The differences between copper sulfate and tribasic copper chloride on growth performance, redox status, deposition in tissues of pigs, and excretion in feces

        Zheng, Ping,Pu, Bei,Yu, Bing,He, Jun,Yu, Jie,Mao, Xiangbing,Luo, Yuheng,Luo, Junqiu,Huang, Zhiqing,Luo, Chenggui,Wang, Shaohui,Chen, Daiwen Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.6

Objective: The objective of this experiment was to compare the effects of adding 130 mg/kg Cu from either copper sulfate (CS) or tribasic copper chloride (TBCC) on growth performance, mineral deposition in tissues, and the excretion in feces of pigs as well as changes in the mineral contents in tissues and feces when the supplemental Cu level was decreased from 130 mg/kg to 10 mg/kg. Methods: A total of 72 pigs ($32.6{\pm}1.2kg$) were randomly assigned to a CS diet or a TBCC diet with 6 pens per treatment. The trial lasted 102 d and included 3 phases (phase 1, 1 to 30 d; phase 2, 31 to 81 d; and phase 3, 82 to 102 d). The supplemental levels of Cu in the 2 treatments were 130 mg/kg in phase 1 and 2 and 10 mg/kg in phase 3. Results: The results showed that pigs fed the CS diet tended to have higher average daily gain than pigs fed the TBCC diet during d 1 to 81 (p<0.10). Compared with CS, TBCC increased the activities of aspartate transaminase (AST), ceruloplasmin, and superoxide dismutase in serum on d 30 (p<0.05). The TBCC decreased the Cu level in the liver on d 81 (p<0.05) and increased the Mn level in the liver on d 102 (p<0.05). The concentration of Cu in feces sharply decreased when the supplemental Cu level in diet changed from 130 mg/kg to 10 mg/kg in both diets (p<0.05). Conclusion: The result suggested that TBCC and CS had no significant difference on growth performance but TBCC had higher activities of AST and antioxidant enzymes and lower liver Cu than CS when pigs fed diets with 130 mg Cu /kg diet.

Super-twisting sliding mode control with defined boundary layer for chattering reduction of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor

Lingwei Tan,Jian Gao,Yuheng Luo,Lanyu Zhang 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.5

The super-twisting algorithm (STA, a class of second-order sliding mode control (SOSMC)) is widely used in permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) systems for its least amount of information and simplest calculations among the SOSMC algorithms. Due to the discretization and sign function of the STA, the chattering problem may be induced. In this paper, we propose an STA method with a defined boundary layer (called δSTA) to further reduce chattering in high-precision positioning system. With the δSTA method, when the sliding variable crosses the zero point, the speed is adjusted via two different saturation functions, instead of discontinuous sign functions of the STA. The proposed control law was proven to be stable, ensuring the establishment of a second-order sliding mode. Both the simulation and experimental results showed that the proposed control scheme, with a defined boundary layer width, can improve the steady-state positioning accuracy and significantly reduce system chattering.

Leucine Protects Against Skeletal Muscle Atrophy in Lipopolysaccharide-Challenged Rats

        Jin Wan,Daiwen Chen,Bing Yu,Yuheng Luo,Xiangbing Mao,Ping Zheng,Jie Yu,Junqiu Luo,Jun He 한국식품영양과학회 2017 Journal of medicinal food Vol.20 No.1

Skeletal muscle atrophy is a decrease in muscle mass that occurs when protein degradation exceeds protein synthesis. Leucine (Leu), an essential branched-chain amino acid in animal nutrition, regulates skeletal muscle protein metabolism. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate whether Leu could alleviate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced skeletal muscle wasting by modulating skeletal muscle protein synthesis and degradation. A total of 24 rats were randomly allocated into three groups (n = 8): (1) non-challenged control; (2) LPS-challenged control; and (3) LPS +3.0% Leu. Rats were fed with control or Leu-supplemented (part of the casein was replaced with 3.0% Leu) diets throughout the trial and were injected intraperitoneally with sterile saline or LPS at days 6, 11, 16, and 21. On the morning of day 22, serum samples were collected and rats were then sacrificed for liver and muscle analysis. In vitro protein degradation, nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activity, and proteolytic enzyme activities of the muscles from immune-challenged rats were also measured. Our results showed that the LPS challenge resulted in not only enhanced serum interleukin-1 and liver C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations but also decreased the average daily body weight gain and muscle fiber diameter. However, dietary Leu inclusion attenuated the increase in CRP level and the decrease in muscle fiber diameter. Importantly, the LPS challenge caused a significant elevation in the muscle proteolysis rate, but dietary Leu supplementation significantly blocked the muscle proteolysis. The mRNA expression of NF-κB, muscle atrophy F-box (MAFbx), and muscle ring finger 1 (MuRF1) was upregulated by the LPS challenge in gastrocnemius muscles, but was downregulated by Leu supplementation. Interestingly, when muscles from the LPS-challenged rats were incubated with Leu in vitro, proteasome-, calpain-, and cathepsin-L-dependent muscle proteolysis and NF-κB activity were decreased. Collectively, the data suggest that Leu supplementation could inhibit excessive skeletal muscle degradation, as well as enhance protein synthesis and, thus, attenuate the negative effects caused by the LPS-induced immune challenge.
