The work presented in this paper represents a study of the rate and extent of transdermal penetration of three synthetic hexapeptides consisting only of glycine (Gly) and phenylalanine (Phe) as the constituent amino acids and they include Phe-Gly-Gly-Gly-Gly-Gly (Pep-1), Phe-Phe-Gly-Gly-Gly-Gly (Pep-2), and Phe-Phe-Phe-Gly-Gly-Gly (Pep-3). The present study demonstrated the extent to which the peptides having a high metabolic stability were transdermally transported from the various vehicles. The results of this study appear to indicate that minor differences in the lipophilicity of the synthetic hexapeptides have a slight influence on the rate and extent of transport. In the presence of terpene permeation enhancers, together with ethanol (i.e., menthone/EtOH, carveol?/EtOH or cineole/EtOH), the peptides were more rapidly penetrated through the skin and among the terpenes tested, cineole was the most effective for all three peptides. The maximum enhancement ratio of approximately 2 was achieved by cineole in 50% ethanol solution.
An Archaeochemical Microstructural Study on Koryo Inlaid Celadon

With the invention of the inlaying technique for celadon in the latter half of the 12th century, the Koryo potters reached a new height of artistic and scientific achievement in ceramics chemical technology. Inlaid celadon shards, collected in 1991 during the surface investigation of Kangjin kilns found on the southwestern shore of South Korea, were imbedded in epoxy resin and polished for cross-section examination. Backscattered electron images were taken with an electron microprobe equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometer. The spectrometer was also used to determine the composition of micro-areas. Porcelain stone, weathered rock of quartz, mica, and feldspar composition were found to be the raw material for the body and important components in the glaze and white inlay. The close similarity between glaze and black inlay in the microstructure suggests that the glaze material was modified by adding clay with high iron content, such as biotite, for use as black inlay. The deep soft translucent quality of celadon glaze is brought about by its microstructure of bubbles, remnant and devitrified minerals, and the schlieren effect.

Vitamin K₃(menadione) has been shown to exhibit a broad range of antitumor activity in human cells as well as a phosphatase cofactor. It also imposed lower level of toxicity than other cancer chemotherapeutic drugs of quinone structure. Juan and Wu have recently demonstrated that the action of menadione is dose-dependent and cell cycle-specific. In this study, we have examined the effect of menadione in the action of cdc25 PTPase which is important of the control of cell cycle progression by the signal transduction pathway. Our mechanistic analysis with the model reaction has led to a new interpretation of the role of menadione. We also investigated that thiolate addition of cdc25 PTPase to menadione leads to directly to irreversible inhibition by covalent modification.
The Effect of Dilution with 10% Dextrose Solution on the Potency of Botulinum Toxin A

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the potency-stabilizing effects of two different diluents of botulinum toxin A (10% dextrose solution and 0.9% saline). Methods: A mouse lethality bioassay was undertaken. Ninety mice were divided into experimental and control groups which received varying dosages in subgroups of 10. The experimental group was injected with botulinum toxin A diluted with 10% dextrose solution and the control group was injected with botulinum toxin A diluted with 0.9% saline. A 72 hours after intraperitoneal injection, the number of dead mice was counted to confirm median lethal dose ($LD_{50}$) of each group. Results: The value of $LD_{50}$ in the experimental group was approximately 0.131 mL (1.31 U) and the value of $LD_{50}$ in the control group was approximately 0.107 mL (1.07 U). The potency preservation rate of the experimental group was estimated to be 93.5% and that of the control group was estimated to be 76.3%. Conclusions: Dilution with 10% dextrose solution displayed less potency loss than 0.9% saline.
The Role of Cultural Worldviews in the Risk Perception and Denial of Climate Change

This study analyzed the effect of cultural worldviews on risk perception and denial of climate change through an online survey. We found that individualistic worldviews significantly affect individuals’ climate change risk perceptions, even when we controlled demographic and psychological factors. However, our analysis also indicated that cultural worldviews alone do not significantly impact on climate change denial, rather interactions with collective efficacy and uncertainty is significant in this regard. Specifically, among individuals with higher levels of uncertainty, those with higher hierarchical tendencies were more likely to deny climate change than those with lower hierarchical tendencies. Meanwhile, among individuals with low collective efficacy, those with higher hierarchical tendencies were more likely to deny climate change than those with lower hierarchical tendencies. This paper concludes by discussing the results from the perspective of the Korean context and explaining the practical implications of our findings for policymakers and climate change communicators.
