인터넷 팬 커뮤니티의 규율권력이 어떻게 행사되는가?

본 연구는 푸코의 ‘권력’이론을 토대로 인터넷 팬 커뮤니티에도 규율권력이 작용하고 있음을 밝히고 있다. 디시인사이드 ‘주군의 태양’ 갤러리를 참여관찰하고 팬 담론을 분석하여, 팬 커뮤니티에서 규율권력이 행사되는 과정과 규율권력을 지지하는 ‘지식’과 권력관계에서 구성된 ‘진리’가 무엇인지를 찾고자 했다. 분석결과, 인터넷 팬 커뮤니티에서는 ‘고나리’라는 장치를 활용해서 규율권력을 행사하고 있었다. 팬 커뮤니티의 질서와 규칙을 체득하고 있는 오래된 팬들은 감시와 처벌을 통해서 신입 팬을 팬 공간이 요구하는 주체가 될 수 있도록 교육했다. 신입 팬들은 훈육과정을 통해서 적극적이고 열정적인 팬으로 성장했다. 팬 커뮤니티에서는 구체적으로 ‘친목’, ‘셀털’, ‘찻내’ 행위를 규제했다. 규율권력은 “팬 커뮤니티의 성장과 발전을 위해서”라는 지식에 의해 정당화되었다. 팬 커뮤니티는 ‘규율 권력’과 그 ‘저항’이 투쟁하는 역동적 공간이었으며, 다양한 지점에서 얽혀있는 권력관계와 규율권력의 지식은 “팬 공간을 유지하고 발전시켜야 한다”는 담론적 진리를 구성했다. This study analyzes how the disciplinary power in the internet fan community is exercised on the basis of Foucault’s theory of power. The diverse discourses from fan activities collected through participant observation in the internet fan community (DCinside “Master’s Sun” gallery) are analyzed by discourse analysis method. This study aims to trace the trajectories in which the disciplinary powers are exercised, to discover the ‘knowledge’ which bolsters disciplinary powers, and to identify the ‘truth’ formed in the web of power relations. The research findings show that the internet fan community utilizes a disciplinary power apparatus called ‘Gonari to manage its own community. Long-term fans who are well aware of the hierarchical order and the rules of the fan community take charge of educating new fans to become desirable subjects of the fan community by means of surveillance and regulation. New fans have eventually become active fans under the supervising gaze and through penal interventions. In this process the knowledge of disciplinary power enacts and refines the disciplinary power itself. The disciplinary powers appear in the form of regulations which prohibit ‘Chinmok (forming friendly groups)’, ‘Channae (sweet-talking)’, and Selftell (talking about personal stuff)’. This kind of disciplining power is justified by the knowledge that it is necessary “for the growth and development of the fan community.” Internet fan community is a dynamic space in which ‘disciplining powers’ and their resisting counterparts collide. Knowledge of disciplinary power and power relations entangled at various points construct the discursive truth that “fan community should be maintained and flourished at any rate.”

디시인사이드 ‘주군의 태양’ 갤러리 구성원 유형화를 통한 인터넷 팬 커뮤니티 권력관계 특성연구

이 연구는 인터넷 팬 커뮤니티가 다양한 사람들의 욕구와 애정이 얽혀있는 역동적인 공동체라는 점에 주목하고, 팬 커뮤니티 구성원들의 권력관계의 특징을 찾고자 했다. 참여 관찰과 담론분석 방법으로 디시인사이드 ‘주군의 태양’ 갤러리 팬 활동을 분석했다. 부르디외의 ‘문화자본’과 ‘아비투스’ 개념을 팬 공간에 적용해서, ‘닉네임’, ‘활동 경력’, ‘활동 특성’에 따라 팬 구성원을 유형화했다. 분석결과를 보면, ‘주군의 태양’ 갤러리에서는 인터넷 커뮤니티에서 구성원의 정체성을 나타내는 ‘닉네임’의 독점성이 인정되지 않았다. 팬 공간에서 팬들이 소유한 팬 문화자본의 가치는 인정되었으나, 자본을 소유한 개인의 ‘닉네임’을 언급하는 것이 금지되었다. 따라서 인터넷 팬 커뮤니티 권력은 특정개인이나 특정집단으로 집중되지 못하고, 팬 커뮤니티로 분산되고 있었다. 이 과정에서 팬 활동 경력은 일종의 ‘아비투스’가 되어, ‘팬 활동 경험’과 ‘팬 활동 지식’을 보유하지 못한 신참자들에게 ‘상징적 폭력’으로 작용했다. ‘주군의 태양’ 팬이 가장 중요하게 여기는 가치는 드라마 팬들이 모여서 팬 활동을 하는 공간인 ‘주군의 태양’ 갤러리의 유지와 발전에 있었다. 요컨대 본 논문은 ‘팬 커뮤니티 공간의 목적(팬 공간의 유지와 발전)을 위해서 개인의 권력이 분산된다’는 새로운 의미의 권력관계를 발견했다는 의미가 있다. Paying attention to the fact that internet fan community is a dynamic entity where various desires and emotions of fans are entangled, this study aims to explore the characteristics of power relations among the fan community members. For this purpose, extensive period of participant observation of “Master’s Sun” gallery, one of the DCinside galleries has been carried out. The diverse discourses from fan activities collected through participant observation were analyzed by discourse analysis method. Applying Bourdieu’s concepts such as ‘cultural capital’ and ‘habitus’ to the fan community, this study could classify fans by their ‘nicknames’, ‘activity history’ and ‘undertaking roles’ and observe their power relations. The findings of this study show that the shared ‘nickname’ by many fans is rather common in order not to reveal the identity of any individual fan. It is all the more important to maintain the fan community by ascribing any cultural capital of fan community to collective asset. For this reason, It is prohibited to mention or acknowledge a fan’s nickname who is supposedly having more cultural capital. In “Master’s Sun” Gallery, power is not given to or acquired by any individual fan or group of fans. Rather, power is supposed to be equally shared by its fans who use multiple power decentralizing strategies. The fan community rules acquired by years of fan activities become a kind of ‘habitus’. These rules exert ‘symbolic violence’ onto the new fans who lack ‘the fan experience’ and ‘the fan knowledge’. The most important value of ‘Master’s Sun’ fan community is to maintain and expand the community itself in order to celebrate collective fan activities. In sum, this study is significant for having found out the unprecedented power relations from internet fan community which prefer decentralization of power for the sake of fan community’s prolonged existence.

인터넷 팬 커뮤니티에서 갈등은 어떤 의미가 있는가?

인터넷 팬 커뮤니티는 다양한 사건과 위기를 경험하는 갈등의 공간이라는 점에 주목하고, 인터넷 팬 공동체에 갈등이 어떤 영향을 끼치는지를 관찰하였다. 다양한 팬덤이 공존하는 복합적 팬 공동체인 디시인사이드 ‘해외연예’ 갤러리에서 발생한 ‘중국 대중문화 콘텐츠 팬’ 이탈 사례를 연구했다. 관찰 결과, 팬 구성원들은 다양한 갈등관리 방법(적대적 갈등관리방식, 회피적 갈등관리 방식, 교섭적 갈등관리방식)을 활용하였다. 팬 구성원들은 주로 적대적 갈등관리방식으로 갈등에 대처했는데, 이전의 팬 활동 경험에서 경쟁적이고 공격적인 태도로 상대방의 발언을 억제하는 적대적 방식이 갈등을 제거하는데 유용한 방법이라는 것을 학습했기 때문이다. 극단적인 갈등상황에서 지지 세력이 감소하자 적대적 대응 방식은 유용한 갈등대처 방법이 아닌 것으로 드러났다. 그럼에도 갈등은 팬 커뮤니티 구성원이 공동체의 문제에 관심을 갖게 하고, 위기를 극복하기 위한 참여를 독려하는 효과가 있었다. 팬들은 팬 커뮤니티의 유지와 발전을 위해서 끊임없이 노력하기 때문이다. 팬 커뮤니티의 갈등관리 방식은 이전의 팬 활동 경험에서 영향을 받은 것이고 이 경험은 다른 팬 공동체의 갈등관리 방식으로 활용될 것이다. In this study, there is a purpose to find out what the influence the conflict had on the fan community. since The Internet fan community is a conflict space experiencing various incidents and crises. We observed a case of departure of “popular culture content fan of China” which occurred in DC inside “foreign entertainment” gallery which is a complex fan community where various fan groups coexist. Observational results, the members of the internet fan community utilized various conflict management style(hostile conflict management, avoidance conflict management style, and negotiation conflict management style). Fan members learned that it is useful to suppress opponent’s remarks with a negative attitude from the experience of previous fan activities, so they mainly utilized hostile conflict management methods. The conflict had the effect that members of the fan community were interested in community issues and increased participation to overcome the crisis. Fan members are constantly trying to maintain and expand their fan community. This conflict management method was influenced by the experience of previous fan activities, and this experience knowledge will be utilized in the following fan community conflict management method.

한국과 미국의 정치인 팬 커뮤니티 비교연구 -인터넷 팬덤의 정치적 효과를 중심으로

정보통신기술의 발달은 인터넷 하위문화로서 팬덤(fandom)을 양산하고 있다. 팬덤 현상은 사회적으로 연예인에서 스포츠스타, 정치인까지 다양하다. 최근 한국과 미국에서는 인터넷에서의 정치인 팬덤 현상이 활발하게 등장하고 있다. 이러한 정치적 팬덤에 천착한 본 연구는 인터넷 정치인 팬 커뮤니티의 정치적 효과 분석을 목적으로 하고 있다. 구체적으로 연구는 한국과 미국의 인터넷 정치인 팬 커뮤니티(fan community)가 선거과정에 어떤 역할을 수행하며 그 효과는 무엇인지를 살펴보았다. 분석을 위해 풋과 스나이더(Foot and Schneider)의 웹 캠페인 분석 모델을 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 인터넷 정치팬덤은 인터넷 공간의 참여지향적 성향과 개인의 열성적인 지지성향이 결합되어 대중의 정치영역으로의 진입과 이로 인한 대의정치를 활성화시키고 있음을 파악할 수 있었다. 인터넷 정치 팬덤은 정치 영역에서 정치인에 대한 묵시적 동의와 외면이라는 소극적 표현에서 벗어나 시민의 참여성을 촉진하고 대의정치의 실현을 이루어가는 효과가 있다고 할 수 있다. The development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) generates a fandom as a phenomenon of the Internet subculture. The fandom phenomenon is revealed in various spectrum from entertainment celebrities and sport stars to politicians. Recently, the Internet political fandom is actively appearing in U.S. and Korea. This research that is natured to the Internet political fandom analyzes the political effect of the Internet politician fan community (IPFC). Specifically, by applying a well-known model by Foot and Schneider, this research examines what role IPFC does in performing in the campaign process and what kinds of political effects it intrigues. As a result, we identify IPFC facilitates the entry of the masses into political sphere and the development of representative politics with the packing effect that is combined with the Internet`s participatory disposition and an individual`s ardent supportive disposition. The Internet political fandom is effective to promote citizens` participation and to realize the attainment of representative politics by averting unsaid agreements or avoidance from politicians.
