Vol.14 No.1

Recently, energy and environment problems are serious all over the world. Therefore, environmental conferences in international society have held on Rio de Janeiro from UNCED in 1992 upward (United Nations Conference on Environment and Development) for countermeasure of environmental matters. Such developed countries as United States, Japan, Canada and British are to take effect building performance certification criteria what is certification system of environment for promotion in aspects of Green Buildings. Korea is enforcing Green Building Certification Criteria (GBCC) for multi-unit residential building, mixed-use dwellings, office and school. And now GBCCs for stores and accommodations are under development. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze about standards and assessment of certification systems which are LEED in USGBC since 1993 in United States, BREEAM since 1991 in United Kindom, CASBEE in Japan and GBCC of KGBC in state-run organization since 2002 and ``Environment-friendly Building Guidelines`` of Seoul to be recently driven. This study shows that sevaral fators, such as environtmantal management, pedestrian safety, urban scape and ennergy operation system, are considered Korean Green Building Certification Criteria. In addition, GBCC is needed to improve scoring system and ranking system by considering developed countries cases Higher score in energy section.

Vol.31 No.7

As the concerns for the environment are gradually prioritized, increasing interests of environment-friendly buildings are drawn. Numerous researches about healthcare buildings have been performed however, they were mainly focused on convenience or healing condition for medical treatments. The hospitals consume energy and generate CO2 as twice as the residential or commercial buildings do. Various green building certification systems are globally arranged. But, it isn"t easy to find certification criteria for the green hospital besides the US and UK"s ones which are specially designed to evaluate environment-friendly medical buildings(Lim & Yoo, 2010). In this study, we investigates current conditions of Tokyo Regional hospitals in environment-friendly standpoint and also investigates the foreign certification criteria and systems for the green healthcare building and finds the possibility to apply them to Korean Green Building Certification. Flexibility of architectural design compatible to renovation and expansion of the hospital, barrier-free design, and hospital design related to the healing environment should be mostly considered to the Korean Green Building Certification for healthcare facilities. It is because the goal of environment-friendly hospital is depended upon of quality of healing-friendly environment. Based on this analysis, Korean Green Building Certification for healthcare facilities will be developed in near future.

Vol.29 No.6

Current issues of ‘Sustainability’ seem to seek the technical values and focused on the energy reduction. ‘Sustainable architecture’ is distinguished to limited meanings of ‘environmentally friendly architecture’, ‘eco-friendly architecture’, or ‘green architecture’. Sustainable architecture involves a combination of values : aesthetic, environmental, social, political, and moral. It’s about using one’s imagination and technical knowledge to engage in central aspect of the practice - designing and building in harmony with our environment. Unlike certification system of green building, the sustainable architecture guidelines suggests both development of advanced technologies and sustainable thoughts which induce changing patterns of our behaviour. This study is based on the sustainable ethics encouraging moral responsibility toward current reckless energy consumption. The citizenship of sustainable society could be achieved when these ideas are naturally embraced. The guideline involves life cycle strategy from planning to demolition, convergence of sustainable technologies and ideas, and environmental friendly solution of both city and architecture.

Vol.33 No.9

A healthcare facility is an excessive energy-consuming facility for public use, especially for patients, thus it should consider various factors in terms of its functionality, medical care, and environment. However, Korean Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design(G-SEED) has no separate assessment scheme for healthcare. Based on assessment criteria and requirements for healthcare facility extracted from BREEAM and LEED, a survey was conducted to evaluate the contents’ suitability by medical staff. Based on the result, assessment criteria of healthcare for G-SEED will be proposed. This research is significant for it is the first research focused on opinions of medical staff, whereas previous researches were done with architectural professionals only. There are two types of extracted contents. The first one is special content only applicable to healthcare and the other one is differentiated content from the other building types. Five point likert scale method and multi-response method was used for the survey. In the survey result of healthcare-only contents, operational waste, PBT source reduction, infection control, thermal comfort, and indoor air quality were regarded as the most important contents, while direct exterior access and cyclist facilities received the lowest scores. Differentiated contents that received the highest score were in Indoor Environment category.
