Enhanced antibacterial profile of nanoparticle impregnated cellulose foam filter paper for drinking water filtration

        Jain, Shikha,Bhanjana, Gaurav,Heydarifard, Solmaz,Dilbaghi, Neeraj,Nazhad, Mousa M.,Kumar, Vanish,Kim, Ki-Hyun,Kumar, Sandeep Elsevier 2018 Carbohydrate Polymers Vol.202 No.-

Abstract

Filtration is a promising water treatment method to purify drinking water. To develop highly efficient drinking water filter paper, water-resistant cellulose foam paper with a high wet strength property was fabricated using diverse metal oxide (e.g., copper oxide (CuO), zinc oxide (ZnO), and silver oxide (Ag2O)) nanoparticles. These nanoparticles were synthesized using the hydrothermal reaction method. Their morphological structures were studied using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The presence of coated nanoparticles on the cellulose foam filter was verified by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) methods. The antibacterial performance of different types of modified cellulose foam filters was studied against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, and B. cereus strains using the zone of inhibition test. The antibacterial profile of the cellulose foam filter impregnated with Ag2O nanoparticles, when tested against different types of bacteria, exhibited higher antibacterial activity than the cellulose foam filter impregnated with ZnO and CuO nanoparticles.

Highlights

Facile synthesis of nanoparticles using hydrothermal method.

Impregnation of nanoparticles in water-resistant cellulose foam paper.

Morphological, structural, and elemental characterization using SEM and EDX.

Antibacterial evaluation of impregnated paper against gram positive and gram negative bacteria.

Enhanced antibacterial profile of nanoparticle modified filter paper compared to unmodified paper.

Synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles via green route

        Niharika Nagar,Shikha Jain,Pranav Kachhawah,Vijay Devra 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.10

The development of competent green chemistry methods for synthesis of metal nanoparticles has become a main focus of researchers. In this study we report the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNps) by reduction of silver nitrate, using leaf broth of Azadirakta indica (Neem). The plant leaf broth simultaneously acts as reducing agent as well as capping agent at 30 oC. The effect of different concentration of silver ions, percentage of leaf broth and temperature on morphology of dispersed silver nanoparticles was studied. The formation of silver nanoparticles in dispersion was monitored through the analysis of absorbance spectra by UV-Visible spectrophotometer at different stages during the process of synthesis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed that silver nanoparticles were pure and monodispersed and size was ranging from 9-56 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis indicates prominent bands of absorbance, which are responsible for reducing of Ag+ ions and stabilization of obtained silver nanoparticles. Results confirmed this protocol as simple, rapid, cost effective, eco-friendly and alternative conventional physical/chemical methods.

CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PADABHYANG (FOOT MASSAGE) AS CHKSHUHYA (EYE SIGHT PROMOTER) W.S.R TO TIMIRA-REFRACTIVE ERROR (PRATHAM & DWITIYA PATALGATA)

Nitin, Pandey,Nishant, Jain,Pankaj, Rajvanshi,Shikha, Maurya Cellmed Orthocellular Medicine and Pharmaceutical 2020 셀메드 (CellMed) Vol.10 No.1

In Ayurveda the eye is clarified as the most essential among all the indriyas (sensory organs), however because of changed way of life and quick pacing time we are experiencing such huge numbers of scatters, among them eye issue is most imperative as eye is the window of wellbeing. Our old acharyas (ancient scholars) have clarified about the different every day routine to be pursued for keeping up eye wellbeing, Padabhyang (foot massage) is one of them referenced in Ayurvedic dincharya (daily routine) and it has been depicted as Chakshushya (eye sight promoter) implies it improves our vision. So thinking about it, Padabhyang (foot massage) with and without snehan (oleation) was chosen for the present clinical preliminary to discover its adequacy in Timira (refractive error), result were statistically significant in subjective parameters but no change was found in objective parameter. We know, this restricted investigation has not secured every one of the angles but rather clinical preliminaries show empowering results. More study is necessary on large sample to draw the final inferences.

      • Oral Cancer Awareness of the General Public in Gorakhpur City, India

Agrawal, Mamta,Pandey, Sushma,Jain, Shikha,Maitin, Shipra Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10

Objectives: Global cancer statistical data show that India has one of the highest incidence rates of oral cancer worldwide. Early detection is extremely important as it results in lower morbidity and death rates. The present study was undertaken to assess awareness of oral cancer and knowledge of its early signs and risk factors in the general public of the semi-urban Gorakhpur area of Uttar Pradesh (India). It was also intended to educate the same population for early detection by increasing their ability to recognize signs and risk factors. Method: A questionnaire-based household survey was conducted over a period of one month in different parts of Gorakhpur district, a region where tobacco use is apparently very high. A total of 2,093 persons participated in the survey. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software to assess and associate oral cancer awareness with the prevalence, and abstract risk factors, as well as other confounding variables. Results: The general awareness, knowledge of signs and risk factors of oral cancer were found to be proportionate to the literacy level with the highest rate of awareness being among high school and graduates and lowest among illiterates. It was also observed that on most of these dimensions the younger age groups (<30 years) were significantly more knowledgeable. Conclusion: Overall, the awareness of oral cancer in the high-risk population of Gorakhpur was not satisfactory, pointing to a need for further dissemination of information on this issue and its associated risks. This is especially important for the youngsters, as this may possibly help them keep away from the deleterious habit of tobacco indulgence in any form. If necessary risk factor cessation counselling should be provided.

        Image Visual Description Model

Rishabh Kanodiya,Smriti Mittal,Shikha Jain 대한전자공학회 2020 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.9 No.2

Image captioning is a keen area of interest for many researchers. With the evolution of machine learning and deep learning, different models are being applied to improve the accuracy and time complexity of the model. However, further improvement in terms of accuracy and time complexity is still an open research challenge. This paper’s contribution is twofold. First, we propose an image captioning model (ImgCap) using a VGG16 Convolution Neural Network and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) to generate the captions. Next, a similarity metric (SimM) is proposed in order to compare the generated captions with the expected ones. Furthermore, the proposed model is compared with an existing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)-based model. We observe that the proposed model outperforms the existing one in terms of both accuracy and time complexity.
