In the present study, the separation of gold ions from simulated gold leaching solution was performed by selective adsorption of gold ions onto the magnetite. The adsorption efficiency of gold ions increased in neutral pH with increasing agitation speed, temperature, and amount of magnetite added. All of the gold ions were completely adsorbed within 6 h under the following conditions: gold ion concentration 100 mg/L, NaCl concentration 0.1 mol/L, magnetite addition 3.6%, pH 6-8, agitation speed 150 rpm, and temperature 90°C. When gold ions exist with copper and nickel ions, 96% of gold ions are adsorbed onto magnetite particles while the low adsorption of copper and nickel ions was observed, which indicates that selective adsorption of gold ions could be achieved. The efficiency of the separation process would be enhanced by avoiding clogging of screen because the magnetite particles with gold ions on them could be separated by magnetic separation processes.

This study was carried out to develop an efficient process abating high NO concentration. A hybrid process of selective catalytic reduction(SCR) and activated carbon fiber(ACF) adsorption was newly designed and tested. Used ACF in NO adsorption was regenerated by simultaneously applying heat and vacuum. The result of ACF regeneration was far superior in the desorption condition at 140℃ and vacuum 600 mmHg. A commercial catalyst was used at the conditions of reaction temperature at 300℃, NH₃/NO mole ratio = 1.0 for SCR process. NO evolved from ACF regeneration reactor could be removed by SCR reactor up to 98%. But high concentration of NO was exhausted from SCR reactor for one minute when the flue gas of NO 300 ppm and desorbed NO from ACF regeneration were simultaneously treated by the same SCR reactor. Therefore, it is necessary to use additional small sized SCR reactor or to increase NH₃ concentration for a short time along with NO concentration rather than to mix flue gas with the gas evolving from ACF regeneration at fixed NH₃ inlet concentration. The hybrid process of SCR and ACF showed high NO removal efficiency over 80% at any time courses. Through the repeated cycles, stable DeNOx efficiency was maintained, indicating that the hybrid process would be a good countermeasure to the spotaneously high NO concentration instead of increasing the SCR capacity.

This basic study is focused on the chemical removal method of carbon dioxide from the decomposition of ammonium carbarmate to prevent recombination of ammonium salts. Soda lime, which is widely used for medical, military, and safety purpose, is selected owing to the absorbent nature of carbon dioxide. Using ammonia gas and carbon dioxide gas to simulate the decomposition phenomena for ammonium carbarmate, the effects of CO₂ adsorption characteristics for soda lime are investigated in this study. To analyze CO₂ adsorption performance of soda lime in detail, several samples in powder and pellet state with normal, free-flow, and pressurized conditions are made for TGA.

In order to reduce harmful gas, such as NOx, in diesel engine, urea water solution(UWS) is injected in front of SCR catalyst. UWS injection is controlled to be fully converted to NH₃ in consideration of exhaust gas temperature and NOx amount. However, due to the local concentration of the injected UWS and the miss injection due to the rapidly varying exhaust gas flow, a considerable amount of urea is adsorbed to the SCR monolith channel. The adsorbed urea is solidified by the high temperature exhaust gas and hydrolysis, reducing the effective flow area, and becomes an medium of heat conduction to increase the heat loss of the SCR catalyst. Therefore, In this study, in order to analyze the heat loss by the adsorbed urea, 3D CFD analysis is performed over single SCR monolith channel by using ANSYS Fluent v19.1 code. And experimentally measured temperature is applied as a time-space profile to consider actual ambient temperature variation of the SCR catalyst. As a result, the heat flux of plugged condition 1, in which urea adsorption occurs as the inlet of the 1st monolith channel, decreased to about 12.85% at 5.0 sec compare to the normal condition, and the heat flux of plugged condition 2, in which urea adsorption occurred in the center of the 1st monolith channel, decreased to abount 49.97% at 5.0 sec compare to the normal condition. In conclusion, the heat losses of plugged condition 1 and plugged condition 2 were increased about 89.86% and 59.50% respectively, compared to the normal conditions at 50.0 sec.
