      • Distributed Series Elastic Actuator

Hamed Ali Yaghini Bonabi,Majid Nili Ahmadabadi,Fariba Bahrami 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10

Series elastic actuators (SEA’s) have been widely used in rehabilitation robots and haptic devices to provide sufficient compliance as well as safety, among some other properties, for performing interactive tasks. Nevertheless, SEA"s suffer from two major drawbacks; namely short bandwidth and limited rendered stiffness. In this paper, we propose a new elastic actuator concept in that a set of spatially distributed and mechanically parallel SEAs, each called a SEA component, are grouped and control a single joint. We call our system distributed series elastic actuator (DSEA). Each SEA component has its own controller but gets its set point from a load distribution system. The analytical and the simulation results show that a DSEA has wider bandwidth and better transient performance in addition to elevated rendered stiffness in comparison to its equivalent SEA. In addition, DSEAs consume less energy and require lower power as well as torque.

Prostaglandins Inhibit Cytochrome P450 4A Activity and Contribute to Endotoxin-Induced Hypotension in Rats via Nitric Oxide Production

        Tunctan, Bahar,Yaghini, Fariborz A.,Estes, Anne,Malik, Kafait U. 대한약학회 2008 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.31 No.7

Increased production of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandins contribute to development of hypotension during endotoxemia. We have previously demonstrated that endotoxemiainduced increase in NO production suppresses renal cytochrome P450 (CYP) 4A expression and activity, and that selective inhibition of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) with 1,3-PBIT restores renal CYP 4A protein and activity and mean arterial pressure (MAP). By using cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor indomethacin, we investigated herein whether prostaglandins, via NO production, inhibit renal CYP 4A1 protein expression and CYP 4A activity and contribute to the endotoxin-induced hypotension. In conscious male Sprague-Dawley rats, endotoxin (10 mg/kg, intraperitoneal (i.p.)) reduced MAP, increased serum nitrite and bicyclo PGE2 levels, renal nitrite production and iNOS protein expression, and decreased renal CYP 4A1 protein expression and CYP 4A activity after 4 h injection. All of the endotoxin-induced changes, except for increase in renal nitrite production, were prevented by indomethacin (5 mg/kg, i.p. 1 h after endotoxin). The effects of indomethacin on the endotoxin-induced decrease in MAP, CYP 4A1 protein expression and CYP 4A activity were minimized by the CYP 4A inhibitor, aminobenzotriazole (50 mg/kg, i.p. 1 h after endotoxin). These data suggest that prostaglandins produced during endotoxemia increase iNOS protein expression and NO synthesis, and decrease CYP 4A protein expression and CYP 4A activity and that inhibition of iNOS or COX restores renal CYP 4A protein level and CYP 4A activity and MAP presumably due to increased production of arachidonic acid metabolites derived from CYP 4A.

        Auditory Neuropathy/Dyssynchrony in Biotinidase Deficiency

        Hossein Talebi,Omid Yaghini 대한청각학회 2016 Journal of Audiology & Otology Vol.20 No.1

Biotinidase deficiency is a disorder inherited autosomal recessively showing evidence of hearing loss and optic atrophy in addition to seizures, hypotonia, and ataxia. In the present study, a 2-year-old boy with Biotinidase deficiency is presented in which clinical symptoms have been reported with auditory neuropathy/auditory dyssynchrony (AN/AD). In this case, transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions showed bilaterally normal responses representing normal function of outer hair cells. In contrast, acoustic reflex test showed absent reflexes bilaterally, and visual reinforcement audiometry and auditory brainstem responses indicated severe to profound hearing loss in both ears. These results suggest AN/AD in patients with Biotinidase deficiency.

Characterization and in vitro evaluation of nanostructure Barium titanate coating on Ti6Al4V

        Shahram Rahmati,Mohammad Basir Basiriani,Mohammad Rafienia,Jaber Yaghini,Keyvan Raeissi,Saeid Hosseini,Sattar Kabiri 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2016 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.17 No.5

Osseointegration has been the concern of implantology for many years. Researchers have used various ceramic coatings forthis purpose however piezoelectric ceramics (e.g. Barium titanate) are a novel field of interest. In this regard, Barium titanate(BaTiO3, BTO) coating were fabricated by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) on Ti6Al4V medical alloy, using sol-gelsynthesized nanometer BTO powder. Structure and morphologies were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanningelectron microscopy (SEM) respectively. Results showed homogenous coating with cubic structure and crystallite size of about41 nm. Bioactivity response of coated samples while immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF) were evaluated by SEM andinductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. Cell compatibility was also studied via MTT assay and SEM imaging. SEM imagesindicated Apatite formation on the coating after 7 days of SBF immersion, and ICP analysis approved ions concentrationdecrement in SBF. Cells showed flattened morphology in intimate contact with coating after 12 h of culture. Altogether, coatedsamples demonstrated appropriate bioactivity and biocompatibility.
