Value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in microwave ablation treatment of symptomatic focal uterine adenomyosis

        Xiao-Long Li,Jia-Xin Li,Song-Yuan Yu,Pei-Li Fan,Yun-Jie Jin,Er-Jiao Xu,Sai-Nan Guan,Er-Ya Deng,Qiu-Yan Li,Zheng-Biao Ji,Jiu-Ling Qi,Hui-Xiong Xu,China Alliance of Multi-Center Clinical Study for Ultra 대한초음파의학회 2024 ULTRASONOGRAPHY Vol.43 No.1

Purpose: This study evaluated the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in the ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) treatment of symptomatic focal uterine adenomyosis. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted between March 2020 and January 2023, enrolling 52 patients with symptomatic focal uterine adenomyosis who had undergone MWA. All patients were examined with CEUS before and after MWA. The non-perfused volume (NPV) was compared between CEUS and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCEMRI) following ablation. Therapeutic efficacy and safety were evaluated at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-ups. Additionally, this study explored the correlations between pre-treatment CEUS features and a volume reduction ratio indicating sufficient ablation, defined as 50% or more at the 3-month follow-up.Results: No significant differences in NPV were noted between CEUS and DCE-MRI immediately after MWA and during follow-up (all P>0.05). At the 3-month follow-up, the median VRRs for the uterus and adenomyosis were 33.2% and 63.9%, respectively. Sufficient ablation was achieved in 69.2% (36/52) of adenomyosis cases, while partial ablation was observed in the remaining 30.8% (16/52). The identification of non-enhancing areas on pre-treatment CEUS was associated with sufficient ablation (P=0.016). At the 12-month follow-up, significant decreases were observed in both the uterine and adenomyosis volumes (all P<0.001). Dysmenorrhea and menorrhagia were significantly alleviated at 12 months, and no major complications were encountered. Conclusion: CEUS can be used to evaluate the ablation zone of focal adenomyosis that has been treated with MWA, similarly to DCE-MRI. The identification of non-enhancing areas on pretreatment CEUS indicates satisfactory treatment outcomes. Radix ranunculus temate saponins induces apoptosis via the death receptor and mitochondrial pathways in SGC-7901 cells

        Mao-lin Li,Han-min Gu,Hong-ya Hang,Yao-li Jiang,Jiao Jiang,Qian-na Gu,Wen-yan Wu,M.-L. Li 대한독성 유전단백체 학회 2015 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.11 No.4

Radix ranunculus temate saponins (RRTS), one of the main constituents extracted from the popular traditional Chinese medicine Radix Ranunculi ternati, has been reported to have various biological activities including anti-cancer effect. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of RRTS on the cell proliferation and apoptosis in human gastric adenocarcinoma SGC-7901 cells. The data showed that exposure to RRTS for 24 h produced cytotoxic effects on SGC- 7901 cells in a dose-dependent manner (with an IC50 value of 21.22±2.76 μg/mL), which was accompanied by apoptosis induction (from 2.18±0.89% (control) to 63.72±13.16% (100 μg/mL)). Both the extrinsic or death receptor pathway and the intrinsic or mitochondrial pathway were involved in RRTS-induced apoptosis in SGC-7901 cells. Furthermore, apoptotic signaling induced by RRTS was amplified by cross-link between the two pathways via the signal-integrating protein Bid. In conclusion, our findings contribute to better understanding the molecular mechanism of RRTS’ effect on gastric cancer cells and form the basis of the therapeutic development of RRTS in treating gastric cancer in the future.

      • Growth and Differentiation Effects of Homer3 on a Leukemia Cell Line

        Li, Zheng,Qiu, Hui-Ying,Jiao, Yang,Cen, Jian-Nong,Fu, Chun-Mei,Hu, Shao-Yan,Zhu, Ming-Qing,Wu, De-Pei,Qi, Xiao-Fei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4

The Homer protein family, also known as the family of cytoplasmic scaffolding proteins, which include three subtypes (Homer1, Homer2, Homer3). Homer3 can regulate transcription and play a very important role in the differentiation and development for some tissues (e.g. muscle and nervous systems). The current studies showed that Homer3 abnormal expression changes in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Forced expression of Homer3 in transfected K562 cells inhibited proliferation, influenced the cell cycle profile, affected apoptosis induced by $As_2O_3$ through inhibition of Bcl2 expression, and also promoted cell differentiation induced by 12-O-tetra decanoylphorbol-acetate (TPA). These results showed that Homer3 is a novel gene which plays a certain role in the occurrence and development of AML.

Efficacy and Safety of the Safe Triangular Working Zone Approach in Percutaneous Vertebroplasty for Spinal Metastasis

        Yan Bi Cong,Fan Yan Feng,Tian Qing Hua,Wang Tao,Huang Zhi Long,Song Hong Mei,Li Ying,Jiao Lei,Wu Chun Gen 대한영상의학회 2022 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.23 No.9

Objective: This study aimed to assess the technical feasibility, efficacy, and safety of the safe triangular working zone (STWZ) approach applied in percutaneous vertebroplasty (PV) for spinal metastases involving the posterior part of the vertebral body. Materials and Methods: We prospectively enrolled 87 patients who underwent PV for spinal metastasis involving the posterior part of the vertebral body, with or without the STWZ approach, from January 2019 to April 2022. Forty-nine patients (27 females and 22 males; mean age ± standard deviation [SD], 57.2 ± 11.6 years; age range, 31–76 years) were included in group A (with STWZ approach), accounting for 54 vertebrae. Thirty-eight patients (18 females and 20 males; 59.1 ± 10.9 years; 29–81 years) were included in group B (without STWZ approach), accounting for 57 vertebrae. Patient demographics, procedure-related variables, and pain relief as assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS) were collected at different time points. Tumor recurrence in the vertebrae after PV was analyzed using Kaplan–Meier curves. Results: The STWZ approach was successful from T1 to L5 without severe complications. Cement filling was satisfactory in 47/54 (87.0%) and 25/57 (43.9%) vertebrae in groups A and B, respectively (p < 0.001). Cement leakage was not significantly different between groups A and B (p = 1.000). Mean VAS score ± SD before and 1 week and 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after PV were 7.6 ± 1.8, 4.2 ± 2.0, 2.7 ± 1.9, 1.9 ± 1.5, 1.7 ± 1.4, 1.7 ± 1.1, and 1.6 ± 1.3, respectively, in group A and 7.2 ± 1.7, 4.0 ± 1.3, 3.4 ± 1.6, 2.4 ± 1.2, 1.8 ± 1.0, 1.4 ± 0.5, and 1.7 ± 0.9, respectively, in group B. Kaplan–Meier analysis showed a lower tumor recurrence rate in group A than in group B (p = 0.001). Conclusion: The STWZ approach may represent a new, safe, alternative/auxiliary approach to target the posterior part of the vertebral body in the PV for spinal metastases.

      • High Monocarboxylate Transporter 4 Protein Expression in Stromal Cells Predicts Adverse Survival in Gastric Cancer

Yan, Ping,Li, Yu-Hong,Tang, Zhi-Jiao,Shu, Xiang,Liu, Xia Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.20

Background: Increasing evidence suggests that stromal monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4) and carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) may play key roles in tumor development. However, their clinical value remains largely unexplored in gastric cancer (GC). The present study aimed to determine clinicopathological significance and prognostic values of stromal MCT4 and CA IX in GC. Materials and Methods: Specimens from 143 GC patients were immunohistochemically stained using polyclonal anti-MCT4 and anti-CA IX antibodies. Expression was correlated with patient clinicopathologic characteristics and survival data. Results: High stromal MCT4 expression was detected in 72 of 143 (50.3%) GCs and high CA IX in 74 (51.7%). Both high stromal MCT4 and CA IX were correlated with advanced TNM stage (p=0.000; p=0.000). High CA IX expression was positively related to depth of invasion (p=0.022) and positive lymph nodes (p=0.002) as well. Survival analysis indicated high expression of stromal MCT4 to be an independent factor in predicting poor overall survival (OS) (HR and 95%CI=1.962, 1.032-3.729, p=0.040) and disease free survival (DFS) (HR and 95%CI=2.081, 1.158-3.741, p=0.014) of GC patients. However, high CA IX expression exhibited no significant predictive value. Conclusions: These findings suggest that high expression of stromal MCT4 and CA IX proteins is significantly correlated with GC progression. High stromal MCT4 heralds worse outcome of GC patient, suggesting a novel candidate prognostic marker and therapeutic target.

      • Microwave Ablation Treatment of Liver Cancer with a 2,450-MHz Cooled-shaft Antenna: Pilot Study on Safety and Efficacy

        Jiao, De-Chao,Zhou, Qi,Han, Xin-Wei,Wang, Ya-Feng,Wu, Gang,Ren, Jian-Zhuang,Wang, Yan-Li,Ding, Peng-Xu,Ma, Ji,Fu, Ming-Ti Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.2

To evaluate efficacy of microwave ablation in a primary clinical study, sixty patients (44 men, 16 women; mean age 53 years) with 96, 1-8 cm (mean $3.20{\pm}0.17$ cm) liver cancers were treated with 2,450-MHz internally cooled-shaft antenna. Complete ablation (CA) and local tumor progression (LTP) rates as well as complications were determined. CA rates in small (< 3.0 cm), intermediate (3.1-5.0 cm) and large (5.1-8.0 cm) liver cancers were 96.4% (54/56), 92.3% (24/26) and 78.6% (11/14), respectively. During a mean follow-up period of $17.17{\pm}6.52$ months, LTP occurred in five (5.21%) treated cases. There was no significant difference in the CA and LTP rates between the HCC and liver metastasis patient subgroups (P<0.05). Microwave ablation provides a reliable, efficient, and safe technique to perform hepatic tumor ablation.

Event-triggered Output-feedback Control for Networked Switched Positive Systems with Asynchronous Switching

        Jiao Liu,Yake Yang,Hongchao Li,Yanli Geng 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.9

The issue of asynchronously output-feedback control for a class of discrete-time networked switched positive systems in the presence of network-induced time delays is discussed in this paper. Due to the limited communication energy or network bandwidth, an event-triggered control strategy capable of achieving the goal of reducing the resources and the communication load is adopted. Different from the existing results, by taking full advantage of positive property of output, a mode-dependent linear weighting triggering condition is given in the paper, which can deal with the positive stabilization problem efficiently. Furthermore, an asynchronously event-triggered output-feedback controller is designed to ensure the closed loop system remain positive and exponentially stable by virtue of multiple copositive type Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional incorporated with linear programming method. Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the results obtained.

THE PERIODIC JACOBI MATRIX PROCRUSTES PROBLEM

Li, Jiao-Fen,Hu, Xi-Yan The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2010 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.28 No.3

The following "Periodic Jacobi Procrustes" problem is studied: find the Periodic Jacobi matrix X which minimizes the Frobenius (or Euclidean) norm of AX - B, with A and B as given rectangular matrices. The class of Procrustes problems has many application in the biological, physical and social sciences just as in the investigation of elastic structures. The different problems are obtained varying the structure of the matrices belonging to the feasible set. Higham has solved the orthogonal, the symmetric and the positive definite cases. Andersson and Elfving have studied the symmetric positive semidefinite case and the (symmetric) elementwise nonnegative case. In this contribution, we extend and develop these research, however, in a relatively simple way. Numerical difficulties are discussed and illustrated by examples.

Mitochondrial genome and diverse inheritance patterns in Pleurotus pulmonarius

        Li-Yun Ye,You-Jin Deng,Irum Mukhtar,Guo-Liang Meng,Yan-Jiao Song,Bing Cheng,Jin-bing Hao,Xiao-Ping Wu 한국미생물학회 2020 The journal of microbiology Vol.58 No.2

Pleurotus pulmonarius, a member of the Pleurotaceae family in Basidiomycota, is an edible, economically important mushroom in most Asian countries. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genomes (mtDNA) of three P. pulmonarius strains – two monokaryotic commercial (J1-13 and ZA3) and one wild (X1-15) – were sequenced and analyzed. In ZA3 and X1-15, the mtDNA molecule was found to be a single circle of 68,305 bp and 73,435 bp, respectively. Both strains contain 14 core protein-coding genes and two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) subunit genes. The ZA3 strain has 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes and nine introns: eight in cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1), and one in the rRNA large subunit (rnl). Monokaryotic J1-13 and ZA3 mtDNAs were found to be similar in their structure. However, the wild strain X1-15 contains 25 tRNA genes and only seven introns in cox1. Open reading frames (ORFs) of ZA3/J1-13 and X1-15 encode LAGLIDADG, ribosomal protein S3, and DNA polymerase II. In addition, mtDNA inheritance in J1-13, ZA3, and X1-15 was also studied. Results showed that the mtDNA inheritance pattern was uniparental and closely related to dikaryotic hyphal location with respect to the parent. Results also show that mtDNA inheritance is influenced by both the parental nuclear genome and mitogenome in the zone of contact between two compatible parents. In summary, this analysis provides valuable information and a basis for further studies to improve our understanding of the inheritance of fungal mtDNA.

Kinetics of thermal decomposition of ε-hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane by TG-DSC-MS-FTIR

        Yan-Li Zhu,Ming-Xin Shan,Zhi-Xia Xiao,Jing-Si Wang,Qing-Jie Jiao 한국화학공학회 2015 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.32 No.6

Thermal decomposition of ε-hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (HNIW) was studied by thermogravimetrydifferential scanning calorimetry-mass spectrometry-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG-DSC-MS-FTIR) simultaneous analysis. It has been shown that there is a crystal transition point for ε-HNIW, and only a single decomposition process has been observed for HNIW. The kinetic parameters of thermal decomposition of HNIW were obtained by Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa methods, indicating that HNIW has the higher reactivity compared to the other nitramines. The HNIW decomposition mechanism demonstrated by the non-isothermal kinetics conformed to Avrami-Erofeev equation with the factor of nucleus growth of n=1/3 and the conversion degree of α from 0.1 to 0.7. The MS and FTIR analyses indicated that the thermal decomposition of HNIW favors N-N bond cleavage over C-N bond cleavage as the rate determining step.
