A new compound sensor for optical, electrical and ultrasonic measurements in the liquid
Takayuki Kitajima,Akira Kimoto 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
In this paper, a compound sensor is proposed for the measurement of ingredient concentration in liquid. In the proposed sensor, the optical property is measured by a light emitting diode (LED) and a phototransistor. In addition, the electrical and ultrasonic properties are measured by PVDF(Polyvinylidene Fluoride) films, which each electrode is constructed by the transparent conductive electrode (ITO electrode), arranged on the surfaces of the LED and phototransistor. In the experiment, the liquid with yellow color, ethanol and NaCl concentrations in distilled water was prepared, and the optical, electrical and ultrasonic properties of the liquid were measured by the proposed sensor. The result suggested that it was possible to measure three kinds of concentrations in the liquid by using the proposed sensor.
Acoustic correlates of L2 English stress
Takayuki Konishi,Jihyeon Yun,Mariko Kondo 한국음성학회 2018 말소리와 음성과학 Vol.10 No.1
This study compared the relative contributions of intensity, F0, duration and vowel spectra of L2 English lexical stress by Japanese and Korean learners of English. Recordings of Japanese, Korean and native English speakers reading eighteen 2 to 4 syllable words in a carrier sentence were analyzed using multiple regression to investigate the influence of each acoustic correlate in determining whether a vowel was stressed. The relative contribution of each correlate was calculated by converting the coefficients to percentages. The Japanese learner group showed phonological transfer of L1 phonology to L2 lexical prosody and relied mostly on F0 and duration in manifesting L2 English stress. This is consistent with the results of the previous studies. However, advanced Japanese speakers in the group showed less reliance on F0, and more use of intensity, which is another parameter used in native English stress accents. On the other hand, there was little influence of F0 on L2 English stress by the Korean learners, probably due to the transfer of the Korean intonation pattern to L2 English prosody. Hence, this study shows that L1 transfer happens at the prosodic level for Japanese learners of English and at the intonational level for Korean learners.

Brainstem gliomas are not common in adults, and the treatment strategies and their outcomes are lim- ited. Immunotherapy is emerging as a promising new modality for the treatment of these gliomas. Here, we report the first case of brainstem glioma treated with a combination of radiotherapy and au- tologous formalin-fixed tumor vaccine (AFTV). A 32-year-old man presented with left facial numbness and right hemiparesis, and was referred to our department. MRI and open biopsy indicated brainstem glioma, and he was specifically diagnosed with isocitrate dehydrogenase 1-mutant diffuse astrocytoma of WHO grade II. He was treated with stereotactic radiotherapy followed by AFTV three months later. MRI conducted at 42 months after the combination therapy showed a 91% decrease in tumor volume, and the regression was maintained for 5 years. Thus, combination treatment with radiotherapy and im- munotherapy may prove to be a promising alternative for the treatment of brainstem glioma.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the efficacy and safety of carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) granules in 2-stage sinus floor augmentation through the radiographic and histomorphometric assessment of bone biopsy specimens. Methods: Two-stage sinus floor augmentation was performed on 13 patients with a total of 17 implants. Radiographic assessment using panoramic radiographs was performed immediately after augmentation and was also performed 2 additional times, at 7±2 months and 18±2 months post-augmentation, respectively. Bone biopsy specimens taken from planned implant placement sites underwent micro-computed tomography, after which histological sections were prepared. Results: Postoperative healing of the sinus floor augmentation was uneventful in all cases. The mean preoperative residual bone height was 3.5±1.3 mm, and this was increased to 13.3±1.7 mm by augmentation with the CO3Ap granules. The mean height of the augmented site had decreased to 10.7±1.9 mm by 7±2 months after augmentation; however, implants with lengths in the range of 6.5 to 11.5 mm could still be placed. The mean height of the augmented site had decreased to 9.6±1.4 mm by 18±2 months post-augmentation. No implant failure or complications were observed. Few inflammatory cells or foreign body giant cells were observed in the bone biopsy specimens. Although there were individual differences in the amount of new bone detected, new bone was observed to be in direct contact with the CO3Ap granules in all cases, without an intermediate layer of fibrous tissue. The amounts of bone and residual CO3Ap were 33.8%±15.1% and 15.3%±11.9%, respectively. Conclusions: In this first demonstration, low-crystalline CO3Ap granules showed excellent biocompatibility, and bone biopsy showed them to be replaced with bone in humans. CO3Ap granules are a useful and safe bone substitute for two-stage sinus floor augmentation.

Background: Diagnosing partial tears of the medial meniscus (MM) posterior root is difficult. The aim of this study was to evaluate diagnostic values involved in conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of MM posterior root tears (MMPRTs) and find other MRI-based findings in patients with partial MMPRTs. Methods: Eighteen patients who had arthroscopically confirmed partial MMPRTs were included. As a control, 18 patients who underwent partial meniscectomy for other types of MM tears were evaluated. Isolated partial MMPRTs were classified into the following three types: type A, accurate partial stable tear (cleavage < 1/2 of root width); type B, bridged unstable root tear (cleavage ≥ 1/2 of root width); type C, complex horn tear expanded to the root. Conventional MRI-based findings of MMPRTs were evaluated between two groups (n = 23). Posterior root irregularity, bone marrow spot, and ocarina-like appearance showing several condensed circles in triangular meniscal horn (ocarina sign) were also evaluated. Results: Posterior root irregularity and bone marrow spot were frequently observed in the partial MMPRTs (47.8%), compared with the other MM tears (P = 0.007 and 0.023, respectively). The ocarina sign was detected in 69.6% of patients with partial MMPRTs. A significant difference between two groups was observed in a positive ratio of ocarina sign (P < 0.001). Types A, B, and C of the partial tear/damage were observed in three, eight, and seven patients, respectively. The ocarina sign was the most common MRI finding in each type of partial MMPRT. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that a characteristic MRI finding, “ocarina sign,” was frequently observed in patients with partial tear/damage of the MM posterior root. The ocarina sign was the most common MRI finding in several types of partial MMPRTs. Our results suggest that the ocarina sign may be useful to diagnose unnoticed partial MMPRTs. Level of evidence: IV, retrospective comparative study.
Geometric shape features extraction using a steady state partial differential equation system
Takayuki Yamada 한국CDE학회 2019 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.6 No.4
A unified method for extracting geometric shape features from binary image data using a steady-state partial differential equation (PDE) system as a boundary value problem is presented in this paper. The PDE and functions are formulated to extract the thickness, orientation, and skeleton simultaneously. The main advantage of the proposed method is that the orientation is defined without derivatives and thickness computation is not imposed a topological constraint on the target shape. A one-dimensional analytical solution is provided to validate the proposed method. In addition, two-dimensional numerical examples are presented to confirm the usefulness of the proposed method.
