Synchronous tele-ultrasonography is helpful for a naive operator to perform high-quality thyroid ultrasound examinations

        Xiao-Long Li,Yi-Kang Sun,Qiao Wang,Zi-Tong Chen,Zhe-Bin Qian,Le-Hang Guo,Hui-Xiong Xu 대한초음파의학회 2022 ULTRASONOGRAPHY Vol.41 No.4

Purpose: This study investigated the value of synchronous tele-ultrasonography (TUS) for naive operators in thyroid ultrasonography (US) examinations. Methods: Ninety-seven patients were included in this prospective, parallel-controlled trial. Thyroid scanning and diagnosis were completed by resident A independently, resident B with guidance from a US expert through synchronous TUS, and an on-site US expert. The on-site expert’s findings constituted the reference standard. Two other off-site US experts analyzed all data in a blind manner. Inter-operator consistency between the two residents and the on-site US expert for thyroid size measurements, nodule measurements, nodule features, American College of Radiology (ACR) Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) categories, and image quality was compared. Two questionnaires were completed to evaluate the clinical benefit. Results: Resident B detected more nodules consistent with the on-site expert than resident A did (89.4% vs. 56.5%, P<0.001). Resident B achieved excellent consistency with the on-site expert in terms of ACR TI-RADS categories, nodule composition, shape, echogenic foci, and vascularity (all intra-class correlation coefficients [ICCs] >0.75), while resident A achieved lower consistency in ACR TI-RADS categories, composition, echogenicity, margin, echogenic foci, and vascularity (all ICCs 0.40-0.75). Residents A and B had excellent consistency in target nodule measurements (all ICCs >0.75). Resident B achieved better performance than resident A for gray values, time gain compensation, depth, color Doppler adjustment, and the visibility of key information (all P<0.05). Furthermore, 61.9% (60/97) of patients accepted synchronous TUS, and 59.8% (58/97) patients were willing to pay for it.Conclusion: Synchronous TUS can help inexperienced residents achieve comparable thyroid diagnostic capability to a US expert.

Cloning and expression pattern of odorant receptor 11 in Asian honeybee drones, Apis cerana (Hymenoptera, Apidae)

        Jun Feng Liu,Le Yang,Mang Li,Xu Jiang He,Zi-long Wang,Zhijiang Zeng 한국응용곤충학회 2019 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.22 No.1

Odorant receptors play a crucial role in the special recognition of scent molecules in the honeybee olfaction system. The odorant receptor 11 (AmOR11) in western honeybee drones (Apis mellifera) has been demonstrated to specifically bind to 9-oxo-2-decenoic acid (9-ODA) of queens. However, little is known regarding the functions of OR11 Asian honeybee drones (Apis cerana) in the context of their mating activities. In this study, the odorant receptor 11 gene (AcOr11) from A. cerana was cloned, and its expression profiles were examined during two developmental stages (immature and sexually mature) and different physiological statuses (flying and crawling). The cDNA sequence of AcOr11 was highly similar to that of AmOr11, and encoded a membrane-coupled protein of 384 amino acids. The results of qRT-PCR indicated that AcOr11 was expressed at higher levels in drone antennae compared to brains, and the expression was significantly up-regulated in sexually mature drone brains compared to immature brains. Interestingly, AcOr11 expression in brains of mature flying drones was dramatically higher than those of mature crawling drones. To our knowledge, this study demonstrate a link between AcOr11 gene expression in the brain of honeybee drones and behavior associated with sexual maturity and mating flight.

Combining Model-based and Heuristic Techniques for Fast Tracking the Global Maximum Power Point of a Photovoltaic String

        Shi, Ji-Ying,Xue, Fei,Ling, Le-Tao,Li, Xiao-Fei,Qin, Zi-Jian,Li, Ya-Jing,Yang, Ting The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.2

Under partial shading conditions (PSCs), multiple maximums may be exhibited on the P-U curve of string inverter photovoltaic (PV) systems. Under such conditions, heuristic methods are invalid for extracting a global maximum power point (GMPP); intelligent algorithms are time-consuming; and model-based methods are complex and costly. To overcome these shortcomings, a novel hybrid MPPT (MPF-IP&O) based on a model-based peak forecasting (MPF) method and an improved perturbation and observation (IP&O) method is proposed. The MPF considers the influence of temperature and does not require solar radiation measurements. In addition, it can forecast all of the peak values of the PV string without complex computation under PSCs, and it can determine the candidate GMPP after a comparison. Hence, the MPF narrows the searching range tremendously and accelerates the convergence to the GMPP. Additionally, the IP&O with a successive approximation strategy searches for the real GMPP in the neighborhood of the candidate one, which can significantly enhance the tracking efficiency. Finally, simulation and experiment results show that the proposed method has a higher tracking speed and accuracy than the perturbation and observation (P&O) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) methods under PSCs.

      • Economic Impact of Modern Energy Infrastructures Investments on the Regional Economic Growth of Guangdong Province in China

Tzu Yu Lin,Sheng Hsiung Chiu,Zi Le Li 한국유통과학회 2017 KODISA ICBE (International Conference on Business Vol.2017 No.-

In this paper, we built the Guangdong’s regional input-output model, with an inter-industry linkage to evaluate the impact of modern energy infrastructure on regional economic growth during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. We analyzed the economic impact of increased governmental and industrial spending on infrastructure projects. An overview of the Leontief I-O model employed in this paper was presented in Section 2. In Section 3 we demonstrated the economic effect of static I-O analysis of renewable energy infrastructures investment from the policy-planning perspective. The policy simulation result of the input-output model in this paper could be seen as the maximal possible economic outcome in the period from 2016 to 2020, in which low-carbon power plants construction will add roughly 4% of gross domestic products of Guangdong annually. One of the advantages of Leontief input-output model is its ability to assess the possible maximum economic benefits in the short-run. As we have seen, the energy engineering infrastructure investment has increased the final demand of other related manufacturing sectors whose obligation is to accomplish infrastructure construction.

Dual-Algorithm Maximum Power Point Tracking Control Method for Photovoltaic Systems based on Grey Wolf Optimization and Golden-Section Optimization

        Shi, Ji-Ying,Zhang, Deng-Yu,Ling, Le-Tao,Xue, Fei,Li, Ya-Jing,Qin, Zi-Jian,Yang, Ting The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.3

This paper presents a dual-algorithm search method (GWO-GSO) combining grey wolf optimization (GWO) and golden-section optimization (GSO) to realize maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for photovoltaic (PV) systems. First, a modified grey wolf optimization (MGWO) is activated for the global search. In conventional GWO, wolf leaders possess the same impact on decision-making. In this paper, the decision weights of wolf leaders are automatically adjusted with hunting progression, which is conducive to accelerating hunting. At the later stage, the algorithm is switched to GSO for the local search, which play a critical role in avoiding unnecessary search and reducing the tracking time. Additionally, a novel restart judgment based on the quasi-slope of the power-voltage curve is introduced to enhance the reliability of MPPT systems. Simulation and experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can track the global maximum power point (MPP) swiftly and reliably with higher accuracy under various conditions.
