In this paper, a generation procedure of 3-D surface topography data with specified parameters using non-causal 2-D AR(auto-regressive) model is described. The aim of this study is to establish generation procedure of 3-D surface topography for numerical simulations that deal with random surface topography directly and contribute to surface topography design. AR model can express surface topography as linear weighted summation of surface topography itself. Non-causal 2-D AR model is an advanced model of causal 2-D AR model used in previous researches. AR parameters are estimated by algorithm of least squares and height distribution of the surface generated by 2-D AR model is modified by Johnson transformation. Parameters of spectral property and height distribution are required to generate 3-D surface topography. Several sets of 3-D surface topography with specified parameters are generated with the proposed method and evaluated against some surface parameters.

In this paper, the relationship among the 3-D surface topography parameters are studied. Several surface topography parameters that are important in tribology are calculated against various surface topography data. 3-D surface data with desired properties are generated by using the non-causal 2-D auto-regressive (AR) model. The non-causal 2-D AR model is a random 3-D surface topography model that can generate 3-D surface topography data with specified parameters.
Characterization and Generation of Machined Surfaces

In this paper, electrical discharge machined (EDM) surfaces machined with various machining parameters are characterized and simulated. Three-dimensional surface topography of EDM surfaces are measured by a stylus instrument. Surface topography is characterized with auto-correlation coefficient and height probability density functions. Then, EDM surfaces are modeled and computer-simulated by using the non-causal 2-D auto-regressive model. Simulation results show that EDM surfaces are characterized well by a few parameters.
Numerical Simulation of Tribological Phenomena Using Stochastic Models

Tribological phenomena such as wear or transfer are influenced by various factors and have complicated behavior. Therefore, it is difficult to predict the behavior of the tribological phenomena because of their complexity. But, those tribological phenomena can be considered simply as to transfer micro material particles from the sliding interface. Then, we proposed the numerical simulation method for tribological phenomena such as wear or transfer using stochastic process models. This numerical simulation shows the change of the 3-D surface topography. In this numerical simulation, initial 3-D surface roughness data are generated by the method of non-causal 2-D AR(autoregressive) model. Processes of wear and transfer for some generated initial 3-D surface data are simulated. Simulation results show successfully the change of the 3-D surface topography.

A serial printer sometimes generates a vertical striped pattern in the printing image. This is known as jitter and can be considered to be caused by vibration of the print-head carriage system. The vibration of carriage is due to a lot of factors, step driving of the stepping motor, meshing between the belt and the pulley, meshing of the reduction gears, and friction between the linear sliding bearing and the sliding shaft. In this paper, the motion of the carriage is examined concerned with the influence of the carriage is examined concerned with the influence of the friction. Frictional models based on roughness theory, adhesion theory and combined both are considered. 3-D surface data generated numerically are used for calculation of friction. Simulations of carriage motion are carried out with a numerical integration method. In this simulation, N.G.(no good) shaft and normal shaft are examined for the carriage motion. It is shown that the influence of the surface waviness of sliding shaft is larger than the surface roughness.

Using proteases, we produced a peptide mixture from fibroin of the silkworm Bombyx mori. Mice received D-galactose by subcutaneous injection for 8 weeks to accelerate aging, and then received the peptide mixture orally for 7 weeks. In the mice aged with D-galactose, the coefficient of friction of hair increased significantly up to 1.6-fold, but in the mice subsequently given the peptide mixture, it was normal. Scanning electron microscopy showed improved hair cuticles in the latter mice too. These results indicate that oral administration with peptides from Bombyx fibroin counters the aging of hair cuticles.

<P>The 2016 Gyeongju earthquake (M-L 5.8) was the largest instrumentally recorded inland event in South Korea. It occurred in the southeast of the Korean Peninsula and was preceded by a large M-L 5.1 foreshock. The aftershock seismicity data indicate that these earthquakes occurred on two closely collocated parallel faults that are oblique to the surface trace of the Yangsan fault. We investigate the rupture properties of these earthquakes using finite-fault slip inversion analyses. The obtained models indicate that the ruptures propagated NNE-ward and SSW-ward for the main shock and the large foreshock, respectively. This indicates that these earthquakes occurred on right-step faults and were initiated around a fault jog. The stress drops were up to 62 and 43 MPa for the main shock and the largest foreshock, respectively. These high stress drops imply high strength excess, which may be overcome by the stress concentration around the fault jog.</P>

<P>Gutmicrobiota can regulate the host energymetabolism; however, the underlying mechanisms that could involve gut microbiota-derived compounds remain to be understood. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects ofKetoA [10-oxo-12(Z)-octadecenoic acid]-a linoleic acidmetaboliteproduced by gut lactic acid bacteria-on whole-body energy metabolism and found that dietary intake of KetoA could enhance energy expenditure in mice, thereby protecting mice from diet-induced obesity. By using Ca2+ imaging and whole-cell patch-clamp methods, KetoA was noted to potently activate transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and enhance noradrenalin turnover in adipose tissues. In addition, KetoA up-regulated genes that are related to brown adipocyte functions, including uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) inwhite adipose tissue (WAT), whichwas later diminished in the presence of a b-adrenoreceptor blocker. By using obese and diabetic model KK-Ay mice, we further show that KetoA intake ameliorated obesity-associatedmetabolic disorders. In the absence of any observedKetoA-induced antiobesity effect or UCP1 up-regulation in TRPV1-deficient mice, we prove that the antiobesity effect of KetoAwas caused by TRPV1 activation-mediated browning inWAT.
