        Continuous gas–liquid aerobic oxidation of toluene catalyzed by [T(p-Cl)PPFe]2O in a series of three stirred tank reactors

        The liquid-phase catalytic aerobic oxidation of toluene by [T(p-Cl)PPFe]2O was studied in a series of three stirred tank reactors. The effects of operation mode (including semi-batch and continuous operation), reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, average residence time, and air flow rate on the oxidation process were examined. The experimental results showed that continuous oxidation had no advantage over the total yield and selectivity of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol in comparison with semi-batch oxidation. And the reaction temperature was the most significant factor influencing on continuous oxidation of toluene. It is also found that adopting sequentially decreased temperature in the three series reactors could improve the yield and selectivity of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol in this process. Under which at the higher conversion of toluene, the total yield to benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol increased 17.05% or 43.62% respectively in comparison with adopting sequentially increased or same temperature in the three series reactors.

        Impeller inlet geometry effect on performance improvement for centrifugal pumps

        This research treats the effect of impeller inlet geometry on performance improvement for a boiler feed pump, who is a centrifugal pump having specific speed of 183 m⋅m3min-1⋅min-1 and close type impeller with exit diameter of 450 mm. The hydraulic performance and cavitation performance of the pump have been tested experimentally. In order to improve the pump, five impellers have been considered by extending the blade leading edge or applying much larger blade angle at impeller inlet compared with the original impeller. The 3-D turbulent flow inside those pumps has been analyzed basing on RNG k-ε turbulence model and VOF cavitation model. It is noted that the numerical results are fairly good compared with the experiments. Based on the experimental test and numerical simulation, the following conclusions can be drawn: (1) Impeller inlet geometry has important influence on performance improvement in the case of centrifugal pump. Favorite effects on performance improvement have been achieved by both extending the blade leading edge and applying much larger blade angle at impeller inlet; (2) It is suspected that the extended leading edge have favorite effect for improving hydraulic performance, and the much larger blade angle at impeller inlet have favorite effect for improving cavitation performance for the test pump; (3) Uniform flow upstream of impeller inlet is helpful for improving cavitation performance of the pump.

        Fixed-time Synchronization of Complex-valued Memristive BAM Neural Network and Applications in Image Encryption and Decryption

        This paper focuses on the dynamical characteristics of complex-valued memristor-based BAM neural network (CVMBAMNN) with leakage time-varying delay. With two different controllers, we have obtained fixedtime and finite-time synchronization criteria respectively in complex domain for our special model, which few work has studied before. Since fixed-time synchronous system can improve communication security, we designed a scheme for RGB image encryption and decryption. In order to satisfy the requirement of much lower error in image secure communication, our approach can get the error of fixed-time synchronization to about 1×10−13. Due to our highly consistent system, we do get good encryption and decryption effect with encryption and decryption scheme. Finally, numerical simulations are included to demonstrate the correctness of our theoretical results.

        Face Stability Analysis of Slurry Shield Tunnels in Rock–Soil Interface Mixed Ground

        When shield tunneling in rock-soil interface (RSI) mixed ground, maintaining the stability of the tunnel face is very challenging. This study aims at the investigation of the face stability of slurry shield tunnels in RSI mixed ground. A new apparatus was developed to simulate pressurized slurry supporting the tunnel face in centrifuge tests. The progressive failure of the tunnel face was triggered with slow decrease of slurry pressure. With two equivalent model tunnels of circular shape and semicircular shape, the variations of soil (water) pressure and the displacement field in front of the tunnel can be obtained simultaneously. The face failure was found to be a local collapse in the upper soil layer. The limit support pressure was picked out at the sudden change of the measured soil or water pressures. Then the classical wedge-prism model was introduced and modified to calculate the limit support pressure for slurry shield tunnels in RSI mixed ground considering the partial collapse. Numerical analysis was applied to verify the theoretical analysis and sensitivity analysis was performed to estimate the influence of different parameters on the theoretical solutions.
