Pancreaticoduodenectomy with superior mesenteric artery first-approach combined total meso-pancreas excision for periampullary malignancies: A high-volume single-center experience with short-term outcomes

        Thanh Khiem Nguyen,Ham Hoi Nguyen,Tuan Hiep Luong,Kim Khue Dang,Van Duy Le,Duc Dung Tran,Van Minh Do,Hong Quang Pham,Hoan My Pham,Thi Lan Tran,Cuong Thinh Nguyen,Hong Son Trinh,Yosuke Inoue 한국간담췌외과학회 2024 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.28 No.1

Backgrounds/Aims: Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is the only radical treatment for periampullary malignancies. Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) first approach combined with total meso-pancreas (MP) excision was conducted to improve the oncological results. There has not been any previous research of a technique that combines the SMA first approach and total MP excision with a detailed description of the MP macroscopical shape. Methods: We prospectively assessed 77 patients with periampullary malignancies between October 2020 and March 2022 (18 months). All patients had undergone PD with SMA first approach combined total MP excision. The perioperative indications, clinical data, intra-operative index, R0 resection rate of postoperative pathological specimens (especially mesopancreatic margin), postoperative complications, and follow-up results were evaluated. Results: The median operative time was 289.6 min (178−540 min), the median intraoperative blood loss was 209 mL (30−1,600 mL). Microscopically, there were 19 (24.7%) cases with metastatic MP, and five cases (6.5%) with R1-resection of the MP. The number of lymph nodes (LNs) harvested and metastatic LNs were 27.2 (maximum was 74) and 1.8 (maximum was 16), respectively. Some (46.8%) patients had pancreatic fistula, but mostly in grade A, with 7 patients (9.1%) who required re-operations. Some 18.2% of cases developed postoperative refractory diarrhea. The rate of in-hospital mortality was 1.3%. Conclusions: The PD with SMA first approach combined TMpE for periampullary malignancies was effective in achieving superior oncological statistics (rate of MP R0-resection and number of total resected LNs) with non-inferior short-term outcomes. It is necessary to evaluate survival outcomes with long-term follow-up.

      • 2D Ultra Light-Weight Infant Pose Estimation with single branch network

        Viet Dung Nguyen,Thinh Nguyen-Quang,Minh Duc Nguyen,Ngoc Dung Bui 한국차세대컴퓨팅학회 2023 한국차세대컴퓨팅학회 학술대회 Vol.2023 No.12

The 2D and 3D pose estimation methods have now improved well in general performance but have not yet been emphasized in terms of speed and efficiency for the infant dataset and the existence of public data on infants is a significant challenge. Furthermore, clinical studies related to the analysis of the pose and movements of infants are attracting considerable attention. That motivated us to collect infant data and develop a lighter model for estimating infant poses that can run on edge devices and CPUs. Most current methods are characterized by complex structures and multiple parallel branches of inference to synthesize pose estimated results. In this project, we aim to refine the architecture of the pose estimation algorithm based on an approach of OpenPose-2016, for use on edge devices and training that model on 2D images. The proposed simplified model features a single-branch structure designed to estimate infant pose with a size of 4.09 million parameters. The model when executed undergo algorithmic complexity of 8.97 giga floating point operations per second (GFLOPS), allowing it to run at approximately 23 frames per second on a Core i5-10400f. The proposed methodology demonstrates compact dimensions while achieving superior performance compared to existing methods on the same self-collected infant dataset. It is hoped that this straightforward and pragmatic approach will establish a robust foundation and provide favorable conditions for future research in the application of pose estimation.

      • Mechanical Design of Robot Head with Human-like Emotions

Nguyen Khac Toan,Le Duc Thuan,Le Bao Long,Nguyen Truong Thinh 제어로봇시스템학회 2021 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2021 No.10

One of the fields that has detonated lately dependent on the AI platform is humanoid robots. The facial expressions of robots, then again, are getting less and less attention. The design of a robot head that communicates a wide range of human-like expressions is described in this paper. The eye-eyelid, lip-jaw, and neck were the three main parts of the robot head under investigation. Mechanical structure of human head such as number of degrees of freedom, size, ability of joints, and major muscle groups to create movements in each part are determined based on anatomy. Then, facial expressions are analyzed dependent on AUs to find out reasonable control points. The mechanical structures of each part were designed to try to replicate the movement and expression as closely as expected. Additionally, proportions, sizes, distances of the designs, such as CoP-CoP, tr-n, n-sn, and so on, must closely resemble those of a human head. The robot head in this article is designed and modeled on an Asian human head. The result of the design, the head section is made up of three mechanisms connected by a shaft that runs through the entire head. Through the experimental process, the robot head can perform 6 of the basic expressions and movements like a real human head.

      • Real exchange rate, FDI and foreign trade linkages

PHAM Thi Hong Hanh,Thinh Duc NGUYEN 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 2009 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 학술대회 Vol.2009 No.10

The abundance of theoretical models and empirical studies have analysed the possible links between foreign direct investment (FDI) and real exchange rate (RER), and between Exports and RER. It is, however, surprising that there was little empirical work investigating the relationships among exports, FDI and RER at once. The aim of this paper, therefore, attempts to fill the gap by econometrically testing for the linkages among these three in a co-integration framework, which is based on the East Asia - Vietnam trade relationship for the period 1990 - 2007. Our major finding provides an evidence of a number of statistically signifiant linkages. First, a real depreciation of Vietnam dong with respect to the foreign currency increases both FDI into Vietnam and trade flows from Vietnam to five Eastern Asian countries. Second, we observe: (i) a strong causality between FDI into Vietnam and the Vietnam imports from the FDI home country but (ii) a weakly causal linkage between FDI into Vietnam and the Vietnam exports to the FDI home country. This result suggests an open issue, which concerns the role of the performance of FDI flows into Vietnam from a specific Eastern Asian country in promoting the Vietnam exports to other Eastern Asian countries through cross-country spillovers channel. Third, these sets of relationships are consistent with the previous studies that support two ways through which the RER can affect trade flows: a direct effect on the relative price of goods and an indirect effect via FDJ channel.
