Antiferromagnetic Phase Transition of K-Rb Alloy Nanoclusters Incorporated in Sodalite
Takehito Nakano,Yuko Ishida,Atsufumi Hanazawa,Yasuo Nozue 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12
We prepared Rb-rich K-Rb alloy nanoclusters arrayed in the regular nanospace of aluminosilicatesodalite which has a bcc arrangement of cages. The average chemical formula of the cluster is(K1.5Rb2.5)3+, where one unpaired s-electron is shared by four alkali cations and is confined in acage. The magnetic susceptibility and the electron spin resonance clearly show an antiferromagneticphase transition at a N´eel temperature TN of approximately 90 - 100 K. The observed TNis higher than that in K3+4 (TN = 72 K) and (K3Rb)3+ clusters (TN = 80 K) in sodalites. Thisresult indicates a systematic enhancement of the antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between theadjacent nanoclusters by substituting Rb atoms for K ones. The size and the spatial distributionof the s-electron wave function in the nanocluster play a key role in the exchange coupling.

Pyrolysis-gas chromatography (Py-GC) in the presence of organic alkali of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) was applied to characterize the polyphenol fragments with a carbonyl group causing different magnitude of photoyellowing in chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP) papers. Two different origin of CTMP papers prepared from different individuals of Eucalyptus globulus trees showing high and low yellowing after photo-irradiation was compared before photo-irradiation. As a result, 7 peaks assigned to a series of phenol compounds with a carbonyl group, derived mainly from lignin, gave significant amount of phenol compounds with a carbonyl group for the paper sample of latent high yellowing, i.e., butoxy- and syringaldehyde, butoxy- and syringylacetone, butoxy-acetoguaiacone, butoxy-acetosyringone, butoxy-acetoethylsyringone, 3-methoxy-4-butoxy butyl ester, and 3,5-dimethoxy-4-butoxy butyl ester, using Py-GC/mass spectrometry (MS). The Py-GC method combined with TBAH successfully characterized polyphenol fragments with a carbonyl group causing differ high photo-yellowing in CTMP papers using a microgram order of samples.

The OxfordianBerriasian Birafu Formation in thesouthern Kurosegawa Belt (Permian accretion terrane), CentralShikoku, SW Japan, yields micro- and mega-faunas that contrib-ute to the biostratigraphy across the Jurassic-Cretaceous bound-ary. The type section consists of turbiditic sandstone and mudstonewith an upward-fining tendency in the lower members (A1-A3).with muddy limestone intercalations, whereas the upper memberC is characterized by a fine-grained turbiditic succession. Radi-olarians define the assemblage zones (AZ): Kilinora spiralis AZ(Oxfordian) in member A2, Loopus primitivus AZ (Tithonian) inthe upper part of member A3, and Pseudodictyomitra carpatica AZ(Berriasian - lower Valanginian) in members B2 and C. These giveat least an Oxfordian - Berriasian total time-range to the BirafuFormation. The mixed marine and brackish bivalve assemblage ofmembers B1 and B2 (lower part) comprises Grammatodon takien-sis Tamura, Pterotrigonia toyamai (Yehara) and Ctenoides tosanusKimura, the range of which is Late Jurassic to Earliest Creta-ceous, and Aguilerella nagatoensis (Ohta), Miltha japonica Tashiroand Isocyprina japonica Tashiro and Kozai, having an Early Cre-taceous range. The concurent range of Jurassic to Cretaceousbivalves and exclusively Cretaceous species is significant for theclarification of bivalve evolution across the Jurassic -Cretaceousboundary. The Berriasian appearance of Cretaceous marine andnon-marine bivalves takes place while Late Jurassic marine bivalvesboundary situated at its base.

High-dose methotrexate-based chemotherapy has extended survival in patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). However, although salvage treatment is necessary in recurrent and refractory PCNSL, this has not been standardized. We herein describe the efficacy of a combination of rituximab and temozolomide (TMZ) in two consecutive patients with recurrent and refractory PCNSL. Based on the immunohistochemical study, case 1 had a non-germinal center B-cell-like (non-GCB) subtype, was positive for bcl-2 and negative for O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT). Case 2 was GCB subtype, bcl-2-, and MGMT+. Because of the positive expression of MGMT, interferon-beta was additionally given in case 2. Complete responses and partial responses were obtained after the third and fourth cycles of combination therapy, respectively. This was maintained for 12 months, with acceptable toxicity. The combination of rituximab and TMZ was effective in tumors with different immunohistochemical profiles. This combination therapy warrants further study in a larger population.
