키네틱 타이포그래피를 활용한 영화 오프닝타이틀 시퀀스 표현연구

컴퓨터의 발달과 함께 영화 오프닝 타이틀 시퀀스도 하루가 다르게 발전하고 있다. 초기에는 타이틀 및 스텝들의 이름을 몇 장의 텍스트로 촬영하여 옵티컬 방식으로 표현하는 방식에서 시작되어 현재는 영화 도입부와 자연스럽게 연결되는 시퀀스부터 영화 중간에 삽입되는 형태, 나아가 2D, 3D 등의 다양한 표현 기법들로 독립적인 형태를 보이고 있다. 이렇게 오프닝타이틀 시퀀스가 하나의 독립적인 예술로 발전되고 있는 것은 짧게는 60초 길게는 10분 남짓의 짧은 영상만으로 영화의 콘셉트를 전달하는 동시에 줄거리의 함축적인 내용을 암시하고 흥미를 유발하는 기능 등 감독의 의지에 따라 다양한 목적으로 영화와의 독립적이면서도, 분리가 아닌 영화와 하나의 유기체 적이며 독창적인 예술의 창조가 가능하기 때문이다. 이 논문에서는 키네틱 타이포그래피의 이론과 분석 방법을 기반으로 2012년도 한국 흥행 영화 10편의 영화 오프닝 타이틀 시퀀스의 제작 방식을 다양한 방법으로 분석하여 앞으로의 나아갈 오프닝 타이틀 시퀀스의 방향을 예측하고 미학적, 기술적인 모델을 제시해 본다. With the advancement of computers, opening title sequences in movies are continuously improving. Initially, titles and opening credits were created using what is called the optical method, whereby text was photographed on separate film and then copied onto the movies film negative. In contemporary movie making, however, the title sequence may be seamlessly integrated into the beginning of the movie by an insertion method that not only allows for more diverse technical expression, including the use of both 2D and 3D graphics, but also for its emergence as an independent art form. As such a title sequence, in as little as 50 seconds or up to 10 minutes, is able to convey the films concept while also suggesting more implicit intricacies of plot and thereby eliciting greater interest in the movie. Moreover, according to the directors intent and for a variety of purposes, the title sequence, while maintaining its autonomy, is inseparable from the movie as an organic whole; therefore, is inseparable to create works that are highly original in nature. The purpose of this study is to analyze the kinetic typography that appears in title sequences of ten films produced by the Korean entertainment industry in 2012. Production techniques are analyzed in a variety of ways in order to predict the future direction of opening title sequences, as well as present aesthetic and technical models for their creation.

영화 007 시리즈의 Title Sequence에 나타난 디자인 표현특성에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study was to analyze 21 opening title sequences of the 007 series films or the high-end spy films popular world-wide and thereby, examine how the clues to the entire film story were expressed as `visual codes` and how they were applied and expressed as formative elements and thereupon, confirm importance of the title sequences as formative expression of the film. The scope of the study was limited to 21 title sequences of the film `007 Series` produced from 1962 till 2006. In terms of contents and methods of study, the researcher analyzed the themes of the title sequences, the years of their productions, title designers and visual images and thereupon, attempted to find some connotative key works whereby the expressive meanings and formative principles of the narratives could be tabulated and thereby, drew some conclusions. As a result, the epic expression of the title sequences was found to be characterized by 1) communication of the story through symbolic metaphors and 2) linkage of the story using women`s curved body lines. On the other hand, the visual expression of the title sequences was characterized by 1) integrated formative images centered about repeated unity and 2) artistic expressiveness using lights, colors and spaces. Lastly, it is hoped that this study will be followed up by future studies which will analyze development of the film title sequences.
