Cloud Customer's Historical Record Based Resource Pricing
Aazam, Mohammad,Eui-Nam Huh,St-Hilaire, Marc,Chung-Horng Lung,Lambadaris, Ioannis IEEE 2016 IEEE transactions on parallel and distributed syst Vol.27 No.7

Media content in its digital form has been rapidly scaling up, resulting in popularity gain of cloud computing. Cloud computing makes it easy to manage the vastly increasing digital content. Moreover, additional features like, omnipresent access, further service creation, discovery of services, and resource management also play an important role in this regard. The forthcoming era is interoperability of multiple clouds, known as cloud federation or inter-cloud computing. With cloud federation, services would be provided through two or more clouds. Once matured and standardized, inter-cloud computing is supposed to provide services which would be more scalable, better managed, and efficient. Such tasks are provided through a middleware entity called cloud broker. A broker is responsible for reserving resources, managing them, discovering services according to customer's demands, Service Level Agreement (SLA) negotiation, and match-making between the involved service provider and the customer. So far existing studies discuss brokerage in a narrow focused way. In the research outcome presented in this paper, we provide a holistic brokerage model to manage on-demand and advance service reservation, pricing, and reimbursement. A unique feature of this study is that we have considered dynamic management of customer's characteristics and historical record in evaluating the economics related factors. Additionally, a mechanism of incentive and penalties is provided, which helps in trust build-up for the customers and service providers, prevention of resource underutilization, and profit gain for the involved entities. For practical implications, the framework is modeled on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) On-Demand and Reserved Instances service pricing. For certain features required in the model, data was gathered from Google Cluster trace.

Framework of Resource Management for Intercloud Computing
Aazam, Mohammad,Huh, Eui-Nam Hindawi Limited 2014 Mathematical problems in engineering Vol.2014 No.-

There has been a very rapid increase in digital media content, due to which media cloud is gaining importance. Cloud computing paradigm provides management of resources and helps create extended portfolio of services. Through cloud computing, not only are services managed more efficiently, but also service discovery is made possible. To handle rapid increase in the content, media cloud plays a very vital role. But it is not possible for standalone clouds to handle everything with the increasing user demands. For scalability and better service provisioning, at times, clouds have to communicate with other clouds and share their resources. This scenario is called Intercloud computing or cloud federation. The study on Intercloud computing is still in its start. Resource management is one of the key concerns to be addressed in Intercloud computing. Already done studies discuss this issue only in a trivial and simplistic way. In this study, we present a resource management model, keeping in view different types of services, different customer types, customer characteristic, pricing, and refunding. The presented framework was implemented using Java and NetBeans 8.0 and evaluated using CloudSim 3.0.3 toolkit. Presented results and their discussion validate our model and its efficiency.

Cloud computing is an emerging technology, which allows the user to fulfill his needs by outsourcing the resources. With the passage of time, cloud computing has become an essential part of our lives. But it still requires some sort of standardization, specially in terms of user’s trust, privacy, and security related things. This study presents different types of cloud computing services and their working domains along with some key virtualization related issues that are encountered by the cloud service provider as well as the user. Those key issues, related with virtual network are discussed in this paper. This study provides a basis to work further on those issues, so that the key concerns are addressed as soon as possible and cloud computing could become standardized and more prevalent.

Simultaneous removal of carbon and nutrients from a synthetic wastewater in aerobic/anoxic sequence batch reactor (SBR) was investigated. The experiments were conducted based on a central composite design (CCD)and analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM). Two significant independent variables, cycle time and aeration time, were studied to analyze the process. Five dependent parameters--total COD (TCOD) removal, total nitrogen removal, total phosphorus removal, total Kjeldahl nitrogen removal and effluent nitrate concentration--were monitored as the process responses. The region of exploration for the process was taken as the area enclosed by cycle times (2,4.25 and 6.5 h) and aeration times (30, 40 and 50 min/h) boundaries. The maximum COD (87.18%) and TKN (78.94%)removal efficiencies were obtained at the cycle time and aeration time of 6.5 h and 50 min/h, respectively. While the maximum TN (71.15%) and phosphorus (68.91%) removal efficiencies were obtained at cycle time of 6.5 h and aeration time of 40min/h. As a result, high cycle time (6.5 h) and moderate aeration time (40min/h) were found to be the optimal region for maximum carbon and nitrogen removal efficiencies.
A Novel Approach for Optimal Multimedia Data Distribution in Mobile Cloud Computing
Phuoc Hung, Pham,Aazam, Mohammad,Nguyen, Tien-Dung,Huh, Eui-Nam Hindawi Limited 2014 Advances in multimedia Vol.2014 No.-

With the integration of mobile computing and cloud computing, more diverse services can be provided to the users, supporting the mobility feature of mobile computing along with the power of cloud computing. This new paradigm still faces challenges, especially in terms of performance. When it comes to multimedia data communication, thin clients (such as smart phones and tablets) suffer because of performance and power constraints. Previously done studies have trivially addressed this problem. Therefore, in our paper, we present a framework in which thick clients (laptop or desktop computers) are incorporated into mobile cloud paradigm with attention paid to user mobility. Its objective is to optimize the distribution of multimedia content between the cloud and the thin clients. Our work comes up with both numerical analysis and simulation to justify the validity and the effectiveness of the proposal approach.

CTaG: An Innovative Approach for Optimizing Recovery Time in Cloud Environment
( Pham Phuoc Hung ),( Mohammad Aazam ),( Eui-nam Huh ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.4
Traditional infrastructure has been superseded by cloud computing, due to its cost-effective and ubiquitous computing model. Cloud computing not only brings multitude of opportunities, but it also bears some challenges. One of the key challenges it faces is recovery of computing nodes, when an Information Technology (IT) failure occurs. Since cloud computing mainly depends upon its nodes, physical servers, that makes it very crucial to recover a failed node in time and seamlessly, so that the customer gets an expected level of service. Work has already been done in this regard, but it has still proved to be trivial. In this study, we present a Cost-Time aware Genetic scheduling algorithm, referred to as CTaG, not only to globally optimize the performance of the cloud system, but also perform recovery of failed nodes efficiently. While modeling our work, we have particularly taken into account the factors of network bandwidth and customer`s monetary cost. We have implemented our algorithm and justify it through extensive simulations and comparison with similar existing studies. The results show performance gain of our work over the others, in some particular scenarios.
