이 글은 디지털TV의 양식성을 디지털 미디어의 문화 테크놀로지적 특성으로 부터 고찰해 그것이 어떤 형식과 존재, 수용의 측면으로 나타나는지 살펴본다. 이는 궁극적으로 텔레비전 양식의 핵심 키워드였던 흐름이라든가 유동성의 사사화가 디지털TV 국면에서 어떻게 변화하고 있는지 해명하는 작업이다. 이를 위해 이 논문은 디지털 미디어의 재매개 논리를 접속과 분리를 함의하는 임베디드니스 개념으로 제시한 후 이 개념이 디지털TV의 형식, 존재, 수용에 어떻게 작동하는지 논의한다. 디지털TV는 기존의 텔레비전 시스템, 즉 텔레비전 방송사 채널-네트워크-수상기로부터 벗어나 여타의 미디어들과 결합된(혹은 배태된) 상태(embedded)로 형식화되고, 그런 만큼 사회 곳곳으로 침투해 존재하며(embedding), 그로 인해 시공간적 구속성으로부터 탈피된 상태(disembedded/disembedding), 다시 말해 시공간적 자율성이 극대화된 수용행태를 보편화시키고 있다. 이로써 흐름은 플랫폼의 흐름이 아닌 플랫폼, 네트워크, 디바이스 등을 넘나들며, 그러면서 그 안에서 개인화된 흐름으로 재구성되고, 유동성의 사사화는 가족단위를 넘어 개인화의 차원, 다시 말해 가족화가 아닌 개인화된 유동성의 차원으로 재구성된다. 디지털TV의 이 같은 변화는 기존 텔레비전의 흐름과 유동성의 사사화가 개인화와 미디어화의 지평에서 재고될 것을 요구한다. This paper examines the digital TV modality on a basis of cultural technology of digital media, and then explains how this cultural technology would be deployed in terms of form, existence and reception of digital TV. This work ultimately aims at elucidation for how flow and mobile privatization, which has been a core cultural mode of television, would be changed in digital TV. For this work, this paper brings up the remediation logic of digital media to the concept of embeddedness signifying connection and separation, after then discusses how this embeddedness of digital media would be functioned in form, existence and even reception of digital TV. Digital TV is now making his own status differentiated with traditional television system; forming his platform as embedded with some other media, out of traditional channel-network-device structure, existing as embedding here and there in our society, maximizing a state of disembedded/disembedding in reception of TV, the time-space autonomy for using TV. With this, we insist that flow ought to be reconstructed as that of crossing the platform, network and device, much more individualized flow in those environment. That is much more contrasted with the flow within traditional TV platform, now severely weakened. Mobile privatization is also reconstructed as a dimension of individualization beyond family unit, as it were, not dimension of domesticity but individualized mobility. These changes of digital TV modality request to reconsider flow and mobile privatization of television on the horizontal of individualization and mediatization.
