also mentioned. Lastly, future research tasks were presented and their methods were briefly mentioned through discussions of the excavations, such as sword with round pommel decorated with dragon patterns, copper bowl, spoon and chopsticks. The tomb of King Muryong provides important historic materials for the understanding of Northeast Asian culture. The structure and chamber of the tomb and the excavations form it strongly show the elements of Southern Dynasties` culture. The coffins of the king and queen, their personal belongings and costumes well reflects the culture of Baekje. In conclusion, the tomb of King Muryong is highly significant in that it not only tells the actualities of cultural exchanges in Northeast Asian region in ancient times but also shows the characteristics of Baekje`s peculiar culture.
