A 57-year-old Japanese female was considered for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) due to end-stage liver cirrhosis caused by primary biliary cholangitis with portal vein thrombosis (PVT) formation. A 26-year-old daughter of the patient was selected as a living donor; however, a computed tomography examination revealed trifurcated-type portal vein anomaly (PVA). Preoperative liver volumetry showed that the right lobe graft was necessary for the recipient; therefore, reconstruction of the portal vein bifurcation during LDLT was necessary. We planned to extract the recipient’s own hepatic vein grafts after total hepatectomy, and these would be attached with anterior and posterior portal branches as jump grafts. We performed laparoscopic donor hepatectomy as usual, and the recipient’s hepatic vein grafts were anastomosed on the bench. Then, the liver graft was inserted, and the hepatic vein reconstruction was routinely performed. We confirmed the alignment between the recipient’s portal vein and the bridged hepatic vein graft of the liver graft’s posterior branch, and anastomosed these two vessels. Moreover, we confirmed the front flow and expansion of the reconstructed posterior branch by declamping only the suprapancreatic side of the portal vein. The decision regarding the punch-out location was crucial. We confirmed the alignment between the reconstructed posterior branch and the bridged hepatic vein graft of the anterior branch, and anastomosed these two vessels employing the punched-out technique. In LDLT, liver transplant surgeons occasionally encounter living donors with PVA or recipients with PVT. Our contrivance may be useful when the liver graft needs reconstruction of portal vein bifurcation.

How could we conceptualize and express the abstract feelings of 'love' in our daily lives? The cognitive semantics claim that it can be shaped by the metaphorical conceptualization of abstract emotional states. According to Kὅvecses(2005), physiological metonymy provides cognitive motivation to metaphorical conceptualization, and metaphorical conceptualization is generally considered to be natural because it is founded on physiological metonymy. This paper looks at the process how the emotion of love could be conceptualized in order to understand the fact that metonymic experience becomes the foundation of metaphorical conceptualization. It especially focus on the cognitive correlation of metonymy and metaphors through Shin Seung Hun‘s songs. This study also tries to extend to community perspective so that it could look further into the Korean public’s cultural characteristics towards love by means of metonymic experience on which to base the metaphor conceptualization. Effect of Additive Elements on Electrochemical Behavior of Passive Films on Fe-18Cr Alloy

Electrochemical behaviour of Fe-18Cr-X (X: Al, Si, Ti, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, and W, 0.5-4 at.%) alloy thin films deposited on Si wafer by ion beam sputtering technique was examined in order to discuss the effect of alloying elements which are completely dissolved in the alloy. Polarisation curves measured in 0.1 krnol m" H2S04 revealed that active dissolution was suppressed by Ni, Nb, Mo, Cu and Ti, but was almost not affected by Al, Si, Mn. Pitting corrosion resistance in acid chloride solutions was extremely improved by Nb, Mo, Ti. On the other hand, Al, Si, Mn exhibited almost no change in pitting potential. Reactivation in sulphuric acid was suppressed by Mo, Nb, Ni, Ti, but not affected or slightly enhanced by Si and Mn. It is noticeable that addition of Nb is especially beneficial for preventing both pitting corrosion and reactivation. The corrosion behaviour of Fe-Cr alloys are discussed in terms of the stability of passive film which is influenced by minute additives incorporated in the film.

As a number of wind power generation systems have been installed in power systems in the world, frequency fluctuations due to output power variations from wind farms have become a serious problem. Battery systems have been studied for smoothing the output variations and decreasing the resulting frequency fluctuations. Among these studies, efficient design of battery systems is one of the most important subjects from a point of view of cost. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the smoothing effect between the conventional moving average method and a new method based on frequency response analysis.

Accompanying the wave of liberalization in motion since the mid 1980s, trade complementarity and its underlying structure of comparative advantage have started to dictate the directions of international trade flows. The vibrant FDI-export- led Asian growth has revealed the role of FDI as a financial gravity for trade integration in the APEC region. Analyses of forces underlying trade integration using trade gravity models with dummies for regional trading arrangements, augmented by the additions of trade complementarity and FDI flows as gravity variables of emerging significance, suggest that 1) APEC is more potent in the creation of intra-regional trade compared to other regional trading arrangements (RTAs); 2) intra-regional trade generation is much more significant in North-North and North-South RTAs as compared to that for the South-South RTAs; 3) trade complementarity is a significant determinant of the directions of trade, and its significance has grown since the mid 1980s with reductions in trade distortions; and 4) inward FDI is a significant determinant of the direction of intra-APEC trade transactions.
Estimated degree of discomfort for instantaneous pulsation generated by motion base system

An issue involved in the recent development of visual-vestibular driving simulator systems is the simulator sickness felt by the observers. While numerous studies have focused on the effect of the optokinetic factor, there are few data on those of the vestibular factor. The major role of a driving simulator’s vestibular cues is to represent the acceleration caused by rotating in 3D space. Observers, thus, might frequently experience the instantaneous pulsation triggered by the accelerating scene in the high-realistic contents. The discomfort appears to be proportional to the amount of rotation; thus, clarifying the extent of human tolerance for such a stimulus should maintain the reality and comfortableness. We report two findings that quantitatively estimate the discomfort for instantaneous pulsation provided generated by motion base system. First, we used a psychophysical method to clarify the threshold of discomfort for pulsations around pitch and roll axes. We also present the effect of the visually predictive sign and observers’ attributions on the threshold. Second, we present various models that, by synthesizing the function of discomfort obtained from the data on the independent direction around pitch and roll, reconstruct observers’ discomfort when they are rotated in the general direction.
