The USP (Under Sleeper Pad) is one of methods to effectively reduce impact loads occurred from train loading. In the study, the repeated impact load is applied to the ballasted layer with newly developed impact load tester, which can control the impact load according to the free fall height of load plate with weight. In cases EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber sleeper pad is attached to the load plate, settlement of ballasted layer is reduced by 56%, gravel breakage by 40% with the impact load decrease by 24% as compared without EPDM rubber sleeper pad.
자갈궤도용 침목방진패드의 수직 스프링강성 시험기법에 관한 실험적 연구

Ballasted gravel will be damaged or worn by the repetitive train load. And these damages of ballast gravel could be increased by increasing vehicle speed. Therefore, various techniques for reducing the ballast pressure have been proposed, such as the attached pad type of sleeper bottom for ballasted track. In this study, spring stiffness test method were proposed to evaluate the performance of under sleeper pad for ballasted track. Standard ballast plate(SBP) was developed to simulate the ballast gravel and compared with the foreign test results. Experimental results showed a trend similar to the previous studies according to various loading plate type. specimen type(Type A, Type B) differences in spring stiffness according to hardness were not significant. Also, the FSP (Flat steel plate) - shaped jig is about 80% of the spring stiffness was greater than SBP. Therefore, to evaluate the actual spring stiffness of under sleeper pad for ballasted track, it was important to adopted the appropriate spring stiffness test method using the SBP to simulate actual field conditions.
비 부착형 침목방진패드 적용에 따른 자갈궤도의 궤도지지강성 평가

본 연구에서는 고속화에 적합한 자갈궤도(Ballasted track)의 궤도지지강성을 확보할 수 있는 D-USP를 개발하였다. 또한, D-USP가 설치된 자갈궤도의 궤도지지강성(track support stiffness)을 정, 동적 및 피로(static, dynamic and fatigue)측면에서 분석하였다. 연구결과, D-USP 설치에 따라 자갈궤도의 궤도지지강성을 고속화에 적합한 수준으로 저감시킬 수 있음을 실험적으로 입증하였다. 또한 설계(design) 및 유지관리(maintenance)에 활용이 가능한 D-USP가 적용된 자갈궤도의 적정 침목간격(optimum sleeper spacing)과 궤도지지강성 평가기법을 제시하였다. In this study, we have developed D-USP to secure the track support stiffness of ballasted track which is suitable for speed-up of conventional railways. And the track support stiffness of ballasted track with D-USP was analyzed by laboratory test with the full-scaled specimen. As a result, the track support stiffness of ballasted track was proved experimentally and it could be reduced to proper level for speed-up by applying D-USP. In addition, we have suggested the evaluation method of the track support stiffness and optimum sleeper spacing of ballasted track with the D-USP could be utilized for the design and maintenance.
