Decursin and decursinol angelate: molecular mechanism and therapeutic potential in inflammatory diseases

        Shehzad, Adeeb,Parveen, Sajida,Qureshi, Munibah,Subhan, Fazli,Lee, Young Sup Springer-Verlag 2018 Inflammation research Vol.67 No.3

<P>Epidemiological studies have shown that inflammation plays a critical role in the development and progression of various chronic diseases, including cancers, neurological diseases, hepatic fibrosis, diabetic retinopathy, and vascular diseases. Decursin and decursinol angelate (DA) are pyranocoumarin compounds obtained from the roots of Angelica gigas. Several studies have described the anti-inflammatory effects of decursin and DA. Decursin and DA have shown potential anti-inflammatory activity by modulating growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor, transcription factors such as signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells, cellular enzymes including matrix metalloproteinases cyclooxygenase, and protein kinases such as extracellular receptor kinase, phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase, and protein kinase C. These compounds have the ability to induce apoptosis by activating pro-apoptotic proteins and the caspase cascade, and reduced the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins such as B-cell lymphoma 2 and B-cell lymphoma-extra-large. Interaction with multiple molecular targets and cytotoxic effects, these two compounds are favorable candidates for treating various chronic inflammatory diseases such as cancers (prostate, breast, leukemia, cervical, and myeloma), rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic retinopathy, hepatic fibrosis, osteoclastogenesis, allergy, and Alzheimer's disease. We have summarized the preliminary studies regarding the biological effects of decursin and DA. In this review, we will also highlight the functions of coumarin compounds that can be translated to a clinical practice for the treatment and prevention of various inflammatory ailments.</P>

      • Integrated Power Optimization with Battery Friendly Algorithm in Wireless Capsule Endoscopy

Mehmood, Tariq,Naeem, Nadeem,Parveen, Sajida International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.11

The recently continuous enhancement and development in the biomedical side for the betterment of human life. The Wireless Body Area Networks is a significant tool for the current researcher to design and transfer data with greater data rates among the sensors and sensor nodes for biomedical applications. The core area for research in WBANs is power efficiency, battery-driven devices for health and medical, the Charging limitation is a major and serious problem for the WBANs.this research work is proposed to find out the optimal solution for battery-friendly technology. In this research we have addressed the solution to increasing the battery lifetime with variable data transmission rates from medical equipment as Wireless Endoscopy Capsules, this device will analyze a patient's inner body gastrointestinal tract by capturing images and visualization at the workstation. The second major issue is that the Wireless Endoscopy Capsule based systems are currently not used for clinical applications due to their low data rate as well as low resolution and limited battery lifetime, in case of these devices are more enhanced in these cases it will be the best solution for the medical applications. The main objective of this research is to power optimization by reducing the power consumption of the battery in the Wireless Endoscopy Capsule to make it battery-friendly. To overcome the problem we have proposed the algorithm for "Battery Friendly Algorithm" and we have compared the different frame rates of buffer sizes for Transmissions. The proposed Battery Friendly Algorithm is to send the images on average frame rate instead of transmitting the images on maximum or minimum frame rates. The proposed algorithm extends the battery lifetime in comparison with the previous baseline proposed algorithm as well as increased the battery lifetime of the capsule.

Variation of wake patterns and force coefficients of the flow past square bodies aligned inline

Raheela Manzoor,Shams-Ul-Islam,Waqas Sarwar Abbasi,Sajida Parveen 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.4

In this numerical study, the variation of wake patterns and force coefficients of the flow past four square bodies aligned inline are investigated. A two-dimensional numerical code is developed using the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) for this study. The code is first validated for the flow past a single and two tandem square cylinders. The results are compared to those available in literature and found to be in good agreement. After validation the calculations are further performed to investigate the effect of gap spacing (g) for the flow past four inline square cylinders at two different Reynolds numbers (Re) 100 and 200. The gap spacing is chosen in the range 0.25 ≤ g ≤ 7. Six different flow patterns: Single slender body, alternate reattachment, quasi steady reattachment, intermittent shedding, chaotic flow and periodic flow are found in this study with successive increment in spacing. It is found that some flow patterns existing at Re = 100 do not exist at Re = 200. The generated vortices at Re = 200 are much stronger as compared to those at Re = 100. The spacing value g = 3 is found to be critical at Re = 100 while at Re = 200 the spacing value g = 2 is critical due to abrupt changes in flow characteristics. At some spacing values the downstream cylinders have higher values of average drag coefficients as compared to upstream ones. In general the upstream cylinder (c1) have higher drag forces at Re = 200 than at Re = 100. The root mean square values of lift coefficient are found to be greater than the corresponding root mean square values of drag coefficient.

      • Exploring Pseudonymous based Schemes for Safegaurding Location Privacy in Vehicular Adhoc Network (VANET)

Arslan Akhtar Joyo,Fizza Abbas Alvi,Rafia Naz Memon,Irfana Memon,Sajida Parveen International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2023 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.23 No.2

Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is considered to be a subclass of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET). It has some challenges and issues of privacy which require to be solved before practical implementation of the system i.e., location preservation privacy. Many schemes have been proposed. The most prominent is pseudonym change based location preservation scheme. Safety message can be compromised when it sends via a wireless medium, consequently, an adversary can eavesdrop the communication to analyze and track targeted vehicle. The issue can be counter by use of pseudo identity instead of real and their change while communication proves to be a sufficient solution for such problems. In this context, a large amount of literature on pseudonym change strategies has been proposed to solve such problems in VANET. In this paper, we have given details on strategies proposed last two decades on pseudonym change based location preservation along with issues that they focus to resolve and try to give full understanding to readers.

Determination of Bergenin in Different Parts of Bergenia ciliata using a Validated RP-HPLC Method

        Ejaz Ali,Khalid Hussain,Nadeem Irfan Bukhari,Najma Arshad,Amjad Hussain,Nasir Abbas,Sohail Arshad,Sajida Parveen,Naureen Shehzadi,Shaista Qamar,Abida Qamar 한국생약학회 2021 Natural Product Sciences Vol.27 No.1

Bergenia ciliata (Family: Saxifragaceae) is a folklore remedy for the treatment of various ailments in Asian countries. Bergenin (1) has been isolated as an active constituent in many studies, however, the amount of bergenin has not been determined in all parts of the plant. A simple RP-HPLC method was developed to determine the amount of bergenin in methanol extracts of leaves, rhizomes and roots of the plant. Separation was achieved on an Agilent Eclipse XDB-C18 column maintained at 25 oC using isocratic solvent system (water: methanol: acetic acid; 62.5:37:0.5 v/v/v) adjusted at pH 2 0 at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. and detected at 275 nm. Correlation coefficient (0.9952) showed linearity of concentration (5-200 μg/mL) and response. The values of LOD (0.00947 μg/mL) and LOQ (0.02869 μg/mL) indicated that method was sensitive. The recovery of bergenin was 99.99-100% indicating accuracy of method. The methanol extract of rhizomes contained higher amount of bergenin (19.4%) than roots (9.2%) and leaves (6.9%). It is concluded that methanol extract of rhizomes is a better source of bergenin than other parts of the plant. The findings are useful for standardization of bergenin containing extracts and herbal preparations.
