초등 자녀의 리터러시 학습에 대한 다문화 가족 학부모의 인식 연구 - 이주 배경 어머니를 중심으로

본 연구는 초등학생 자녀가 경험하는 리터러시 학습에 대해 다문화 가족의 학부모가 어떤 인식을 갖고 있는지 분석하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구에서는 베트남, 몽골, 미얀마, 중국, 캄보디아, 필리핀 출신의 어머니 10명을 참여자로 선정하였다. 학교에서 자녀의 국어교육 경험, 학교 외부에서 제공되는 지원 등을 중심으로 1대 1일 반구조화된 인터뷰가 이루어졌다. 참여자들은 교육 시행의 주체로서 학교 교사를 신뢰하는 한편 학업 성취 수준을 높이기 위해서는 사교육이 필수적인 것으로 인식하였다. 또한 학업 및 진로 대비 차원에서 리터러시 역량이 매우 중요한 것으로 인식하였으나 제대로 된 정보 습득 기회가 부족하여 어려움을 느끼고 있었다. 다문화 학생에 대한 추가적 지원이 제공되기를 바라는 한편 자녀들이 다문화 가족 출신인 이유로 차별받을 것을 걱정하기도 하였다. 연구 결과, 학교-다문화 학부모 간 소통 창구 지원하기, 도서관 등 지역사회의 자원활용 방안 확대하기, 결혼이주여성과 그 자녀에 대한 지원을 통합적으로 제공하기 등 시사점이 도출되었다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the perceptions of immigrated mothers about the literacy learning experiences of their children who attend elementary school. To this end, the study selected, as participants, ten mothers who had immigrated from 6 countries including Vietnam. One-on-one semi-structured interviews were conducted with them focusing on their children’s experiences with language education at school, the support provided outside school, etc. While the participants had trust in their children’s teachers at school as the main agents of instruction, they also perceived private education is essential for raising academic achievement levels of their children. They also recognized the importance of literacy skills for academic and career readiness, but seemed to have difficulties in acquiring the right kind of information. They wanted additional support for multicultural students and worried that their children might be discriminated because of their multicultural background. Recommendations from the study include supporting school-multicultural parent communication channels, expanding access to community resources such as libraries, and providing integrated support for immigrated women and their children.
