The Recent Tendency of Environmentally-friendly Tackifiers

Sakurai, Yoshihiro The Society of Adhesion and Interface 2007 접착 및 계면 Vol.8 No.1

It is a main trend not to use organic solvents in the adhesive industry from the recent environmental and safe points of view. For example, water-based, hot-melt, or UV curable adhesives are being investigated. Several different kinds of tackifiers that are formulated in the adhesives in order to give them more functional properties like initial tack and higher adhesion, etc., have been proposed to meet the recent trend. Firstly, the characteristics and fundamental properties of the respective materials are presented. In Japan, the trend to develop the water-based adhesives is most remarkable. While the environmental regulations are getting harder, Arakawa Chemical has been spending a lot of energy for the research, and developed toluene-free and solvent free tackifier dispersions that are presented precisely.

MAGNETIC HELICITY OF SOLAR ACTIVE REGIONS AND ITS IMPLICATIONS

SAKURAI T.,HAGINO M. The Korean Astronomical Society 2003 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.36 No.suppl1

We have studied the magnetic helicity of active regions by using the data from (1) the photo-electric magnetograph of the Okayama Observatory (1983-1995) and (2) the video magnetograph of NAOJ/Mitaka (1992-2000). The latitude distribution of helicity showed a tendency that the regions in the north (south) hemisphere have negative (positive) helicities, respectively, which is already known as the hemispheric sign rule. If we look into the sign of helicity as a function of time, the sign rule was less definite or was reversed sometimes in the sunspot minimum phase. We also studied the relation between the magnetic helicity and the sunspot tilt angles, and found that these two quantities are positively correlated, which is opposite to the expectation of a theoretical model. The implications of this cycle-phase dependence of helicity signs and the correlation between magnetic he Ii city and sunspot tilt angles are discussed.

        Biomaterials toward Future Medicine

Sakurai, Yasuhisa The Korea Society of Medical and Biological Engine 1986 의공학회지 Vol.7 No.2

It is well known that nonlinear propagation characteristics of the wave in the tissue may give very useful information for the medical diagnoisis. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. Results show the superiority of the proposed method to the conventional method using power spectrum and also its usefulness for the tissue characterization.

Transfer kinetics of perfluorooctane sulfonate from water and sediment to a marine benthic fish, the marbled flounder ( <i>Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae</i> )

        Sakurai, Takeo,Kobayashi, Jun,Kinoshita, Kyoko,Ito, Nozomi,Serizawa, Shigeko,Shiraishi, Hiroaki,Lee, Jeong-Hoon,Horiguchi, Toshihiro,Maki, Hideaki,Mizukawa, Kaoruko,Imaizumi, Yoshitaka,Kawai, Toru,Suz Wiley Periodicals 2013 Environmental toxicology and chemistry Vol.32 No.9

<P>The authors investigated the kinetics of transfer of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) from water, suspended sediment, and bottom sediment to a marine benthic fish, the marbled flounder (<I>Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae</I>). Fish were exposed in 3 treatments to PFOS in combinations of these exposure media for 28 d and then depurated for 84 d. A major part (37–66%) of PFOS in the fish was in the carcass (i.e., whole body minus muscle and internal organs). Three first-order-kinetic models that differed in exposure media, that is, 1) sum of dissolved and particulate phases and sediment; 2) dissolved phase, particulate phase, and sediment; and 3) dissolved phase only, were fitted to the data assuming common rate constants among the treatments. The uptake efficiency of dissolved PFOS at the respiratory surfaces was estimated to be 3.2% that of oxygen, and the half-life of PFOS in the whole body to be 29 d to 31 d. The better fit of models 1 and 2 and the values of the estimated uptake rate constants suggested that the PFOS in suspended and bottom sediments, in addition to that dissolved in water, contributed to the observed body burden of the fish. Based on an evaluation of several possible contributing factors to the uptake of PFOS from suspended and bottom sediments, the authors propose that further investigation is necessary regarding the mechanisms responsible for the uptake. <I>Environ Toxicol Chem</I> 2013;32:2009–2017. © 2013 The Authors. <I>Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry</I> Published by Wiley Periodicals, Inc., on behalf of SETAC. • Molecular Dynamics of the M intermediate of photoactive yellow protein in solution

        Sakurai, Minoru,Shiozawa, Mariko,Arai, Shohei,Inoue, Yoshio,Kamiya, Narutoshi,Higo, Junichi Korean Society of Photoscience 2002 Journal of Photosciences Vol.9 No.2

PYP consists of a water-soluble apoprotein and 4-hydroxycinnamyl chromophore bound to Cys69 via thiolester linkage, Upon absorption of a photon, the photocycle is initiated, leading to formation of several photo-intermediates. Among them, M intermediate is important to understand the signal transduction mechanism of PYP, because it is a putative signaling state. As well known, the dynamics of a protein is closely correlated with the occurrence of its function. Here we report the results of IO ns molecular dynamics (MD) simulation for the M intermediate in aqueous solution and discuss the characteristic feature of this state from a viewpoint of structural fluctuation.

      • Preferential Binding to Elk-1 by SLE-Associated <i>IL10</i> Risk Allele Upregulates <i>IL10</i> Expression

        Sakurai, Daisuke,Zhao, Jian,Deng, Yun,Kelly, Jennifer A.,Brown, Elizabeth E.,Harley, John B.,Bae, Sang-Cheol,Alarcό,n-Riquelme, Marta E.,Edberg, Jeffrey C.,Kimberly, Robert P.,Ramsey-Goldman, Ros Public Library of Science 2013 PLoS genetics Vol.9 No.10

<▼1><P>Immunoregulatory cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10) is elevated in sera from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) correlating with disease activity. The established association of <I>IL10</I> with SLE and other autoimmune diseases led us to fine map causal variant(s) and to explore underlying mechanisms. We assessed 19 tag SNPs, covering the <I>IL10</I> gene cluster including <I>IL19</I>, <I>IL20</I> and <I>IL24</I>, for association with SLE in 15,533 case and control subjects from four ancestries. The previously reported <I>IL10</I> variant, rs3024505 located at 1 kb downstream of <I>IL10</I>, exhibited the strongest association signal and was confirmed for association with SLE in European American (EA) (<I>P</I> = 2.7×10−8, OR = 1.30), but not in non-EA ancestries. SNP imputation conducted in EA dataset identified three additional SLE-associated SNPs tagged by rs3024505 (rs3122605, rs3024493 and rs3024495 located at 9.2 kb upstream, intron 3 and 4 of <I>IL10</I>, respectively), and SLE-risk alleles of these SNPs were dose-dependently associated with elevated levels of <I>IL10</I> mRNA in PBMCs and circulating IL-10 protein in SLE patients and controls. Using nuclear extracts of peripheral blood cells from SLE patients for electrophoretic mobility shift assays, we identified specific binding of transcription factor Elk-1 to oligodeoxynucleotides containing the risk (G) allele of rs3122605, suggesting rs3122605 as the most likely causal variant regulating <I>IL10</I> expression. Elk-1 is known to be activated by phosphorylation and nuclear localization to induce transcription. Of interest, phosphorylated Elk-1 (p-Elk-1) detected only in nuclear extracts of SLE PBMCs appeared to increase with disease activity. Co-expression levels of p-Elk-1 and IL-10 were elevated in SLE T, B cells and monocytes, associated with increased disease activity in SLE B cells, and were best downregulated by ERK inhibitor. Taken together, our data suggest that preferential binding of activated Elk-1 to the <I>IL10</I> rs3122605-G allele upregulates <I>IL10</I> expression and confers increased risk for SLE in European Americans.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Author Summary</B></P><P>Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a debilitating autoimmune disease characterized by the production of pathogenic autoantibodies, has a strong genetic basis. Variants of the <I>IL10</I> gene, which encodes cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10) with known function of promoting B cell hyperactivity and autoantibody production, are associated with SLE and other autoimmune diseases, and serum IL-10 levels are elevated in SLE patients correlating with increased disease activity. In this study, to discover SLE-predisposing causal variant(s), we assessed variants within the genomic region containing <I>IL10</I> and its gene family member <I>IL19</I>, <I>IL20</I> and <I>IL24</I> for association with SLE in case and control subjects from diverse ancestries. We identified SLE-associated SNP rs3122605 located at 9.2 kb upstream of <I>IL10</I> as the most likely causal variant in subjects of European ancestry. The SLE-risk allele of rs3122605 was dose-dependently associated with elevated <I>IL10</I> expression at both mRNA and protein levels in peripheral blood samples from SLE patients and controls, which could be explained, at least in part, by its preferential binding to Elk-1, a transcription factor activated in B cells during active disease of SLE patients. Elk-1-mediated IL-10 overexpression could be downregulated by inhibiting activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for SLE.</P></▼2>

        Sakurai Kiyoshi,Yoshifumi Urano,Tsugito Yamashita 한국표면공학회 2010 한국표면공학회 학술발표회 초록집 Vol.2010 No.11

Gold plating films are used extensively as electronics industry materials, because it is such as high corrosion resistance and conductivity. However, gold plating thin films are probably porous layer. Therefore, nickel plating films under gold plating films are corroded by local cell. In this paper, the inhibitor-effect is investigated by electrochemical technique and structural analysis of surface and interface.
