Dandelion (Taraxacum mongolicum Hand.‑Mazz.) suppresses the decrease in physical strength and exercise capacity caused by insufficient liver function

Zhang Yinglong,Li Bo,Wu Guangliang 한국응용생명화학회 2022 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.65 No.6

In this study, D-galactose was used to establish a model of liver dysfunction caused by oxidative stress in mice, and the effect of dandelion on improving the exercise capacity of mice with liver dysfunction was observed and its mechanism was expounded. This study examined the role and mechanism of dandelion in improving running ability, swimming endurance, blood biochemical indices, histopathological changes, and tissue mRNA expression changes. The animal results showed that dandelion extended the running and swimming time to exhaustion in liver dysfunctional mice, reduced the serum levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), blood lactic acid (BLA) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver, and increased hepatic glycogen (HG) and muscle glycogen (MG) levels as well as uperoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities. Histopathological observations suggested that dandelion alleviated lesions in the liver. The quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) analysis results showed that dandelion downregulated inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) mRNA expression and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), copper/zinc-superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), manganese-superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), and catalase (CAT) expression in the liver and skeletal muscle of the liver-dysfunctional mice. In contrast, dandelion downregulated syncytin-1 mRNA expression in skeletal muscle of mice with a dysregulated liver. The positional analysis showed that the main components of dandelion were gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, rutin, myricitrin, isoquercitrin, isochlorogenic acid A, and luteolin.

Effect of lemon peel flavonoids on anti-fatigue and anti-oxidation capacities of exhaustive exercise mice

Bao Guili,Zhang Yinglong,Yang Xiaoguang 한국응용생명화학회 2020 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.63 No.6

In this study, lemon peel flavonoids (LPF) were administered to investigate its effect on the anti-fatigue and antioxidant capacity of mice that undergo exercise until exhaustion. LPF (88.36 min in LPFH group mice) significantly increased the exhaustion swimming time compare to the untreated mice (40.36 min), increased the liver glycogen and free fatty acid content in mice and reduce lactic acid and BUN content in a dose-dependent manner. As the concentration of lemon peel flavonoids increased, the serum creatine kinase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase levels of mice gradually decreased. LPF increases superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) levels in mice and reduces malondialdehyde levels in a dose-dependent manner. And LPF raises hepatic tissue SOD, CAT activities and reduces skeletal muscle tissue iNOS, TNF-α levels of mice compared to the control group. LPF also enhanced the expression of copper/zinc-superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), manganese-superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), and CAT mRNA in mouse liver tissue. LPF also enhanced the expression of alanine/serine/cysteine/threonine transporter 1 (ASCT1) mRNA and attenuate the expression of syncytin-1, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in mouse skeletal muscle. According to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis, it was found that LPF contains flavonoids such as rutin, astragalin, isomangiferin, naringin, and quercetin. Our experimental data show that LPF has good anti-fatigue effects and anti-oxidation ability. In summary, LPF has high prospects to be developed and added to nutritional supplements.

ox-LDL regulates proliferation and apoptosis in VSMCs by controlling the miR-183-5p/FOXO1

        Fan Mingqiang,Huang Yinglong,Li Kunsheng,Yang Xiangxiang,Bai Jing,Si Qiaoke,Peng Zhengfei,Jia Chunwen,Zhang Qiangnu,Tao Ding 한국유전학회 2022 Genes & Genomics Vol.44 No.6

Background: microRNA-mRNA axes that are involved in oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) proliferation/apoptosis imbalance need to be further investigated. Objective: To investigate the functional role of miR-183-5p/FOXO1 in VSMCs and its interaction with ox-LDL. Methods: RNA sequencing was used to detect transcriptome changes of VSMCs treated with ox-LDL. miR-183-5p and FOXO1 expression levels in VSMCs after ox-LDL treatment were assessed using qRT-PCR and western blotting. The regulatory effect of miR-183-5p on FOXO1 has been tried to prove using a dual-luciferase reporter assay. The functions of miR-183-5p, and FOXO1 were analyzed by CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry assay. The tissue samples or serum samples of high fat-feeding mice and carotid atherosclerosis patients were collected, and the levels of miR-183-5p/FOXO1 were analyzed. Results: RNA sequencing data showed 81 miRNAs including miR-183-5p was significantly changed after ox-LDL treatment in VSMCs. FOXO1, a miR-183-5p's potential target, was also down-regulated in ox-LDL treated cells. qRT-PCR and western blot found that expression of FOXO1 mRNA and protein significantly reduced in VSMCs treated with ox-LDL, accompanied by overexpression of miR-183-5p. miR-183-5p inhibited FOXO1 mRNA by binding to its 3' UTR. Interference miR-183-5p/FOXO1 could change proliferation/apoptosis imbalance in VSMCs under ox-LDL stimulation. Higher levels of miR-183-5p but reduced FOXO1 can be found in the thoracic aorta tissues of high fat-feeding mice. In serum samples from individuals with carotid atherosclerosis, Higher levels of miR-183-5p were observed. the miR-183-5p level was positively related to the level of serum ox-LDL in patients. Conclusions: Aberrant expression of miR-183-5p/FOXO1 pathway mediated ox-LDL-induced proliferation/apoptosis imbalance in VSMCs. The miR-183-5p/FOXO1 axis can potentially be utilized as the target in the treatment of patients with atherosclerosis.

Modeling and Performance Analysis of MAC Protocol for WBAN with Finite Buffer

( Minglei Shu ),( Dongfeng Yuan ),( Changfang Chen ),( Yinglong Wang ),( Chongqing Zhang ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.11

The IEEE 802.15.6 standard is introduced to satisfy all the requirements for monitoring systems operating in, on, or around the human body. In this paper, analytical models are developed for evaluating the performance of the IEEE 802.15.6 CSMA/CA-based medium access control protocol for wireless body area networks (WBAN) under unsaturation condition. We employ a three-dimensional Markov chain to model the backoff procedure, and an M/G/1/K queuing system to describe the packet queues in the buffer. The throughput and delay performances of WBAN operating in the beacon mode are analyzed in heterogeneous network comprised of different user priorities. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed analytical model.

        Development of a 97.5-inch Super Hi-Vision 8K × 4K liquid crystal display panel

        Yanping Liao,Xibin Shao,Jianfeng Yuan,Xiqing Zhang,Ji Zhang,Changlin Leng,Yinglong Huang,Seongkuy Lee 한국정보디스플레이학회 2015 Journal of information display Vol.16 No.3

A prototype 97.5-inch 8K×4K a-Si liquid crystal display (LCD) panel for Super Hi-Vision with ultra-high definition was successfully developed using the BOE exclusive advanced super-dimensional switching technology. This LCD has a panel with 7680(×3) by 4320 pixels, 16 times those of the conventional Full High Definition (FHD), and the pixel size of the panel is 0.2811mm (90.4 pixels per inch). The liquid crystal charging time was extended by quad area and double source line structure (also called “2G2D driving”). Additionally, a multi-functional image-processing video board was developed to compatibly realize the real-time display of huge image data from FHD to 8K. Furthermore, the reason for the arcing that occurred in half-tone source–drain mask etching was discussed and was ultimately solved by improving the exposure process. The demonstrated panel features a 1200:1 contrast ratio, 500 nit brightness, and 72% color gamut.

      • Critical coupling strength of the Cucker-Smale model for flocking

Ha, Seung-Yeal,Ko, Dongnam,Zhang, Yinglong World Scientific Publishing Company 2017 MATHEMATICAL MODELS & METHODS IN APPLIED SCIENCES Vol.27 No.6

We present a non-trivial positive lower bound for the critical coupling strength of the Cucker-Smale model with a short-range communication weight from the viewpoint of mono-cluster (global) flocking. For a long-range communication weight, it is well known [F. Cucker and S. Smale, Emergent behavior in flocks, IEEE Trans. Automat. Control52 (2007) 852-862; S.-Y. Ha and J.-G. Liu, A proof of Cucker-Smale flocking dynamics and mean field limit, Commun. Math. Sci.7 (2009) 297-325] that as long as the coupling strength is positive, mono-cluster flocking occurs asymptotically for any initial configuration. Hence, the critical coupling strength is simply zero. However, for a short-range communication weight, numerical simulations indicate that for a given initial configuration, mono-cluster flocking is possible only in a large-coupling-strength regime depending on the initial configuration. This suggests the positivity of the critical coupling strength in the sense that if the coupling strength is above the critical value, mono-cluster flocking emerges, whereas if it is below the critical value, mono-cluster flocking does not occur. Thus, it is interesting to determine the exact critical value for the coupling strength depending on the initial configuration or at least to estimate the possible range of the coupling strength. In this paper, we show that the critical coupling strength exists and is positive by providing a positive lower bound. We also present the results of several numerical simulations for the upper and lower bounds of the critical coupling strength depending on the initial configurations, and we compare them with analytical results.

Time-asymptotic interactions of two ensembles of Cucker-Smale flocking particles

Ha, Seung-Yeal,Ko, Dongnam,Zhang, Xiongtao,Zhang, Yinglong American Institute of Physics 2017 Journal of mathematical physics Vol.58 No.7

We study the time-asymptotic interactions of two ensembles of Cucker-Smale flocking particles. For this, we use a coupled hydrodynamic Cucker-Smale system and discuss two frameworks, leading to mono-cluster and bi-cluster flockings asymptotically depending on initial configurations, coupling strengths, and the far-field decay property of communication weights. Under the proposed two frameworks, we show that mono-cluster and bi-cluster flockings emerge asymptotically exponentially fast and algebraically slow, respectively. Our asymptotic analysis uses the Lyapunov functional approach and a Lagrangian formulation of the coupled system. Published by AIP Publishing.
