Southeast Asian Foot-and-Mouth Disease Viruses in Eastern Asia
Knowles, Nick J.,He, JiJun,Shang, Youjun,Wadsworth, Jemma,Valdazo-Gonzá,lez, Begoñ,a,Onosato, Hiroyuki,Fukai, Katsuhiko,Morioka, Kazuki,Yoshida, Kazuo,Cho, In-Soo,Kim, Su-Mi,Park, Jong-Hye Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2012 Emerging infectious diseases Vol.18 No.3
<P>Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks recently affected 2 countries (Japan and South Korea) in eastern Asia that were free of FMD without vaccination. Analysis of viral protein 1 nucleotide sequences indicated that FMD serotype A and O viruses that caused these outbreaks originated in mainland Southeast Asia to which these viruses are endemic.</P>
Special Function Inverse Series Pairs
Alsardary, Salar Yaseen,Gould, Henry Wadsworth Department of Mathematics 2010 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.50 No.2
Working with the various special functions of mathematical physics and applied mathematics we often encounter inverse relations of the type $F_n(x)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}A^n_kG_k(x)$ and $ G_n(x)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}B_k^nF_k(x)$, where 0, 1, 2,$\cdots$. Here $F_n(x)$, $G_n(x)$ denote special polynomial functions, and $A_k^n$, $B_k^n$ denote coefficients found by use of the orthogonal properties of $F_n(x)$ and $G_n(x)$, or by skillful series manipulations. Typically $G_n(x)=x^n$ and $F_n(x)=P_n(x)$, the n-th Legendre polynomial. We give a collection of inverse series pairs of the type $f(n)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}A_k^ng(k)$ if and only if $g(n)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}B_k^nf(k)$, each pair being based on some reasonably well-known special function. We also state and prove an interesting generalization of a theorem of Rainville in this form.
Effects of a p38 MAP kinase inhibitor on bone ingrowth and tissue differentiation in rabbit chambers
Goodman, S.B.,Ma, T.,Spanogle, J.,Chiu, R.,Miyanishi, K.,Oh, K.,Plouhar, P.,Wadsworth, S.,Smith, R.L. Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2007 Journal of biomedical materials research. Part A Vol.a81 No.2
<P>The effects of an oral p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitor and polyethylene particles separately and together on tissue differentiation in the bone harvest chamber (BHC) in rabbits over a 3-week treatment period were investigated. The harvested tissue was analyzed histomorphometrically for markers of bone formation (percentage of bone area), osteoblasts (alkaline phosphatase staining), and osteoclasts (CD51, the α chain of the vitronectin receptor). Polyethylene particles decreased the percentage of bone ingrowth and staining for alkaline phosphatase. The p38 MAPK inhibitor alone decreased alkaline phosphatase staining. When the oral p38 MAPK inhibitor was given and the chamber contained polyethylene particles, there was a suppression of bone ingrowth and alkaline phosphatase staining. In contrast to oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and local Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) administration, the oral p38 MAPK inhibitor alone did not suppress bone formation when given during the initial phase of tissue differentiation. Particle-induced inflammation and the foreign body reaction were not curtailed when the p38 MAPK inhibitor was given simultaneously with particles. Additional experiments are needed to establish the efficacy of p38 MAPK inhibitor administration on mitigating an established inflammatory and foreign body reaction that parallels the clinical situation more closely. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
