        Spatio-temporal zonation by ichnocoenoses combined with sedimentary facies in the Yeochari tidal flat (Ganghwa Island), the Han River estuary of Korea

        Ichnocoenoses analyses supplemented with sedimentary facies analysis have been performed to identify seasonal patterns and ichnocoenoses distributions in the Yeochari tidal flats, the Ganghwa Island of Han-River estuary. The Yeochari intertidal flats can be divided into upper and middle tidal flats based on tide levels along a transect line. The latter flats can be further subdivided into higher and lower middle flats, and sand shoal, according to sedimentary facies, bioturbation index (BI), and distribution of ichnocoenoses. The upper tidal flats consist mainly of bioturbated muds with a dominant ichnocoenosis Psilonichnus, both in winter and summer, suggesting a stable environment in habitat conditions. The higher middle flats comprising alternating flaser and bioturbated sand-muds represent ichnocoenoses, Rosselia and Rhizocorallium, in winter and summer, respectively. In the lower middle flats, crossand parallel-laminated sand facies are dominant in winter, whereas, in summer, the alternating sand-mud facies with cross-laminated sands are predominant. The representative ichnocoenoses in the lower flats display Cylindrichnus, Scolicia and Echiurus burrows, which are commonly found in wave-dominated environments. However, Psilonichnus as well as mixed facies in summer indicate coexistence of tides with wave. No seasonal changes have been recognized in the outer sand shoals both in the ichno-characters and sedimentary facies. The dominant ichnocoenosis is cryptic bioturbation in the sand shoal, the ichnocoenosis being preserved in the wave-dominated sequences evidently in the lower middle flats of the Yeochari. Ichnocoenoses analysis in tidal-flat environments reveales that Rosselia, Rhizocorallium, Scolicia, Cylindrichnus and Echiurus are the key ichnocoenoses for identifying specific seasonal changes in sedimentation, and defining the middle intertidal flats and/or mixed tidal flats, commonly difficult to recognize by sedimentary facies alone. This study shows that ichnocoenosis analysis is a useful tool to characterize or define intertidal flats being subject to stark seasonal changes in sedimentation likely driven by the monsoon climate. More importantly, this may further provide a tool to differentiate between tideinfluenced and fully wave-dominated successions in ancient tidal-flat analogues.

        판매원 능력에 따른 의류 소비자의 쇼핑 성향이 쇼핑 가치에 미치는 영향

        최근 의류기업의 수익성이 매우 악화되어 기업 생존이 위협받고 있다. 이를 개선하기 위해서는 매출액 증대를 통한 수익기반의 경영이 필요하나 아직 이를 위한 구체적 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 의류기업의 수익성 개선에 필요한 판매원의 능력 측면을 연구하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 의류 소비자의 쇼핑 성향이 쇼핑 가치에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 판매과정에서 판매원의 능력 요소에 따른 쇼핑 성향과 쇼핑 가치 간의 영향 강도의 변동 여부를 조사하였다. 연구 목적의 달성을 위해 본 연구에서는 의류 쇼핑 성향의 분류체계를 선행연구 분석을 통해 구체화하고, 세부 쇼핑 성향과 개별 쇼핑 가치와의 영향관계 가설을 구조방정식 모형을 통해 분석하였으며, 판매원 능력의 조절효과는 조절 회귀분석을 통해 분석하였다. 그 결과, 실용적 쇼핑 가치는 경제형, 유희형, 대인관계형 등 3가지 쇼핑 성향에 의해 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 쾌락적 쇼핑 가치는 경제형, 유희형, 충동형 등 3가지 쇼핑 성향에 의해 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 의류 쇼핑 성향과 쇼핑 가치 간의 유의한 영향 관계를 중심으로 세부적 판매원 능력의 조절효과를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 실용적 쇼핑 가치에 대한 쇼핑 성향의 영향은 판매원 능력 중 고객서비스 요소만이 조절효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 쾌락적 쇼핑 가치에 대한 쇼핑 성향의 영향은 판매원 능력 중 고객서비스와 판매 요소 등 2가지 세부 판매원 능력이 조절효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구 결과에 따르면, 의류 쇼핑 성향의 세부 요소는 쇼핑 가치의 세부 요소에 차별적으로 영향을 미치며, 이의 개선은 판매원 능력의 세부 요소를 통해 가능하다. 따라서 의류 쇼핑몰의 인력관리자는 판매원의 고객서비스와 판매 능력 측면의 제고를 통해 소비자의 쇼핑 가치를 높이도록 하는 판매원 교육프로그램을 수립하여야 할 것이다. This study investigated whether or not shopping orientation influences shopping value and the influence relationship strengths between them are moderated by a salesperson’s ability. This study established a shopping orientation typology through the previous papers of apparel shopping orientation typology. The influence relationships between apparel shopping orientation and shopping value and the variation possibility of those relationships’ strengths were hypothesized. The research hypotheses were analyzed by the structural equational modelling and moderated regression analysis. According to analysis results, the research hypotheses were partially accepted. Among shopping orientation types, economic, joyful, and interpersonal shopping orientation types significantly affected utilitarian shopping value. Also, economic, joyful, and impulsive shopping orientation types significantly affected hedonic shopping value. The strengths of these influence relationships were moderated by the dimensions of a salesperson’s ability such as customer service and sales. Therefore, it was identified that shopping orientation affected shopping value and their impact strengths were moderated by the dimensions of a salesperson’s ability. To increase the sales volumes, the managers of apparel shopping malls should establish a training program to cultivate the dimensions of a salesperson’s ability such as customer service and sales ability.

        Seismic reflection imaging of Quaternary faulting offshore the southeastern Korean Peninsula

        The Yangsan Fault System (YFS) is a dominating tectonic structure in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. The YFS consists of NNE-striking dextral strike-slip faults that are traced to the southeastern coast of the Korean Peninsula. We acquired high-resolution seismic profiles offshore the southeastern Korean Peninsula to investigate how the YFS extends offshore and constrain the age of fault activity using stratigraphic interpretation. The seismic profiles image near-vertical faults trending NE to NNE that constitute a fault zone similar to a duplex structure at a releasing bend of a right-lateral strike-slip fault. The faults are interpreted as an offshore extension of the Ilgwang fault that is a member of the YFS. Stratigraphic interpretation of seismic profiles indicates that the offshore faults were activated repeatedly in the Pliocene and Quaternary. The right-lateral activity of the Ilgwang fault is consistent with the current stress regime in and around the southeastern Korean Peninsula that dictates the P-axis direction in the E-W or ENE-WSW since the Pliocene.

      • Direct transcriptional regulation of <i>Six6</i> is controlled by SoxB1 binding to a remote forebrain enhancer

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Six6, a <I>sine oculis</I> homeobox protein, plays a crucial and conserved role in the development of the forebrain and eye. To understand how the expression of <I>Six6</I> is regulated during embryogenesis, we screened ∼250kb of genomic DNA encompassing the <I>Six6</I> locus for <I>cis</I>-regulatory elements capable of directing reporter gene expression to sites of <I>Six6</I> transcription in transgenic mouse embryos. Here, we describe two novel enhancer elements, that are highly conserved in vertebrate species and whose activities recapitulate <I>Six6</I> expression in the ventral forebrain and eye, respectively. Cross-species comparisons of the <I>Six6</I> forebrain enhancer sequences revealed highly conserved binding sites matching the consensus for homeodomain and SoxB1 transcription factors. Deletion of either of the binding sites resulted in loss of the forebrain enhancer activity in the ventral forebrain. Moreover, our studies show that members of the <I>SoxB1</I> family, including <I>Sox2</I> and <I>Sox3</I>, are expressed in the overlapping region of the ventral forebrain with <I>Six6</I> and can bind to the <I>Six6</I> forebrain enhancer. Loss of function of <I>SoxB1</I> genes <I>in vivo</I> further emphasizes their role in regulating <I>Six6</I> forebrain enhancer activity. Thus, our data strongly suggest that SoxB1 transcription factors are direct activators of <I>Six6</I> expression in the ventral forebrain.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► We identify regulatory elements to control <I>Six6</I> expression in the ventral forebrain and eye. ► The forebrain <I>Six6</I> enhancer is dependent on homeodomain and SoxB1 binding sites. ► SoxB1 binds and activates the <I>Six6</I> forebrain enhancer. ► <I>SoxB1</I> mutants fail to activate <I>Six6</I> transcription in the ventral forebrain.</P>
