Experimental investigation of a process cooling system retrofitted with HFC-404A refrigerant for precise manufacturing application

        Fu-Jen Wang,Kuei-I Tsai,Yao-Jun Wang,Hao-Chuan Lee 대한기계학회 2011 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.25 No.2

Precise-manufacturing facilities, which emphasize accurate and stable machining of the working components to be used in semiconductor industry, cannot function properly without appropriate and precise cooling. HCFC (hydro-chloro-floro-carbon) has been commonly used as the coolant for precise manufacturing facilities; but it is facing the pressing schedule to be phased out. Additionally, the dramatic variation of heat load during high-accuracy and high-speed applications need a critical control of coolant (brine or water) temperature. Use of eco-friendly HFC 404A to replace HFC has been suggested as an effective alternative to alleviate the problems. In this study, the performance of a process cooling system retrofitted with HFC-404A refrigerant was evaluated; the energy efficiency ratio and accuracy of temperature control specific to -15℃ precise manufacturing application were examined. Effects of using thermostatic expansion valve associated with hot-gas by-pass control scheme under different loading conditions have been investigated extensively. The energy efficiency ratio and accuracy of temperature control for the cooling system were measured and analyzed for comparing and evaluating HCFC-22 and HFC-404A using different throttling devices under specific coolant temperatures. The comprehensive studies on improving the accuracy of temperature control and energy-saving efficiencies through different temperature control strategies are presented in this paper.

Six new compounds (1–4, 8, 10), along with six known limonoids (5–7, 9, 11, 12), were isolated from the roots of Trichilia sinensis. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic methods including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT, HSQC, HMBC, 1H–1H COSY and ROESY experiments, as well as by comparison with the literature. All the compounds were evaluated for cytotoxicities against K562, SGC-7901 and BEL-7402 cell lines. Compounds 2, 7, 10, 11, and 12 showed weak inhibitory activity to the selected cell lines.

      • Expression of HMGB1 and its Clinical Significance in T-cell Lymphoma

        Mao, Xing-Jiang,Wang, Geng-Fu,Chen, Zhi-Jun,Wang, Li-Na,Zhang, Jun-Biao,Wang, Hui-Ling Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.11

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical significance of HMGB1 expression in T-cell lymphoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining for HMGB1 and survivin was performed with specimens from 120 cases of T-cell lymphoma and 40 cases of reactive lymphoid hyperplasia with antibodies against human HMGB1 and survivin. Results: The expression of HMGB1 and survivin was significantly higher in tissues of T-cell lymphoma than in reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. Positive expression of HMGB1 and survivin was observed in 63.7% (65/102) and 61.8% (63/102) of T-cell lymphoma cases, respectively. While was associated with gender, age, and tumor location, significant correlations with malignancy and clinical stage were observed. Spearman rank correlation analysis revealed that the expression of HMGB1 and survivin was positively correlated in T-cell lymphomas (P<0.01). Conclusions: Expression of HMGB1 and survivin in T-cell lymphomas is significantly associated with malignancy and clinical stage, but not with gender, age and tumor location. Elevated expression of HMGB1 may be an important biomarker for the development and progression of T-cell lymphoma.

      • Screening Peptides Binding Specifically to Colorectal Cancer Cells from a Phage Random Peptide Library

        Wang, Jun-Jiang,Liu, Ying,Zheng, Yang,Liao, Kang-Xiong,Lin, Feng,Wu, Cheng-Tang,Cai, Guan-Fu,Yao, Xue-Qing Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.1

The aim of this study was to screen for polypeptides binding specifically to LoVo human colorectal cancer cells using a phage-displayed peptide library as a targeting vector for colorectal cancer therapy. Human normal colorectal mucous epithelial cells were applied as absorber cells for subtraction biopanning with a c7c phage display peptide library. Positive phage clones were identified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and immunofluorescence detection; amino acid sequences were deduced by DNA sequencing. After 3 rounds of screening, 5 of 20 phage clones screened positive, showing specific binding to LoVo cells and a conserved RPM motif. Specific peptides against colorectal cancer cells could be obtained from a phage display peptide library and may be used as potential vectors for targeting therapy for colorectal cancer.

        Wang, Jun-Jiang,Liu, Ying,Zheng, Yang,Lin, Feng,Cai, Guan-Fu,Yao, Xue-Qing Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

Background and Objective: Protein expression in colon and rectal cancer (CRC) and paired normal tissues was examined by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) to identify differentially expressed proteins. Materials and Methods: Five fresh colorectal cancer and paired adjacent normal tissues were obtained and differentially expressed protein spots were determined using PDQuest software, with identification on the basis of MALDI-TOF mass spectra. Results: Compared with normal colorectal mucosa, protein abnormal expression of 65 spots varying more than 1.5 times were found in 2-DE gels from colorectal cancer samples (P<0.05); forty-two proteins were up-regulated and 23 were down-regulated; twelve protein spots were identified using mass spectrometry, of which 8 were up-regulated, includimng HSPB1and Annexin A4, while 4 were down-regulated, the results being consistent with Western blot findings. Conclusions: Two-dimensional electrophoresis reference maps for CRC tissues and adjacent normal mucosa (NMC) were established and 12 differentially expressed proteins were identified. Up-regulated HSPB1 and Annexin A4 may play many important roles in the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer.

      • Performance of Fixing Agents in Controlling Micro-Stickies in Recycled Newsprint Pulp

        WANG LI-JUN,CHEN FU-SHAN,ZHOU LIN-JIE 한국펄프·종이공학회 2006 한국펄프종이학회 기타 간행물 Vol.- No.-

The microstickes control effects of some fixing agents, including an inorganic PAC, an organic polyamine (PA) and polydiallydimethyl ammonium chloride (Pdadmac), and a high cationic starch (HCS), were investigated, together with their effects on wet end performances and physical properties of handsheets. Despite that the HCS and Pdadmac had lower cationic charge densities than the PA and PAC (the HCS being even lower), they gave higher zeta potentials to fibers, and lower turbidities, cationic demands and residual COD contents to the pulp liquid phases than the PA and PAC did. In all cases, the HCS showed even better effects than the Pdadmac. In addition, drainage speed was also much higher by the HCS treatments although paper formation was worsened. All the phenomena showed that the HCS can fix more dissolved and colloidal substances to cellulose fibers, indicating that the HCS functioned mainly with flocculation and even hydrogen bonding mechanisms. Data on optical properties further indicated that the HCS interacted preferentially with colloidal substances, since it fixed more “dirty” microstickes to fibers which decreased more sheet brightness while increasing more sheet opacity (with both higher light absorption and scattering coefficients). Interestingly, the organic fixing agents did not decrease tensile, tearing, and folding strengths of paper sheets made from 100% recycled newsprint pulp, except when they were dosed in high amounts. On the contrary, the inorganic PAC had more serious negative effects on the strength properties, especially on folding endurance. The study suggested that proper use of the HCS can lead to better microstickies control effects than traditional agents and methods.

      • Cervical Cancer Screening and Analysis of Potential Risk Factors in 43,567 Women in Zhongshan, China

        Wang, Ying,Yu, Yan-Hong,Shen, Keng,Xiao, Lin,Luan, Feng,Mi, Xian-Jun,Zhang, Xiao-Min,Fu, Li-Hua,Chen, Ang,Huang, Xiang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2

Objective: The objective of this study was to establish a program model for use in wide-spread cervical cancer screening. :Methods: Cervical cancer screening was conducted in Zhongshan city in Guangdong province, China through a coordinated network of multiple institutes and hospitals. A total of 43,567 women, 35 to 59 years of age, were screened during regular gynecological examinations using the liquid-based ThinPrep cytology test (TCT). Patients who tested positive were recalled for further treatment. Results: The TCT-positive rate was 3.17%, and 63.4% of these patients returned for follow-up. Pathology results were positive for 30.5% of the recalled women. Women who were younger than 50 years of age, urban dwelling, low-income, had a history of cervical disease, began having sex before 20 years of age, or had sex during menstruation, were at elevated risk for a positive TCT test. The recall rate was lower in women older than 50 years of age, urban dwelling, poorly educated, and who began having sex early. Ahigher recall rate was found in women 35 years of age and younger, urban dwelling, women who first had sex after 24 years of age, and women who had sex during menstruation. The positive pathology rate was higher in urban women 50 years of age and younger and women who tested positive for human papillomavirus. Conclusion: An effective model for large-scale cervical cancer screening was successfully established. These results suggest that improvements are needed in basic education regarding cervical cancer screening for young and poorly educated women. Improved outreach for follow-up is also necessary to effectively control cervical cancer.

Effect of Homogenization Temperature on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Low-Carbon High-Boron Cast Steel

        Fu Hanguang,Song Xuding,Lei Yongping,Jiang Zhiqiang,Xing Jiandong,Yang Jun,Wang Jinhua 대한금속·재료학회 2009 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.15 No.3

The effects of quenching treatment on the microstructure, hardness, impact toughness, and wear resistance of low-carbon high-boron cast steel (LCHBS) containing 0.15-0.3 %C, 1.4-1.8 %B, 0.3-0.8 %Si, 0.8-1.2 %Mn, 0.5-0.8%Cr, 0.3-0.6%Ni, and 0.3-0.6%Mo have been investigated by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and via an electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, impact tester, hardness tester, and wear tester. The as-cast matrix of LCHBS consists of pearlite and ferrite. There is 8-10 vol.% Fe2(B, C) type borocarbides in the matrix. The micro-hardness of Fe2(B, C) is 1430-1480 Hv. Fe2(B,C) shows no obvious change and the matrix completely transforms into lath martensite upon quenching at 900 °C to 1100 °C. The microhardness of the matrix and the macrohardness of the LCHBS sample show a slight increase with an increase of homogenization temperature. When the homogenization temperature exceeds 1050 °C, no distinct change in the hardness is observed. The change of homogenization temperature has no apparent effect on the impact toughness of LCHBS. The mass losses of LCHBS increase distinctly when the wear load increases. The homogenization temperature is less than 1000 °C and the wear rate of LCHBS decreases with an increase of temperature. The wear rate does not display any obvious change after exceeding a homogenization temperature of 1000 °C. The effects of quenching treatment on the microstructure, hardness, impact toughness, and wear resistance of low-carbon high-boron cast steel (LCHBS) containing 0.15-0.3 %C, 1.4-1.8 %B, 0.3-0.8 %Si, 0.8-1.2 %Mn, 0.5-0.8%Cr, 0.3-0.6%Ni, and 0.3-0.6%Mo have been investigated by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and via an electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, impact tester, hardness tester, and wear tester. • Fangchinoline Inhibits Cell Proliferation Via Akt/GSK-3beta/cyclin D1 Signaling and Induces Apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 Breast Cancer Cells

        Wang, Chang-Dong,Yuan, Cheng-Fu,Bu, You-Quan,Wu, Xiang-Mei,Wan, Jin-Yuan,Zhang, Li,Hu, Ning,Liu, Xian-Jun,Zu, Yong,Liu, Ge-Li,Song, Fang-Zhou Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2

Fangchinoline (Fan) inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in several cancer cell lines. The effects of Fan on cell growth and proliferation in breast cancer cells remain to be elucidated. Here, we show that Fan inhibited cell proliferation in the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell line through suppression of the AKT/Gsk-3beta/cyclin D1 signaling pathway. Furthermore, Fan induced apoptosis by increasing the expression of Bax (relative to Bcl-2), active caspase 3 and cytochrome-c. Fan significantly inhibited cell proliferation of MDA-MB-231 cells in a concentration and time dependent manner as determined by MTT assay. Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated that Fan treatment of MDA-MB-231 cells resulted in cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase, which correlated with apparent downregulation of both mRNA and protein levels of both PCNA and cyclin D1. Further analysis demonstrated that Fan decreased the phosphorylation of AKT and GSK-3beta. In addition, Fan up-regulated active caspase3, cytochrome-c protein levels and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2, accompanied by apoptosis. Taken together, these results suggest that Fan is a potential natural product for the treatment of breast cancer.
