The Korean Version of Pandemic Stress Questionnaire: Validation in Korean Population

Objective: The spread of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has acted as a significant stressor among individuals, causing a variety of psychological problems. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of stress caused by COVID-19 by translating and validating the Pandemic Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) in Korean, which measures stressful event caused by COVID-19. Methods: A statistical analysis was performed on 167 participants. The scale’s internal consistency was verified using Cronbach’s α. Furthermore, a correlation analysis was carried out to examine the relationships between Perceived Stress Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire-7, Patient Health Questionnaire-15, and World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment Instrument Brief Form. Lastly, a multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of pandemic-related stressful events on depression, anxiety, and somatic symptoms. Results: Cronbach’s α for Korean version of PSQ (K-PSQ) Severity was 0.79, and that for K-PSQ Event was 0.78. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that pandemic stress events have an effect on anxiety and somatic symptoms. Conclusion: The K-PSQ is a tool in which individuals can simultaneously measure the occurrence of stressful events caused by COVID-19 and the severity of stress that is often experienced as a result. It is expected that this tool will be useful in the mental health field for measuring COVID-19-related stress.

지난 2022년 제주도 애월읍 일대에서 콩 해충으로 알려진 콩은무늬밤나방(Ctenoplusia agnata) 성충이 검거세 미밤나방(Agrotis ipsilon)의 성페로몬 트랩에 대량으로 포획되었다. 검거세미밤나방 트랩은 목적 해충에 대한 포획 효율을 조사하기 위해 세 구성 성분, (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate, (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate를 3:1 비율로 고정하고 (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate를 0, 1, 6, 10, 15로 각각 비율을 달리한 미끼를 사용하였다. 각 조성별 콩은무늬밤나방 성충 포획수를 비교한 결과, (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate가 첨가되지 않은 트랩에서 주당 평균 약 17.96마리로, 가장 많은 수의 개체가 포획된 것으로 확인되었다. 반면, (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate가 가장 많이 함유된 트랩에서 주당 평균 약 2.5마리로 가장 적은 개체가 포획된 것으로 파악되었다. 이에 (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate의 비율이 증가할 수록, 포획되는 콩은무늬밤나방의 개체 수가 감소되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 검거세미밤나방 미끼의 주성분인 Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate는 기존의 콩은무늬밤나방 유인 성분 중 하나이기도 하여 해당 성분의 구성비가 유인에 영향을 미쳤다는 것을 예측할 수 있다. 추후에 해당 트랩들과 시판 중인 콩은무늬밤나방 성페로몬 트랩을 설치하 여 포획 양상을 비교할 필요성이 요구된다.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Chemicals such as phthalates and phenolics have been associated with metabolic markers in humans. However, most studies have only looked at a limited number of chemicals, and little is known about their potential effects on adipokines in humans. In the present study, the associations between dozens of urinary chemicals, including phthalate metabolites and phenolics, and markers related to insulin resistance as well as major adipokines, were assessed among the women of reproductive age (<I>n</I> = 459, between 20 and 48 years of age) recruited from major cities in Korea between 2015 and 2016. Adipokines such as adiponectin and leptin, and insulin resistance related markers such as glucose and insulin, were analyzed in serum. Associations between urinary chemicals and the adipokines or insulin resistance related markers were assessed in two steps. First, ordinary least squares (OLS) regression was used to assess the association of each urinary chemical with the adipokines or insulin resistance related markers (single-pollutant model). Second, several chemicals were selected using elastic net regression and were subsequently analyzed with OLS regression model (multi-pollutant model), considering simultaneous exposure to multiple chemicals. In both single- and multi-pollutant models, several urinary chemicals consistently showed significant associations with adipokines or the insulin resistance related markers. The sum of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate metabolites (ΣDEHPm) and ethyl paraben (EtP) were associated with increased serum adiponectin levels. Urinary ΣDEHPm levels also showed positive associations with fasting glucose. Moreover, urinary mono-methyl phthalate (MMP), mono-isobutyl phthalate (MiBP), and bisphenol S (BPS) levels showed positive associations with the homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Interestingly, urinary propyl paraben (PrP) levels showed a negative association with HOMA-IR, in both models. Our observations show that among many consumer chemicals, phthalates may affect serum adipokines, and thus glucose, and insulin resistance in adult females. Farmed seafood provides many essential components, such as protein and unsaturated fatty acids, to Korean and global populations. Seafood safety is of great social and food concerns associated with health implications to humans. Harmful pesticides and some unintentional organic contaminants could be present in farmed species, their environments and diet. Suspect and non-target analysis is the reliable and efficient analytical tool for prioritization of contaminants of emerging concerns in environmental and biotic samples. In this study, suspect and non-target analysis (S/NTA) was conducted using gas chromatography coupled to time-of-flight mass spectrometer (GC/TOF) to identify contaminants of emerging concerns in various farmed seafood highly consumed in Korea. A total of 59 farmed seafood was collected from local fish markets and aquaculture farms as representative samples. Suspect analysis was performed with in-house library established for qualification and qualifier ions, isotopic ratios, and retention times of 310 pesticides. Thirteen pesticides as non-monitored or unregulated contaminants were detected in the representative samples. Species-dependent occurrences of organic contaminants were observed due to different diets and farming environments. The occurrence of non-monitored compounds in farmed seafood suggests unintentional contamination in freshwater and saltwater environments or diets. Our findings suggest a useful tool to identify and prioritize contaminants of emerging concerns for the management and safety of organic contaminants in farmed seafood.
A semi-permanent and durable nanoscale-crack-based sensor by on-demand healing

<P>Although sensitivity and durability are desirable in a sensor, both of them cannot be easily achieved. Site-specific and effective signal acquisition on the limited area of a sensor inevitably allows fatigue accumulation and contamination. For example, an ultrasensitive nanoscale-crack-based sensor for detecting a mechanical stimulus with tremendous sensitivity (a gauge factor greater than 2000 under 2% strain), yet limited durability (up to a few thousand stretching cycles in tensile tests) has been presented previously. Herein, we suggest a simple yet robust nanoscale-crack-based sensor that achieves remarkable durability through the use of a self-healable polymer. The self-healable polymer helps the crack gap recover and maintain high stability for 1 million cycles under 2% strain. Moreover, site-specific recovery with infrared light irradiation was demonstrated with monolithic arrayed sensors. The proposed strategy provides a unique solution to achieving highly enhanced durability and high mechanosensitivity, which are typically incompatible.</P>

The purpose of this study is to provide examples of design planning which can satisfy the various tastes and needs of consumers through developing fashion designs that combine storytelling and kidults, and that are easy to link in emotional terms. A literature study was conducted in relation to storytelling and kidult fashion, and analyzed the theoretical elements and types of storytelling, as well as looking at the definition of “kidult fashion” and cases thereof. Based on the theoretical analysis, the storytelling of “The town musician of Bremen” was analyzed, and five representative scenes were selected according to stages of plot, a component of storytelling. The design was developed to present lively, diverse kidult fashion designs, which were planned according to two contrasting concepts. Concept One, “A Dark Dream”, utilizes motifs developed in Scenes One and Three, and is a kidult-like pattern, but uses achromatic colors as its main color scheme, an expression found in modern everyday wear. Concept Two, Ride a Balloon , utilizes Scenes Two, Four and Five and uses pink, red and pastel shades as the main colors to emphasize humor and kidult fashion s vivacious and energetic side. Using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, two patterns were developed per scene, with motifs representing the main elements of that scene. Using the patterns thus developed, two color schemes were deployed and implemented in a virtual outfit with 3D mapping, which is presented as the final result.
