Calculation of an Indicator for Early Death Using Atomic Bomb Survivors’ Data
Sasaki Michiya,Fujimichi Yuki,Yoshida Kazuo,Iwasaki Toshiyasu 대한방사선방어학회 2022 방사선방어학회지 Vol.47 No.1
Background: A comprehensive, traceable, and easy-to-understand radiation risk indicator is desired for radiological protection. The early-onset hypothesis could be used for this purpose.Materials and Methods: An indicator for early death (IED) was developed and calculated using the epidemiological dataset from the 14th Report of the Life Span Study (LSS) of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. By clarifying the calculation process, IED for all-cause mortality was estimated. In addition, the characteristics of IED for solid cancer mortality and cardiovascular mortality as well as those of men and women, and their dependence on age at exposure were investigated for detailed analysis. Results and Discussion: The IED for all-cause mortality was estimated to be approximately 4 years for an acute radiation exposure of 1 Gy regardless of the fitting dose range. The cumulative death rate for all solid cancers also indicated the early-death tendency (approximately 7–10 years at 1 Gy). Although, there is a slight difference in the characteristics of the risk obtained from the LSS study and this study, it is considered that the IED in a unit of years can also be used to show the overall picture of risk due to radiation exposure. Conclusion: We developed and calculated the indicator for early death, IED, for the cumulative mortality rate of all causes of death, all solid cancers, and circulatory diseases. The quantitative values of IED were estimated to be 4 years for all causes of death, 7–10 years for all solid cancers. IED has an advantage for intuitively understanding the meaning of radiation risk since it can be obtained by a simple and traceable method.
Oil Pump Rotor without Machining Treatment
Kanou Yuki,Sasaki Masao,Hosono Katsuaki 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1
Oil Pump rotor is essential parts for automobile and, it is consisted of drive rotor and driven rotor in general. These parts are requested different properties according to environment. There are 2 types of Oil Pump rotor according to its usage. One is used for electric system, and the other is used for shaft-driven system. Especially, high precision and functionality is required in electric pump, and cost reduction is required in shaft-drive pump without slowing down its performance. This paper is mainly describing about the non-machine treated shaft-drive pump, based on the trial sample producing process.

Gastric adenocarcinoma of the fundic gland mucosa type (GA-FGM) was proposed as a new variant of gastric adenocarcinoma of the fundic gland type (GA-FG). However, at present, the influence of Helicobacter pylori and the speed of progression and degree of malignancy in GA-FGM remain unclear. Herein, we report the first case of intramucosal GA-FGM that was endoscopically observed before and after H. pylori eradication over 15 years. The lesion showed the same tumor size with no submucosal invasion and a low MIB-1 labeling index 15 years after its detection using endoscopy. The endoscopic morphology changed from 0-IIa before H. pylori eradication to 0-IIa+IIc and then 0-I after H. pylori eradication. These findings suggest that the unaltered tumor size reflects low-grade malignancy and slow growth, and that the endoscopic morphology is influenced by H. pylori eradication.

Since the discovery of the first strain in 1961 in England, MRSA, the most notorious multidrug-resistant hospital pathogen, has spread all over the world. MRSA repeatedly turned down the challenges by number of chemotherapeutics, the fruits of modern organic chemistry. Now, we are in short of effective therapeutic agents against MRSA prevailing among immuno-compromised patients in the hospital. On top of this, we recently became aware of the rise of diverse clones of MRSA, some of which have increased pathogenic potential compared to the classical hospital-associated MRSA, and the others from veterinary sources. They increased rapidly in the community, and started menacing otherwise healthy individuals by causing unexpected acute infection. This review is intended to provide a whole picture of MRSA based on its genetic makeup as a versatile pathogen and our tenacious colonizer.
Precise performance characterization of perovskite solar cells
Yoshihiro Hishikawa,Haruya Shimura,Takashi Ueda,Ayumi Sasaki,Yuki Ishii 한국물리학회 2016 Current Applied Physics Vol.16 No.8
Experimental procedure for precisely characterizing the performance of perovskite solar cells such as the current-voltage (I-V) curves and the maximum output power Pmax is investigated, based on results of the samples with different structures. Special care is taken for the hysteresis effects. Confirming the hysteresis of the I-V curves in a wide range including the timescale of minutes is preferred for precise measurements, since the hysteresis remains for more than 10 min in some samples. When the hysteresis is persistent even for a long sweep time, the stable Pmax can be determined by examining the temporal trend of the output current by fixing the bias voltage at near Vpm after forward and reverse bias histories.
Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis after living-donor liver transplantation

Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis (SEP), or abdominal cocoon is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction, and still etiology remains unknown. We report a series of 4 patients with abdominal cocoon, and all the 4 patients had previously undergone living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT). There was no evidence of SEP before and during LDLT. At the time of diagnosis of SEP, 3 out of 4 patients had ascites. First and fourth patients had multiple episodes or attacks of cholangitis, which were managed by percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage and hepaticojejunostomy, respectively. All 4 patients presented with intestinal obstruction and 3 of them underwent a successful operation. The fourth patient died due to liver failure and complications of the SEP. The first 3 patients are doing well without SEP recurrence. Our experience suggest that the prognosis of SEP is poor in patients with poor graft liver functions after LDLT.

<P>Glycosylation is an important mechanism of controlling the reactivities and bioactivities of plant secondary metabolites and phytohormones. Rice (<I>Oryza sativa</I>) Os9BGlu31 is a glycoside hydrolase family GH1 transglycosidase that acts to transfer glucose between phenolic acids, phytohormones, and flavonoids. The highest activity was observed with the donors feruloyl-glucose, 4-coumaroyl-glucose, and sinapoyl-glucose, which are known to serve as donors in acyl and glucosyl transfer reactions in the vacuole, where Os9BGlu31 is localized. The free acids of these compounds also served as the best acceptors, suggesting that Os9BGlu31 may equilibrate the levels of phenolic acids and carboxylated phytohormones and their glucoconjugates. The Os9BGlu31 gene is most highly expressed in senescing flag leaf and developing seed and is induced in rice seedlings in response to drought stress and treatment with phytohormones, including abscisic acid, ethephon, methyljasmonate, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, and kinetin. Although site-directed mutagenesis of Os9BGlu31 indicated a function for the putative catalytic acid/base (Glu169), catalytic nucleophile residues (Glu387), and His386, the wild type enzyme displays an unusual lack of inhibition by mechanism-based inhibitors of GH1 β-glucosidases that utilize a double displacement retaining mechanism.</P>
