Ratcheting analysis of joined conical cylindrical shells

Jaskaran Singh,B.P. Patel 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.55 No.5

The ratcheting and strain cyclic behaviour of joined conical-cylindrical shells under uniaxial strain controlled, uniaxial and multiaxial stress controlled cyclic loading are investigated in the paper. The elasto-plastic deformation of the structure is simulated using Chaboche non-linear kinematic hardening model in finite element package ANSYS 13.0. The stress-strain response near the joint of conical and cylindrical shell portions is discussed in detail. The effects of strain amplitude, mean stress, stress amplitude and temperature on ratcheting are investigated. Under strain symmetric cycling, the stress amplitude increases with the increase in imposed strain amplitude. Under imposed uniaxial/multiaxial stress cycling, ratcheting strain increases with the increasing mean/amplitude values of stress and temperature. The abrupt change in geometry at the joint results in local plastic deformation inducing large strain variations in the vicinity of the joint. The forcing frequency corresponding to peak axial ratcheting strain amplitude is significantly smaller than the frequency of first linear elastic axial vibration mode. The strains predicted from quasi static analysis are significantly smaller as compared to the peak strains from dynamic analysis.

      • Serendipity in solution–GQDs zeolitic imidazole frameworks nanocomposites for highly sensitive detection of sulfide ions

        Sammi, Heena,Kukkar, Deepak,Singh, Jaskaran,Kukkar, Preeti,Kaur, Rajwinder,Kaur, Harmanpreet,Rawat, Mohit,Singh, Gurjinder,Kim, Ki-Hyun Elsevier 2018 Sensors and actuators. B, Chemical Vol.255 No.3

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>An innovative and facile sensing approach for common inorganic anions present in aqueous media has been developed using nanocomposites of europium doped graphene quantum dots (GQDs:Eu) with zeolitic imidazole frameworks (ZIF-8). GQDs:Eu, prepared initially by solvothermal approach (at <10nm in diameter), exhibited a strong and intense blue emission at 430nm when dispersed in ethanol. ZIF-8 nanocubes, synthesized on a parallel basis, were in a fairly uniform size distribution (e.g., 185nm in diameter). The formation of nanocomposites by surface adsorption (between GQDs:Eu and ZIF-8) led to significant increase in fluorescence intensity as observed through photo-luminescence spectroscopy. Their interactions with anions (e.g., in terms of variations in the fluorescence intensity) were initially checked against sulfide and other anionic species (e.g., Br−, Cl−, F−, and NO3 −). Among the tested ions, GQDs:Eu-ZIF-8 were found to effectively and sensitively detect sulfide (S2−) with significantly high turn on fluorescence. The feasibility of this nanosensing system was explored further toward the detection of S2− ions. These nanocomposites were thus demonstrated to be feasible for solution-based sensing of S2− ions with high reproducibility and sensitivity at limit of detection (LOD) of 0.12ppm.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> An innovative approach for detection of pollutant sulfide ions is proposed. </LI> <LI> The method is built based upon turn on fluorescence intensity of GQDs:Eu in the matrix structure of Zeolitic Imidazole Framework Nanoparticles. </LI> <LI> Among the tested ions (e.g. S2−, Br−, Cl−, F−, and NO3 −), the nanocomposites sensitively detect sulfide (S2−) with significantly high turn on fluorescence. </LI> <LI> This nanocomposite-based sensing method exhibit high reproducibility and sensitivity at limit of detection (LOD) of 0.12ppm. </LI> <LI> This approach can be extended further to the detection of sulfide ions from environmental samples. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>An innovative and facile sensing approach for solution-based sensing of sulfide (S2−) anions using nanocomposites of europium doped Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs:Eu) with Zeolitic Imidazole Frameworks (ZIF-8) has been reported. 3D printing for spine pathologies: a state‑of‑the‑art review

        Shrutika Sharma,Sanchita Pahuja,Vishal Gupta,Gyanendra Singh,Jaskaran Singh 대한의용생체공학회 2023 Biomedical Engineering Letters (BMEL) Vol.13 No.4

Three-Dimensional Printing has advanced throughout the years in the field of biomedical science with applications, especiallyin spine surgeries. 3D printing has the ability of fabricating highly complex structures with ease and high dimensionalaccuracy. The complexity of the spine's architecture and the inherent dangers of spinal surgery bring the evaluation of 3Dprinted models into consideration. This article summarizes the benefits of 3D printing based models for application inspine pathology. 3D printing technique is extensively used for fabrication of anatomical models, surgical guides and patientspecific implants (PSI). The 3D printing based anatomical models assist in preoperative planning and training of students. Furthermore, 3D printed models can be used for improved communication and understanding of patients about the spinaldisorders. The use of 3D printed surgical guides help in the stabilization of the spine during surgery, improving post proceduraloutcomes. Improved surgical results can be achieved by using PSIs that are tailored for patient specific needs. Finally, this review discusses the limitations and potential future scope of 3D printing in spine pathologies. 3D printing is still inits infancy, and further research would provide better understanding of the technology's true potential in spinal procedures.
