Background/Aims: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients frequently have zinc deficiency. IBD patients with zinc deficiency have higher risks of IBD-related hospitalization, complications, and requiring surgery. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of zinc acetate hydrate (ZAH; Nobelzin) in IBD patients with zinc deficiency. Methods: IBD patients with zinc deficiency who received ZAH from March 2017 to April 2020 were registered in this 2-center, retrospective, observational study. Changes in serum zinc levels and disease activity (Crohn’s Disease Activity Index [CDAI]) before and after ZAH administration were analyzed. Results: Fifty-one patients with Crohn’s disease (CD, n=40) or ulcerative colitis (UC, n=11) were registered. Median serum zinc level and median CDAI scores significantly improved (55.5-91.0 μg/dL, P<0.001; 171.5-129, P<0.001, respectively) in CD patients 4 weeks after starting ZAH administration. Similarly, median serum zinc levels and CDAI scores significantly improved (57.0-81.0 μg/dL, P<0.001; 177-148, P=0.012, respectively) 20 weeks after starting ZAH administration. Similar investigations were conducted in groups where no treatment change, other than ZAH administration, was implemented; significant improvements were observed in both serum zinc level and CDAI scores. Median serum zinc levels in UC patients 4 weeks after starting ZAH administration significantly improved from 63.0 to 94.0 μg/dL (P=0.002), but no significant changes in disease activity were observed. One patient experienced side effects of abdominal discomfort and nausea. Conclusions: ZAH administration is effective in improving zinc deficiency and may contribute to improving disease activity in IBD. (Intest Res 2022;20:78-89)
Extraction of Linear Features from an AVNIR data of a Suburban City
Amano, Takako Sakurai,Naito, Takahiro,Iisaka, Joji,Takagi, Mikio 대한원격탐사학회 1997 International Symposium on Remote Sensing Vol.13 No.1
Various linear geographic features were extracted from an ADEOS AVNII2 multispectral image of a small suburban city. Spectral data were transformed and normalized into three images representing the proportions of vegetated, inorganic, and dark surfaces, and binarized at multiple threshold levels. Each pixel in each binary image was evaluated for line-likeness at the local level. Values of line-likeness were summed over all threshold levels. The main components of linear features were extracted by applying simple image algebra, morphological operations, and size operations to the resulting images. Additionally, higher spatial operations needed to extract finer details were explored.
Nonmagnetic Impurity Effect of the S = 1/2 Spin Ladder System (pipdH)2Cu1−xZnxBr4

We report the synthesis and the magnetic susceptibility of (pipdH)2Cu1−xZnxBr4(pipd=piperidinium), which is a nonmagnetic impurity-doped S = 1/2 spin ladder system. The sampleswere synthesized from a solution by using a slow evaporation method. Samples were confirmedto be in a single phase and to have the same crystal structure as the pure system (pipdH)2CuBr4by using X-ray diffraction measurements. To check the magnetic properties, we performed magneticsusceptibility and magnetization measurements with a superconducting quantum interferencedevice magnetometer. A plot of the inverse magnetic susceptibility indicates the presence of dominantantiferromagnetic coupling. The magnetic susceptibility shows a broad maximum due to lowdimensionality and a spin gap behavior related to the two-leg spin ladder at low temperature. Thespin gap and the Curie constants of Zn-doped samples, as estimated from an analysis of themagnetic susceptibility, monotonically decrease as the Zn concentration decreases. A nonmagneticimpurity of S = 1/2 spin ladder system affects the spin gap.
Magnetic Anisotropy of Tetragonal Rare-earth Compounds RRu2Al2B (R: Rare-earth Metals)

Recently, a new tetragonal compound CeRu2Al2B, which shows successive magnetic transitionsof antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic orders was discovered. In this paper, the results of magnetizationmeasurements on magnetically-aligned powder sample of CeRu2Al2B were reported. Highly-anisotropic behaviors between the magnetizations along the easy and the hard directionswere observed. The anisotropic behavior of the magnetizations could be explained qualitativelyby considering the crystalline-electric-field scheme with the

Kampo medicine, a Japanese traditional herbal medicine, has been used in clinical practice in Japan. The most appropriate Kampo formula should be chosen for each individual by the four diagnostic procedures. Fuku shin, the abdominal exam, is one of the most important approaches in the procedures. There are several abdominal conformations (signs) when administering Fuku shin. In Kampo medicine, psychiatric illness-marked by depression and anxiety-has been shown to be related with an abdominal conformation, Shin ka hi koh (Epigastric Obstructive Hardness). The aim was to see the occurrence of abdominal conformations in each level of depression and anxiety symptoms. Two hundred fifteen patients were assigned to high-, moderate-, or low-level psychiatric comorbidity based on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and were studied regarding the occurrence of major abdominal conformations. Moderate and high psychopathological groups showed the higher occurrence of Shin ka hi koh [Low, 21%; Moderate, 67%; High, 74%] (p < 0.0001). In conclusion, moderate and high psychopathological patients showed the higher occurrence of a specific abdominal sign.
