Song, Qing-Kun,Li, Jun,Jiang, Hai-Dong,He, Yu-Ming,Zhou, Xiao-Qiao,Huang, Cheng-Yu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10
Objective: Yanting County is a high risk area for esophageal cancer (EC) in China. The purpose of this study was to describe the mortality and mortality change of EC from 2004 to 2009 in Yanting County. Methods: EC mortality data from 2004 to 2009 obtained from the Cancer Registry in Yanting were analyzed. Annual percentage changes (APC) were calculated to assess the trends in EC mortality. Age-standardized mortality was calculated based on world standard population of 2000. Results: The average EC mortality was 54.7/$10^5$ in males and 31.6/$10^5$ in females over the 6 years. A decline in EC mortality with time was observed in both genders, with a rate of -8.70% per year (95% CI: -13.23%~-3.93%) in females and -4.11% per year (95%CI: -11.16%~3.50%) in males. Conclusion: EC mortality decreased over the six years in both genders, although it remained high in the Yanting area. There is still a need to carry out studies of risk factors for improved cancer prevention and further reduction in the disease burden.

Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma of esophagus (ESCC) is one of the most common cancers in China. Preserved vegetables are processed foods and consumed in high amounts in the high risk areas for ESCC. This study aimed to investigate the relationships of preserved vegetable consumption with ESCC and precancer lesions. Methods: Cases from Yanting cancer hospital with pathological diagnosis of primary cancer, along with controls and individuals diagnosed with precancer lesions by endoscopy with iodine staining were interviewed. Trained staff collected data on dietary habits 1 year before the interview. An unconditional logistic regression model was used to estimate odds ratios of preserved vegetable consumption for precancer lesions and cancer. Results: Adjusting for potential confounders, intake of preserved vegetables (OR=2.92, 95%CI 1.32~6.47) and longer intake period (OR=5.78, 95%CI 2.26~14.80) were associated with higher risk of ESCC. Compared with lowest intake frequency, the highest was associated with a 3.0-fold risk for precancer lesions and 3.59-fold risk for ESCC (both p<0.05). Conclusion: Consumption of preserved vegetables is a risk factor for esophageal lesions in high risk areas. The carcinogenicity of preserved vegetables needs investigation in further studies and the public health strategies for reducing the consumption might be initiated in high risk areas.

Liu, Dong-Fu,Wu, Ji-Tao,Wang, Jian-Ming,Liu, Qing-Zuo,Gao, Zhen-Li,Liu, Yun-Xiang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.7
Prostate cancer is a highly prevalent disease in older men of the western world. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small RNA molecules that regulate gene expression via posttranscriptional inhibition of protein synthesis. To identify the diagnostic potential of miRNAs in prostate cancer, we downloaded the miRNA expression profile of prostate cancer from the GEO database and analysed the differentially expressed miRNAs (DE-miRNAs) in prostate cancerous tissue compared to non-cancerous tissue. Then, the targets of these DE-miRNAs were extracted from the database and mapped to the STRING and KEGG databases for network construction and pathway enrichment analysis. We identified a total of 16 miRNAs that showed a significant differential expression in cancer samples. A total of 9 target genes corresponding to 3 DE-miRNAs were obtained. After network and pathway enrichment analysis, we finally demonstrated that miR-20 appears to play an important role in the regulation of prostate cancer onset. MiR-20 as single biomarker or in combination could be useful in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. We anticipate our study could provide the groundwork for further experiments.

The aim of this paper is to increase the understanding of ice lens initiation and growth in freezing soil. A model describing the growth process of ice lenses in soils has been established. The model presented here, which considers a series of processes, including heat transfer, water migration, phase change, ice lens formation, soil deformation, is solved by the use of a transient finite element. The simulated results agree with the experimental data. Results show that: (1) Negative pore water pressure occurs in unfrozen areas, this result in the water transfers from the unfrozen zone to the frozen zone and substantial water was stored in the frozen zone which results in oscillation with in water content distributions. (2) Few segregation ice lenses appeared in the fast freezing section, several thin and discontinuous segregation ice lenses appeared in the transitional section, and thick ice lenses appeared in the third phase when the freezing front tended to be stable. (3) Both the consolidation process and the expansion process are in progress during the freezing process, due to the migration of unfrozen water. (4) The frost heave model is composed of two aspects: the coupled heat-mass transport and the growth of ice lens. Numerical modeling is able to represent the development of both the thermal field and ice segregation observed in the physical models.

Smad4 is involved in cancer progression and metastasis. Using a pair of human syngeneic epithelial ovarian cancer cells with low (HO-8910) and high (HO-8910PM) metastatic abilities, we aimed to reveal the role of Smad4 in ovarian cancer metastasis in vitro. Smad4 was down-regulated in HO-8910PM cell line relative to HO-8910 by implicating Smad4 was probably a potential tumor suppressor gene for ovarian cancer. Re-expression of Smad4 decreased the migration ability and inhibited the invasion capacity of HO-8910PM, while promoted the cell adhesion capacity for HO-8910PM. The stable expression of Smad4 increased the expression of E-cadherin, reduced the expression of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and slightly down-regulated the expression of VEGF. Smad4 suppresses human ovarian cancer cell metastasis potential through its effect on the expressions of PAI-1, E-cadherin and VEGF. Results from current work implicate Smad4 might suppress the invasion and metastasis of human ovarian tumor cells through a TGF-β/Smad-mediated pathway. [BMB reports 2010; 43(8): 554-560]
Robust Stability Analysis of Time-varying Delay Systems via an Augmented States Approach
Chao-Yang Dong,Ming-Yu Ma,Qing Wang,Si-Qian Ma 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2018 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.16 No.4
This paper focuses on the robust stability analysis of linear systems with time varying delays. The second derivative of the state is used to construct a novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF). Then, both the integrals and derivatives of the states along with the delayed states could be taken into consideration in handling of the LKF. We introduce these augmented variables and establish correlations between them. Moreover, our approach makes it available that quadratic convex combination can be applied not only to the time delay, but also to the derivative of it. Robust stability criteria are presented, and numerical examples illustrate that the methods are less conservative.

Mobile payment Apps such as Alipay, WeChat payment and Union-Pay are emerging in endlessly, and the competition in the mobile payment market is becoming increasingly severe. This paper divides the mobile payment Apps into perceived benefits and perceived sacrifices based on their characteristics. By means of questionnaire survey, 350 questionnaires were collected, among which 309 were valid. In addition, the model was tested by reliability analysis, validity analysis, structural equation model and path analysis. Finally, the data processing results show that:Consumer innovation has a positive effect on the perceived benefits of mobile payment Apps, that is, the higher the consumer innovation is, the higher the perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and perceived entertainment are. Perceived benefits positively influence the perceived value of mobile payment Apps, and then promote the use intention of consumers. Perceived benefits and perceived value play a mediating role between consumers' innovation and their willingness to use mobile payment Apps. The above research conclusions clearly define the impact and function mechanism of consumer innovation on the intention to use mobile payment Apps. Therefore, the following suggestions are put forward to mobile payment enterprises: Position innovation groups and pay attention to the word-of-mouth effect. Optimize product functions and enhance the perceived usefulness of consumers. Simplify operation steps and promote advertising. Reduce payment risks and increase security guarantee.

Background: Low tyrosine-protein phosphatase nonreceptor type 12 (PTPN12) expression may be associated with breast cancer growth, proliferation, and metastasis. However, the prognostic value of PTPN12 in breast cancer has not been clearly identified. Patients and Methods: 51 triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients and 83 non-TNBC patients with a histopathology diagnosis from October 2001 to September 2006 were included in this study. Immunohistochemical staining for PTPN12 on tissue microarrays was conducted. Results: High PTPN12 expression was seen in 39.2% of TNBC and 60.2 % of non-TNBC cases. Low PTPN12 expression was associated with lymph node status (p = 0.002) and distant metastatic relapse (p = 0.002) in TNBC patients. Similarly, low PTPN12 expression in non-TNBC patients was significantly correlated with lymph node status (p = 0.002), stage (p = 0.002) and distant metastatic relapse (p = 0.039). The high PTPN12 expression group was associated with longer DFS and OS compared with low PTPN12 expression group only in TNBC cases (p = 0.005, p = 0.015), according to univariate Cox regression analysis. Conclusion: These findings provide evidence that low expression of PTPN12 is associated with worse prognosis and may be used as a potential prognostic biomarker in TNBC patients.
