<P>Atmospheric pressure (AP) oxygen cold plasma was adopted to synthesize Au/TiO2 catalysts with the assistance of a simple modified incipient wetness impregnation process. Discharge voltages of 25.0, 29.0, and 35.0 kV and discharge time of 1, 2, and 4 min are selected to investigate the effects of discharge voltage and discharge time on the property of the Au/TiO2 catalysts. The results of carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation activity testing show that AP oxygen cold plasma is beneficial to enhance the activity of the Au/TiO2 catalysts, and the optimal discharge voltage and time are 29.0 kV and 1 min, respectively. CO conversion of the Au/TiO2-29-1 catalyst at 30 °C is 1.42 times as that of the Au/TiO2-As catalyst without plasma treatment. The UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterizations indicate that AP oxygen cold plasma not only can decompose the gold species formed by the modified impregnation process to form metallic gold species but also can remove some of the oxygen species on the surface of the TiO2 support. The discharge time of 1 min at 29.0 kV is enough to decompose the gold species formed by the modified impregnation process, and to keep much active hydroxyl groups. Moreover, there is little difference in the size of gold nanoparticles in the Au/TiO2 catalysts. Therefore, Au/TiO2-29-1 catalyst exhibits higher CO oxidation activity than Au/TiO2-As, and 1 min is the optimal discharge time. Thanks to the AP oxygen cold plasma method, high-performance Au/TiO2 catalysts can be synthesized simply in a short time.</P>

Objectives. To investigate glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) gene expression and protein levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with severe or profound sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) and to explore the roles of GRs and HDAC2 in glucocorticoid (GC) insensitivity. Methods. Fifty-five severe or profound SSNHL patients were enrolled in the study. According to hearing improvement after GC treatment, patients were assigned into two groups: GC-sensitive and GC-resistant. A normal reference group included 20 healthy volunteers without hearing loss. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analyses were used to detect the relative expression of GRα, GRβ, and HDAC2 in PBMCs at the mRNA and protein levels. Results. The protein levels of GRs and HDAC2 in PBMCs of SSNHL patients were lower than the normal reference values before GC treatment. Compared with the GC-resistant group, both the mRNA and protein levels of GRα and HDAC2 were significantly increased in the GC-sensitive group after GC treatment. Conclusion. A lack of GRα and HDAC2 induction following steroid treatment in GC-resistant SSNHL patients may play a fundamental mechanistic role in GC insensitivity. Response of GRα and HDAC2 to steroid treatment may, thus, predict the prognosis of hearing improvement in SSNHL patients.

<P>Three-dimensional visualization identifies structural remodeling in chloroplasts during barley stripe mosaic virus infection.</P><P>Chloroplasts are multifunctional organelles whose morphology is affected by environmental stresses. Although the three-dimensional (3D) architecture of thylakoid membranes has been reported previously, a 3D visualization of chloroplast under stress has not been explored. In this work, we used a positive-strand RNA ((+)RNA) virus, barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) to observe chloroplast structural changes during infection by electron tomography. The analyses revealed remodeling of the chloroplast membranes, characterized by the clustering of outer membrane-invaginated spherules in inner membrane-derived packets. Diverse morphologies of cytoplasmic invaginations (CIs) were evident with spherules at the periphery and different sized openings connecting the CIs to the cytoplasm. Immunoelectron microscopy of these viral components verified that the aberrant membrane structures were sites for BSMV replication. The BSMV αa replication protein localized at the surface of the chloroplasts and played a prominent role in eliciting chloroplast membrane rearrangements. In sum, our results have revealed the 3D structure of the chloroplasts induced by BSMV infection. These findings contribute to our understanding of chloroplast morphological changes under stress conditions and during assembly of plant (+)RNA virus replication complexes.</P>

Due to various reasons, there are generally missing data in datasets. Usually the missing data in these incomplete datasets need to be filled. In this paper, the drawbacks of some existing data filling approaches for incomplete information systems are analyzed based on Rough Set theory. Several similarity relation models are discussed and the Valued Limited Tolerance Relation model is proposed. A data filling algorithm based on the Valued Limited Tolerance Relation model is put forward. This approach makes full use of the similarity of objects and selects the object which is the most similar to the incomplete object. More missing data can be filled scientifically. The experimental results show that this approach is effective.
A Novel Architecture for Cognitive Internet of Things
Mingchuan Zhang,Yong Qiu,Ruijuang Zheng,Xiuling Bai,Wangyang Wei,Qingtao Wu 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.9 No.9
Internet of Things (IoT) represents the extension and evolution of the Internet, which has great potential and prospects for modern intelligent service and applications. However the current IoT is still based on traditional static architectures and models by our deep investigation. It lacks enough intelligence and cannot comply with the increasing application performance requirements. By integrating cognition into IoT, we present a new concept of Cognitive Internet of Things (CIoT) and its corresponding intelligent architecture. CIoT consists of Protocol Plane, Cognitive Plane and Control Plane modules and involves some novel designed models such as layer protocol stack, three-layer cognitive rings. Based on the proposed CIoT, we finally develop an actual application system to address the transportation and dispatching for ready-mixed concrete. The statistical results show that the new dispatching pattern with CIoT can achieve higher efficiency of transportation and dispatching with lower oil consumption than traditional dispatching pattern.

Vacuolar Na+/H+ antiporters catalyze the exchange of Na+ for H+ across vacuolar membranes and compartmentalize Na+ into vacuoles. They play important roles in cellular pH and Na+ homeostasis. The SsNHX1 gene was previously cloned from a typical euhalophyte, Suaeda salsa. Its cloning revealed another N-terminus truncated transcript, SsNHX2. This potentially alternative splicing variant was truncated from the 49 amino acid residues (aa) of the N terminus of SsNHX1. To compare their degree of salt tolerance, we over-expressed SsNHX1 and SsNHX2 in Arabidopsis. Southern and northern blot analyses showed that both genes had been integrated into that genome and had expressed in several lines. Two types of transgenic plants grew more vigorously than the wild type (WT) under salt stress, but no remarkable differences were found between those SsNHX1 and SsNHX2 transformants. Physiological analyses also supported this phenotype. Both fresh and dry weights of the transgenics as well as their accumulations of Na+ and K+ under salinity were much higher than that of WT, but differences were not significant between SsNHX1 and SsNHX2 plants for any of those parameters. These results suggest that SsNHX2 is a functional Na+/H+ antiporter like SsNHX1 and their levels of salt tolerance are similar.

The Complete Genome Sequence of Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus Isolated from Vietnam
Thi-Sau Dinh,Cuiji Zhou,Xiuling Cao,Chenggui Han,Jialin Yu,Dawei Li,Yongliang Zhang 한국식물병리학회 2012 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.28 No.4
We determined the complete genome sequence of a Vietnamese isolate of Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus (SRBSDV). Whole genome comparisons and phylogenetic analysis showed that the genome of the Vietnamese isolate shared high nucleotide sequence identities of over 97.5% with those of the reported Chinese isolates, confirming a common origin of them. Moreover, the greatest divergence between different SRBSDV isolates was found in the segments S1, S3, S4and S6, which differs from the sequence alignment results between SRBSDV and Rice black streaked dwarf virus (RBSDV), implying that SRBSDV evolved in a unique way independent of RBSDV. This is the first report of a complete nucleotide sequence of SRBSDV from Vietnam and our data provides new clues for further understanding of molecular variation and epidemiology of SRBSDV in Southeast Asia.

A real-time digital time-stamp sorting algorithm used in the In-Beam positron emission tomography (In-Beam PET) is presented. The algorithm is operated in the field programmable gate array (FPGA) and a small amount of registers, MUX and memory cells are used. It is developed for sorting the data of annihilation event from front-end circuits, so as to identify the coincidence events efficiently in a large amount of data. In the In-Beam PET, each annihilation event is detected by the detector array and digitized by the analog to digital converter (ADC) in Data Acquisition Unit (DAQU), with a resolution of 14 bits and sampling rate of 50 MS/s. Test and preliminary operation have been implemented, it can perform a sorting operation under the event count rate up to 1 MHz per channel, and support four channels in total, count rate up to 4 MHz. The performance of this algorithm has been verified by pulse generator and 22Na radiation source, which can sort the events with chaotic order into chronological order completely. The application of this algorithm provides not only an efficient solution for selection of coincidence events, but also a design of electronic circuit with a small-scale structure.
